Trump administration seeing record-low border encounters: Homan

President Trump's border czar Tom Homan said Tuesday the administration saw a historic number of low encounters at the border.
'In the last 24 hours the Border Patrol encountered a total of 95 illegal aliens across the entire southern border. That is the lowest number EVER recorded,' Homan wrote in a statement on X.
He said none of the immigrants were released after being apprehended while lauding the Trump administration for working to create the 'most secure border' in the nation's history.
'To continue this great work and make it more permanent, we need the Big Beautiful Bill passed so we can finish the job, to include the biggest deportation operation the American people voted for,' Homan wrote on Tuesday.
'God bless the men and women of CBP and ICE. President Trump is the Game Changer,' he added.
The House-approved spending package is expected to add $4 trillion to the national debt, but will also provide the border with additional manpower from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Currently, the bill is awaiting a final vote in the Senate but remains battle-tested with concerns from Republican and Democratic lawmakers regarding Medicaid work requirements outlined in the legislation.

ROME -- ROME (AP) — Pope Leo XIV warned Friday that artificial intelligence could negatively impact the intellectual, neurological and spiritual development of young people as he pressed one of the priorities of his young pontificate. History's first American pope sent a message to a conference of AI and ethics, part of which was taking place in the Vatican in a sign of the Holy See's concern for the new technologies and what they mean for humanity. In the message, Leo said any further development of AI must be evaluated according to the 'superior ethical criterion' of the need to safeguard the dignity of each human being while respecting the diversity of the world's population. He warned specifically that new generations are most at risk given they have never had such quick access to information. 'All of us, I am sure, are concerned for children and young people, and the possible consequences of the use of AI on their intellectual and neurological development,' he said in the message. 'Society's well-being depends upon their being given the ability to develop their God-given gifts and capabilities,' and not allow them to confuse mere access to data with intelligence. 'In the end, authentic wisdom has more to do with recognizing the true meaning of life, than with the availability of data,' he said. Leo, who was elected in May after the death of Pope Francis, has identified AI as one of the most critical matters facing humanity, saying it poses challenges to defending human dignity, justice and labor. He has explained his concern for AI by invoking his namesake, Pope Leo XIII. Brad Lander returning to observe immigration court after ICE arrest

New York City Comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander is expected to return to observe federal immigration court Friday, just days after his dramatic arrest. Lander's schedule says he will be back at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan, where he was arrested earlier this week, to observe the court proceedings. He and his wife said they were escorting a man named Edgardo from the courtroom after his case was dismissed, which they said then left him with no status in the U.S., meaning he could be subject to U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement detention and deportation. Video showed masked agents try to take Edgardo into custody, as Lander asked to see their judicial warrant. Lander was then pinned against a wall and placed into handcuffs. The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that he was arrested for "assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer," but he was released hours later and the charges were dropped. "The rule of law is not fine" "I will be fine, but Edgardo is not going to be fine, and the rule of law is not fine, and our constitutional democracy is not fine," Lander said to a crowd of supporters after he was released. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul went to immigration court to call for his release, as did several of his fellow mayoral candidates, including former Gov. I knew I needed to come down here immediately [to] check on [his] whereabouts and do what I could to intervene." The next day, two members of New York's congressional delegation paid a visit to 26 Federal Plaza and were able to observe immigration court but said they were denied access to an ICE field office in the building. CBS News New York reached out to DHS for more information about why Lander was arrested and why the congressmen were turned away, but we have not heard back. The comptroller is among 11 Democratic candidates running in a crowded primary election. Early voting wraps up this weekend, ahead of Election Day on Tuesday.
