Family of Pahalgam terror attack victim from Odisha denounce crowdfunding drive
The family members of Prashant Satpathy, a victim of the Pahalgam terror attack from Odisha, on Monday strongly denounced the crowdfunding campaign allegedly being carried out in the name of helping his wife and son.
The victim's family has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime and Economic Offence police station in Balasore, stating that some people have started a fake fundraising campaign on social media platforms and are collecting money in the name of helping them.
"We have not given any consent to anyone for crowdfunding. We don't need money from the public, but seek their good wishes and blessings for my departed husband. We don't know the intention behind crowdfunding, but I appeal to all to stop the drive," Satpathy's wife Priya Darshani Achariya told reporters.
Prashant (41), an employee of CIPET, Balasore, was one of the 26 people killed in the Pahalgam attack on April 22.
Claiming that she learnt about crowdfunding from social media on Saturday, Priya said, "Maybe those raising funds have good intentions, but they should have taken our consent. If they have collected some money, let them donate it to some charitable organisations and trusts. We strongly believe the government will take care of us."
Prashant's younger brother Jayant said the fundraising has hurt the entire family. "God will punish the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack," he said, adding that the family has lodged an FIR with the Balasore Cyber police station in this regard (crowdfunding).
Jayant also mentioned that they had reached out to the woman whose phone number was listed in the fundraising appeals on social media.
"She apologised for not taking our consent before starting the fundraiser," he said.
Meanwhile, a senior officer said the cyber police station has begun an investigation and contacted the person(s) involved in the fundraiser.
Police sources said at least five to six persons have transferred about ₹18,000 to the accused person's account.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced ₹20 lakh ex gratia, a job for his wife and full support for the education and future needs of their 9-year-old son.

Security bolstered at key Amarnath Yatra points
New Delhi Security forces, along with the Jammu and Kashmir police, have already sealed and secured the base camps, Yatri Niwas, and the starting points of the Amarnath Yatra, officials said, adding that due to the heightened alert following the Pahalgam attack, the locations were secured almost three weeks before the start of the Yatra, unlike previous years when the camps and locations were sealed only a week in advance. The Yatra from July 3 to August 9 is being held amid a high alert following Operation Sindoor and heightened security preparations in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack two months ago. The duration of the Yatra this year is shorter, 38 days in comparison to last year's 52. In a bid to bolster security, the Union home ministry has sanctioned an additional 581 companies of paramilitary forces for the pilgrimage, which is the highest to date. Last year, the number was around 510. The 581 companies include all the central armed police forces. 'On Wednesday, union home secretary Govind Mohan chaired a meeting with senior officers from all forces in Srinagar. All top officials of the army, paramilitary forces, J&K police, and administration were present in the meeting. It was decided that paramilitary forces and police will remain on guard even at night,' one official, who asked not to be named, said. During the weekend, CRPF's top officials, including DG GP Singh were in Jammu and Kashmir to review the arrangements. The CRPF is the nodal force for all paramilitary forces involved in the security arrangements. A CRPF statement said that a high-level meeting was held in Srinagar by the CRPF, after which its top officials visited the cave, base camp, and other strategic locations along the pilgrimage route. Additionally, forces have also stepped up surveillance and secured the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu from where the pilgrims will start their journey to Kashmir via the National Highway. Last week, top Jammu and Kashmir police officials, including police chief Nalin Prabhat also visited the base camp, from where the first batch of pilgrims will move towards Kashmir on July 2. The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board on June 17 announced that vide a government order, all routes of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra—including both the Pahalgam and Baltal axes— have been declared as a 'No Flying Zone' from July 1 to August 10, 2025, and chopper services would not be available for pilgrims.

Any terrorist attack in J-K will be considered as act of war: Manoj Sinha warns Pakistan
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 16 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday asserted that any terrorist attack in the state will now be treated as an act of war,' which is a tougher approach towards cross-border terrorism. Manoj Sinha was speaking during the passing-out parade of the 17th Batch of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) and the 26th Batch of Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) at the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) in Udhampur. A total of 50 probationary DySPs and 1,112 probationary PSIs graduated, marking the first batch to complete training under India's newly implemented criminal laws. The oath-taking ceremony was witnessed by J&K Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Additional DGP (Director SKPA) Garib Dass. Addressing the new inductees, LG Sinha showed faith that they could serve the country with commitment. 'I am sure these courageous officers will maintain the honour of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and serve Maa Bharati with pride,' he stated. Stressing their responsibility, he asked them to uphold law and order, safeguard people, and keep their guard up against danger. Tapping the spiritual teachings for inspiration, Sinha urged the officers to draw strength from faith in the face of adversity. Sinha complimented the recruits on their strenuous training, which consisted of Army and other security forces' training along with specialised modules on the fresh criminal laws. 'The modus operandi of criminals has shifted with technology, and J&K Police need to change quickly,' he added. In spite of these challenges, he praised the force for its constant battle against terrorism, recognising the highest sacrifices offered by personnel in the line of duty. Reaffirming the zero-tolerance policy of the government, Sinha said that eradicating terrorism is the priority. Taking cue from recent operations - the April 22 Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor - he said that India has sent a strong message to Pakistan and its sponsored terrorists.'We have given them a lesson, he added. LG asserted that any next terrorist strike in J&K would be considered an 'act of war,' which would mean a bolder military and strategic intervention. This is what comes with India's increasingly complex approach towards cross-border terrorism, and is a possible change in counter-terrorism policy. The passing-out parade signifies an important milestone in making J&K's police force stronger and better equipped with contemporary combat training, legal acumen, and counter-terror methodologies to meet conventional and new-age challenges.
