Mumbai:
Maharashtra Minister Aditi Tatkare has said that more than 2,200 beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana were found to be government employees during scrutiny.
In a post on X on Friday, Ms Tatkare said verification of beneficiaries will be a regular process.
'After scrutinising nearly 2 lakh applications, 2,289 government employees were found to be the beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana. After realising this, such beneficiaries are not being given the benefit of the scheme,' the Women and Child Development Minister said.

Ms Tatkare said the government is committed to ensuring that only eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of the Ladki Bahin Yojana and will continue to scrutinise applications for this.
Ahead of the November 2024 Maharashtra assembly polls, the Mahayuti government in the state launched the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana in August last year, under which eligible women in the age group of 21-65 years are entitled to a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500. Government employees are, however, not eligible for the scheme.
Mahayuti leaders have attributed the resounding success of the ruling alliance in the assembly polls to the Ladki Bahin scheme, but have also admitted that it has put severe strain on the state exchequer.

Karnataka CM inaugurates development works worth 936 crore in Raichur
Raichur (Karnataka) [India], June 23 (ANI): Development works worth Rs 936 crore were inaugurated in Raichur, Karnataka, on Monday, reaffirming the Congress Government's commitment to delivering on its promises, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, as per an official statement from the Karnataka Chief Minister's Office (CMO). He was speaking after inaugurating the Tribal Cultural Festival organised by the Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department and the District Administration, unveiling the nameplate of Adikavi Maharshi Valmiki University, and participating in the 371st Dashamanotsav celebrations. 'Our government is committed to development. We had promised 560 guarantees during this election. Already, 235 of these have been fulfilled, and the remaining will be completed in the next three years,' the Chief Minister said. He criticised the previous BJP government, accusing it of neglecting development and now resorting to false propaganda out of frustration over Congress' achievements. 'From 2013 to 2018, our previous government fulfilled all the promises made and even 30 more that were not part of the manifesto,' he recalled. Highlighting the 'steep price rise' under the Modi-led government, the CM pointed out how the prices of gold, silver, rice, pulses, cooking oil, LPG, petrol, diesel, and fertilisers have risen sharply, burdening ordinary citizens. 'Despite being in power at the Centre, the BJP is lying shamelessly to the people,' he charged. Emphasising the historical importance of Article 371J for Kalyana Karnataka's progress, CM Siddaramaiah reminded that it was the result of the relentless efforts of Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Dharam Singh, supported by the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government. 'The BJP opposed this historic step. When Vajpayee was Prime Minister, Advani said that 371J was not possible,' he said. Since coming to power, the Congress government has allocated Rs 13,500 crore for Kalyana Karnataka's development, with a commitment to allocate more funds going forward. 'Due to 371J, our youth are now becoming engineers, doctors, IAS, IPS, ACs, and DCs. This is our achievement,' he said. Thanking the people of Kalyana Karnataka for electing Congress in all five Lok Sabha seats from the region, he said, 'The blessings of the people of Raichur district are always upon us. Kalyana Karnataka will remain a stronghold of Congress.' Lashing out at the BJP for 'betraying' Karnataka, he said, 'Even though they are in power at the Centre, BJP leaders have failed to correct the injustice done to Karnataka. No BJP or MP has raised their voice to protect the state's interests. This is their true character.' 'I will be visiting Delhi today to demand that the injustice done to Karnataka by the 15th Finance Commission be corrected at least in the 16th Finance Commission. I will be meeting the Union Finance Minister regarding this,' the Chief Minister announced. The CM predicted that Raichur MLA Raja Venkatappa Nayak Daddal has a bright future and will secure victory in the 2028 elections. (ANI)

DRDO offers 28 indigenous weapon systems to military for emergency procurement
New Delhi [India], June 23 (ANI): The Defence Research and Development Organisation has offered 28 of its designed and developed weapon systems to the three services for emergency procurement. This comes at a time when the indigenous weapons performed well during India's military retaliation, Operation Sindoor, against the Pahalgam terror attack. The Defence Forces have been allowed to buy new weapons and replenish the stocks of existing weapons by the Centre under the emergency procurement powers. Under these powers, they can buy hardware up to Rs 300 crore for a single product. 'The premier defence research agency has submitted the list to the defence ministry and includes rockets, air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, laser-guided bombs, torpedoes, shoulder-fired air defence and anti-tank missiles, helicopter-launched and ground-launched Nag missiles, Rudram anti-radiation missiles, Naval anti-ship missiles and grenades,' defence officials told ANI. 'The long list of weapon systems provided by the DRDO also lists the vendors who produce them and the number that the defence forces can procure in the next six months to one year,' the sources said. The DRDO has also listed the names of the Production agencies for its various products from which the forces can source these items. For example, the Pinaka rockets can be acquired from Solar Defence and Aerodpace Limited, while Bharat Dynamics Limited is the source for multiple pieces of equipment in the list. The forces have also been offered the Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Very Short-Range Air Defence System, Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons, long-range Glide Bomb, and Advanced Light-Weight Torpedo, along with ammunition for the 155 mm artillery guns. The forces have been given the option to order from a list of 28 different pieces of equipment, including 14 for the Indian Army, 8 for the Indian Navy, and 6 for the Indian Air Force. The Indian Air Force is also acquiring the SAAW smart ammunition as part of a proposal being considered by the Defence Ministry, which is likely to come up for discussion soon. The DRDO has been the main developer of weapons in the Indian system, and its BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, MRSAM air-edge fence missile systems, and Akash air-edge fence systems have performed very well in defeating Pakistani attacks during Op Sindoor. The DRDO contribution or the offer of weapon systems readily available for the forces to use within one year is much higher than what was offered during the conflict with China, when not many systems were ready to be offered to the forces. Cong criticises Union govt for price hike of fertilisers
Shivamogga: Congress MLA Gopal Krishna Belur on Monday expressed outrage over the Union govt for increasing the prices of fertilisers, ranging from Rs 160 to Rs 180 per bag. He questioned the BJP's intentions, citing their protests against the milk price hike in Karnataka, while remaining silent when the price of fertilisers were increased. Speaking to reporters in Shivamogga, he said, "Farmers are struggling to cultivate paddy in the state due to the rapid price hike of fertilisers. He questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi truly supports the agricultural community. Meanwhile, the Youth Congress, Shivamogga unit, strongly condemned the BJP govt's decision to increase chemical and fertiliser prices, which they believe will further burden farmers. They staged a protest in Shivamogga and alleged that the Union govt is giving farmers Rs 6,000 per year as Kisan Samman but collecting double that amount through increased prices of fertilisers and seeds. With farmers already struggling due to uncertain rainfall and crop damage, the price hike will exacerbate their distress. The Youth Congress urged the President to intervene and direct the Union govt to reduce fertiliser prices. If not, they threatened to take the protest to the streets. The memorandum was submitted through the joint director of agriculture in Shivamogga on Monday morning.
