Lakshay Sheoran, Neeru Dhanda finish on top in second Shotgun National Trials
New Delhi [India], May 27 (ANI): Lakshay Sheoran and Neeru Dhanda finished on top in the men's and women's category respectively in the trap finals of the Second Shotgun National Trails, held at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.
Lakshay, who qualified for the finals with a score of 120 in qualification, shot 43 in the finals, a two shot difference over Jaswinder Singh who finished second with a score of 41. In the Women's finals, Nationals Games gold medalist Neeru edged Aashima Ahlawat 40-39 to secure the top spot. Olympian Rajeshwari Kumari secured third place with a score of 31 while Bhowneesh Mendiratta finished third in the men's category with a score of 33, a release said.
Earlier, in the qualification round, Jungsher S. Virk shot 119 to qualify for the finals behind Lakshay. National Champion Shardul Vihan, Jaswinder Singh, Bhowneesh and Rayyan Rizvi completed the top six with scores of 118, 117, 116 and 116 respectively. Olympians Kynan Chenai (114) and Prithviraj Tondaiman (112) and World Cup finals Silver medalist Vivaan Kapoor (113) failed to reach the finals.
In the women's category, Neeru topped the qualification also with a score of 115 followed by Preeti Rajak with 114, Aashima Ahlawat with 113, Rajeshwari Kumari with 110, Pragati Dubey with 109 and Addya Katyal finished in the top six places.
A separate selection trial was not conducted for junior athletes; as a result, Bakhtyaruddin Malek who shot 114 and Addya Katyal with 108 were placed first in the junior men's and women's category respectively. Tarvez Singh Sandhu who shot 111 and Udhav Singh Rathore with 110 were placed second and third while Ananya Yaduvanshi with 101 and Tanisska Senthilkumar with 98 took the second and third sports in the junior women's, the release said.
The Selection Committee will consider the scores from the recently concluded ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, for junior athletes who participated in that event, as Selection Trials 2 coincided with it. Scores of such shooters will not be marked as 'zero.'(ANI)

Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur make a comeback for Sri Lanka ODI series
Dhaka, Jun 23 (UNI) A pair of key Bangladesh players return from injury to take on Sri Lanka, while an experienced batter is also included. A host of key players have been named as Bangladesh announced a strong squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman have recovered from injury and have been included in the 16-member playing group, while T20I skipper Litton Das wins a recall after he missed out on the ICC Champions Trophy tournament at the start of the year. Shamim Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Hasan Mahmud and Mohammad Naim are also included in the squad, with recently retired duo Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim among the players to drop out of the squad that went winless at the Champions Trophy. Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain said it was important for Das to be given the chance to earn his place back in the ODI side. "Litton Das was in a bad patch but time is the best healer. Former France midfielder Paul Pogba, who wants to resume his career after a doping ban, said on French television on Sunday he is 'talking' with a club, which sources close to him said was Monaco. The 32-year-old also said he had re-established contact with his brother Mathias, sentenced to a year in prison last December for his involvement in a plot to extort 13 million euros (USD 15 million) from the 2018 World Cup winner. Pogba, who played for Manchester United and Juventus, is hoping to put three chaotic years behind him. Pogba suffered through repeated injuries and patchy form that led to his departure from United in 2022. He returned for a second stint at Juventus, where his problems continued. He failed a drug test after a game in Italy in August 2023 and was handed a four-year doping ban, which was reduced 18 months on appeal. It ended in March. 'It was very, very hard,' he said. He said he was 'talking' to a club, which multiple sources said was Ligue 1 Monaco. Pogba said he was determined 'to get back on the pitch, mentally ready, physically ready, it's just a matter of time'. The extortion case involving six men linked to Paul Pogba shocked France because the perpetrators included three childhood friends and his own brother. The five other defendants were found guilty of extortion, kidnapping and detention, as well as participation in a criminal association, and sentenced to up to eight years in prison. All six were also fined. Paul Pogba said he was talking to Mathias who is being allowed to serve his sentence wearing an electronic bracelet rather than behind bars. 'We are in contact. We've spoken, among ourselves, with the family,' Paul Pogba said. 'It's a blood bond. There was a scar, of course. We're moving forward. Only time can give us answers.' 'All we want is to always be united as a family. That's the most important thing. It's hard. Of course it's very hard, I'm not going to lie. I was hurt. It's not the same as before, but we're in touch,' he added. Paul Pogba was held at gunpoint in 2022 by two hooded men who demanded money. He said on Sunday that he was initially willing to pay but 'afterwards, I cracked,' he said, deciding 'to speak out, even if it meant dying' and refusing 'to throw away my money like that'. He said the ban and the court case had changed him 'I learned a lot during this period,' Pogba said. 'I did a lot of cleaning around myself too. I am also much closer to my family, my children.'
