Mine! Mine! Mine! Children's Books About Greed
I am old enough to remember a time when we didn't need books to tell us that greed and lying are bad, when it was assumed children would be taught these lessons by their parents.
Sadly, times have changed. Now it seems necessary to educate children — and their parents — on these subjects.
Lucky for us we have two excellent new books to help us do it.
The Caldecott medalist Chris Raschka's lightly illustrated novel PEACHALOO IN BLOOM (Neal Porter/Holiday House, 304 pp., $18.99, ages 10 and up) follows a girl named Peachaloo at the magical moment in childhood when she gains both the power to understand 'what people really mean, not just what they're saying,' and a 'blooming sense of good and evil' — abilities that will soon be sorely needed in her little town in central Pennsylvania's Appalachian Mountains.
Raschka's prose is charming, written in a rural deadpan reminiscent of Kate DiCamillo, and the accompanying drawings are comical and oddball, like many of the novel's eccentric characters. Occasionally Raschka indulges in playing with the world he's created rather than pushing the story along, but taking joy in one's creation is a small sin, and smaller still when the creation is as worthy as the kooky town of Fourwords (whose name refers to the four words carved into the door frames of its oldest buildings: Hope, Faith, Charity and Patience).

Jalen Hurts to release children's book "Better Than a Touchdown" in March 2026
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is a man of many titles. Super Bowl champion. Super Bowl LIX MVP. Philadelphia Citizen of the Year. One of TIME's 100 Most Influential People. Now, a published author. Hurts announced Monday the release of his first children's book, "Better Than a Touchdown," with a March 10, 2026, release date. The book is available for preorder from Penguin Random House. In a video posted on Instagram, Hurts said publishing a children's book has always been a dream of his. "I'm very excited to share this moment with you guys. It's always been a dream of mine to have my own children's book, and I'm blessed to say that dream has become a reality with 'Better than a Touchdown,'" Hurts said. "It's a lot of hard work, a lot of love put into this book. It's very heartfelt because without the lessons learned, I wouldn't be here where I am today. So I'm excited to extend those lessons to the next generation, and hopefully it helps lift them just as the many lessons I learned did the same for me." "Better Than a Touchdown" tells the story of Jalen and his friends, who are excited to begin the school year and try out for the football team, only to discover that the program has been cut. Jalen doesn't get discouraged and turns to the community to help save the program. "'Better than a Touchdown' is a love letter to the power of community, being there for one another, and how a piece of good advice can change the course of a day," the book's description reads on Penguin Random House. "Told with Jalen's signature wisdom and gorgeous art by Nneka Myers, Better than a Touchdown carries a message we can all learn from: that by working together, there's nothing we can't accomplish." Hurts joins Eagles legends Brian Westbrook ("The Mouse Who Played Football") and Brandon Graham ("BG's ABCs: Tackling Football and Life") to publish children's books.

Pennsylvania strangers meet during viral photoshoot leading to real life connection
A Levittown photographer captured the moment two complete strangers met for the first time. Now, the images have gone viral as hundreds of thousands of people online are following the undeniable connection seen on camera. "I get two strangers together and we have fun, take a photo shoot, and apparently the internet really liked it," Amanda Johnson said. "They had no idea who they were and I got them together and their chemistry just kind of took off." Johnson has been a photographer since 2017 and she's done a handful of what she calls "stranger sessions." People sign up for the sessions and she tries to pair up strangers with similar interests before having them meet up for a photoshoot. Her most recent "stranger session" at the Red Rhino Car Wash in Fairless Hills garnered quite a bit of attention online after the photos showed Teresa Dittes and Dylan Waskiewicz's instant connection. Amanda Johnson "I turn around and we see each other and I was like, 'Oh, yeah. He's cute,'" Dittes said. "First time ever doing a stranger photoshoot," Waskiewicz said. "I've seen Amanda's previous one and I thought it was kind of cool. So, I gave it a shot." The photo session documented the first time they saw each other, from playful scenes at the car wash to more intimate moments, leading people online to find it hard to believe they had just met. "Everyone is just like, 'Oh my gosh, are they together? Are they together, are they together? Everyone wants to know," Johnson said. It's a real-life connection that sparked from the unknown and captivated the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people. "We went out on a date on Friday night," Dittes said. "We went out to dinner, and it went well because clearly, we're here. Online dating is awful. This was definitely a very interesting way to meet someone, but it was also a fun experience as well." Amanda Johnson "It was different and I'm all about different experiences, getting out there, putting yourself out there and just enjoying life really," Waskiewicz said. Halsey Alerts & Saves Crew From Getting Burned During Concert
Halsey recently could have faced a big stage mishap, but the 'Walls Could Talk' singer saved the day with their quick actions. The artist is currently on the 'For My Last Trick' tour. The incident took place on June 14 during their Pittsburgh concert as part of the tour. While performing their song 'Without Me' on stage, the singer noticed a crew member could be in danger of burning by coming close to the pyrotechnics display. The artist didn't waste any time and stepped in to save the crew person. A new TikTok video from Halsey's recent concert in Pittsburgh has gone viral on the internet. The concert was part of the ongoing 'For My Last Trick' tour. The video captured the singer saving a videographer from a potentially serious injury on stage. During their performance on the song 'Without Me', a crew member caught the artist's attention. The videographer was capturing moments of Halsey's performance. However, what the person didn't realize was that they were standing close to the pyrotechnics display, which is a very common part of concerts. The singer was singing the line 'I had to go and find out from them' when they noticed the videographer's position on the stage. Halsey immediately made waving gestures with their hands and also asked the crew person to 'get out of the way!' However, the videographer failed to understand what Halsey was trying to convey. As soon as the singer realized what was happening, they rushed towards the crew person to save them. The artist could be heard shouting, 'No, there-there's pyro coming! Move.' After that, the videographer moved away from the spot right before the pyrotechnics display began on the stage. Thus, the singer won fans' hearts by saving the crew member from a possible accident.
