Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurates two Automated Driving Test Tracks by Maruti Suzuki
In a significant move to enhance road safety in Uttarakhand, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Haridwar and Rishikesh set up by Maruti Suzuki under its CSR initiative.
ADTTs are equipped with high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems to conduct driving license evaluations without human intervention. This technology ensures a more comprehensive, efficient, and transparent testing process for driving license seekers. Evaluation at ADTTs is done in line with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR).
Both these new ADTTs will cater to driving license testing for Light Motor Vehicle (LMV), and 2- wheelers. In addition to automation of these two ADTTs, Maruti Suzuki operates an ADTT in Dehradun, since 2019. This facility won accolades from the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for Excellence and Good Governance in 2019-2020.
Dedicating the facility to the state, Brijesh Kumar Sant (IAS), Secretary Transport, Uttarakhand Government, said, 'We are committed to making Uttarakhand's roads safer, and Maruti Suzuki's ADTTs are an important enabler in this direction. Our association with Maruti Suzuki goes back to 2009, when the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research was established in Dehradun. With the comprehensive evaluation at ADTTs, we can ensure that only skilled drivers get a driving license. Another state-run road safety initiative where we work with Maruti Suzuki is refresher training for commercial drivers before Char Dham yatra (holy pilgrimage). I also compliment the Company for steering this training program, which helps prepare drivers for yatra route.'

Under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand is rapidly progressing. One of the key growth drivers for the state is tourism. Efficient and skilled drivers are needed to boost tourism and contribute to safer roads. Our Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) can play a vital role to achieve this goal by ensuring that only skilled and competent drivers receive a license through a 100% computerized, transparent, and efficient testing process.'
He added, 'Every year, just before the onset of Char Dham yatra (holy pilgrimage), we undertake a refresher training for commercial drivers in Uttarakhand. This prepares the drivers for hilly terrains on yatra route. This training is one of the qualifiers for mandatory Green Card required for all commercial drivers during the yatra. This year, we plan to cover about 11,000 drivers in the refresher driving training at IDTRs.'

Deadline extended again: Motorists yet to install HSRP
Nagpur: Despite repeated extensions and appeals, a significant number of vehicle owners in Maharashtra — particularly in Nagpur — are yet to replace their old registration plates with High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), mandated for all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. HSRP is a tamper-proof number plate with a unique identification code and non-removable snap locks aimed at curbing vehicle theft and improving traceability. The installation is mandatory under Central Motor Vehicle Rules. In a fresh circular issued by Maharashtra transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, the govt has once again extended the deadline for HSRP installation to August 15, 2025, citing poor public response and growing demand from citizens for more time. The previous deadline was June 30, 2025. As per the latest figures, compliance with the mandatory High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) installation remains sluggish across Nagpur. Out of 16.71 lakh vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, only a fraction completed the fitment process. The situation in Nagpur (East) Deputy RTO is similar, where 4.11 lakh vehicles fall under the mandate. Of these, 1,09,183 HSRP orders were recorded, but only 48,136 vehicles completed the fitment process. Appointments in this zone stood at 62,470 as of June 19. Meanwhile, the Nagpur Rural RTO, which handles 5.62 lakh pre-2019 vehicles, has shown relatively better progress, with 82,853 vehicles fitted with HSRP from a total of 1.47 lakh orders placed. The transport department has warned that vehicles failing to install HSRP by the extended deadline will face strict penal action from flying squads. However, those who book appointments before August 15 will be exempted from penalties, even if their actual fitment is scheduled for a later date. To ensure compliance, all regional and deputy regional transport officers have been instructed to conduct wide-scale awareness campaigns in their respective areas. They have also been asked to hold meetings with local vehicle dealers and transport unions, including those representing autos, taxis, buses, and trucks, to spread information. Bhimanwar has urged citizens not to wait till the last minute and to promptly book appointments for HSRP installation to avoid fines.

Despite making less power, the Grand Vitara CNG produces a decent 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm of peak torque, albeit paired with only a 5-speed manual transmission. While it may not seem a lot when compared to the 105 bhp and 137 Nm on the pure-petrol model, it gets the job done. One of the biggest reasons to get the CNG version is the overall fuel efficiency, and Maruti Suzuki claims 26.6 km per kg. In contrast, the petrol-manual version offers a fuel efficiency of 21.11 kmpl, while the petrol-hybrid offers 27.97 kmpl (ARAI Certified). The Grand Vitara CNG brings together space and utility in a common package, which is rather unavailable in other SUVs in this segment. It offers a spacious cabin and a usable boot space of 373 litres, against 470 litres on the petrol-only version. While the CNG cylinder does take up some space, use still get a usable boot that makes it a practical choice with lower running costs. Do note that the Grand Vitara petrol-hybrid also partially compromises on the boot capacity due to the batteries. The new Grand Vitara CNG is priced at ₹13.48 lakh for the Delta variant, while the Zeta variant is priced at ₹15.62 lakh (ex-showroom). Both trims are about ₹95,000 more expensive than their petrol counterparts. The premium seems understandable considering the fact that you get a factory-fitted CNG kit covered under warranty, making your ownership experience more fuss-free.
