Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurates two Automated Driving Test Tracks by Maruti Suzuki

Hans India27-05-2025

In a significant move to enhance road safety in Uttarakhand, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Haridwar and Rishikesh set up by Maruti Suzuki under its CSR initiative.
ADTTs are equipped with high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems to conduct driving license evaluations without human intervention. This technology ensures a more comprehensive, efficient, and transparent testing process for driving license seekers. Evaluation at ADTTs is done in line with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR).
Both these new ADTTs will cater to driving license testing for Light Motor Vehicle (LMV), and 2- wheelers. In addition to automation of these two ADTTs, Maruti Suzuki operates an ADTT in Dehradun, since 2019. This facility won accolades from the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for Excellence and Good Governance in 2019-2020.
Dedicating the facility to the state, Brijesh Kumar Sant (IAS), Secretary Transport, Uttarakhand Government, said, 'We are committed to making Uttarakhand's roads safer, and Maruti Suzuki's ADTTs are an important enabler in this direction. Our association with Maruti Suzuki goes back to 2009, when the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research was established in Dehradun. With the comprehensive evaluation at ADTTs, we can ensure that only skilled drivers get a driving license. Another state-run road safety initiative where we work with Maruti Suzuki is refresher training for commercial drivers before Char Dham yatra (holy pilgrimage). I also compliment the Company for steering this training program, which helps prepare drivers for yatra route.'
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, 'We thank the Uttarakhand Government for their continued association with Maruti Suzuki. Under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand is rapidly progressing. One of the key growth drivers for the state is tourism. Efficient and skilled drivers are needed to boost tourism and contribute to safer roads. Our Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) can play a vital role to achieve this goal by ensuring that only skilled and competent drivers receive a license through a 100% computerized, transparent, and efficient testing process.'
He added, 'Every year, just before the onset of Char Dham yatra (holy pilgrimage), we undertake a refresher training for commercial drivers in Uttarakhand. This prepares the drivers for hilly terrains on yatra route. This training is one of the qualifiers for mandatory Green Card required for all commercial drivers during the yatra. This year, we plan to cover about 11,000 drivers in the refresher driving training at IDTRs.'

Maruti Suzuki Swift completes 20 years on road. Here are 5 reasons why the hatchback is still relevant

The latest Swift was made narrower, taller and slightly wider while having the same wheelbase as the preceding model. Check Offers Even two decades after its Indian debut in May 2005, the Maruti Suzuki Swift continues to be one of the country's best-selling hatchbacks today. With over 3 million units sold and a 31 per cent market share in its segment, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has not only weathered the SUV storm but also emerged as a staple of Indian roads. In FY 2023-24 alone, the car sold nearly 2 lakh units, placing it third on the national sales chart. Through continuous innovation, smart pricing, and an unwavering focus on customers' needs, Swift has not just survived; it has thrived. And with a fifth-generation model reportedly in the pipeline, it looks like Swift's story is far from over. Here are five key reasons why the Swift remains a favourite even 20 years later: Design From its first iteration, the Swift stood out for its unconventional design language, particularly among other cars offered by Maruti Suzuki at the time. Its rounded proportions, upright stance, and compact dimensions helped it gain quick recognition. Over the years, while styling updates have modernised the hatchback, its basic silhouette has remained largely unchanged. The current fourth-generation Swift retains the signature design traits, including a prominent front grille, sharp headlamps, and a slightly squat rear profile. Though styling has evolved, the car still builds on the visual identity introduced in 2005, maintaining a link to earlier versions. Features and cost One reason for Swift's broad appeal has been its relatively balanced approach to pricing and equipment. Entry-level variants cover essential safety features such as ABS and airbags, while higher trims include equipment like touchscreen infotainment systems and alloy wheels. This allows the Swift to cater to a range of buyers with varying budgets. In addition to its features, the model tends to retain value well in the resale market, which makes it a practical choice for long-term ownership. It offers an ownership experience that is cost-conscious without appearing stripped-down. Fuel efficiency Fuel economy has consistently been a key focus in the Swift's development. Early models used reworked engines and gear ratios to improve consumption, and this emphasis has continued into the latest generation. The current Swift petrol variant is rated at 22.38 kmpl (claimed), and the CNG version at 30.9 km/kg. This puts it ahead of many hatchback rivals in terms of efficiency, particularly as fuel prices continue to influence buyer decisions. Maruti's focus on optimising mileage has helped the Swift remain relevant for those looking to minimise running costs. Driving experience While not positioned as a performance car, the Swift has generally offered a more engaging drive than some of its competitors. With its compact dimensions, relatively light weight, and predictable handling, it has appealed to drivers who want more than just point-to-point transport. Its driving dynamics have improved over generations, with refinements to steering, ride comfort, and body control, making it one of the more enjoyable hatchbacks in its segment without compromising on everyday usability. Support network and familiarity The Swift's longevity has been helped by Maruti Suzuki's widespread service infrastructure and relatively low cost of maintenance. For buyers in both urban and rural areas, the availability of parts and trained technicians makes ownership simpler. In addition, long-term familiarity with the model and its reputation for reliability has made it a trusted nameplate. Many buyers returning for their second or third car have shown a preference to stick with a vehicle they already understand. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2024, Best SUVs in India. Deadline extended again: Motorists yet to install HSRP

Nagpur: Despite repeated extensions and appeals, a significant number of vehicle owners in Maharashtra — particularly in Nagpur — are yet to replace their old registration plates with High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), mandated for all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. HSRP is a tamper-proof number plate with a unique identification code and non-removable snap locks aimed at curbing vehicle theft and improving traceability. The installation is mandatory under Central Motor Vehicle Rules. In a fresh circular issued by Maharashtra transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, the govt has once again extended the deadline for HSRP installation to August 15, 2025, citing poor public response and growing demand from citizens for more time. The previous deadline was June 30, 2025. As per the latest figures, compliance with the mandatory High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) installation remains sluggish across Nagpur. Out of 16.71 lakh vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, only a fraction completed the fitment process. In Nagpur city RTO, which oversees 12.59 lakh eligible vehicles, just 1,13,427 HSRP orders were placed, and only 55,076 plates were fitted so far. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What She Did Mid-Air Left Passengers Speechless medalmerit Learn More Undo While 71,248 appointments were booked till June 19, the gap between orders and actual fitments reflects a massive backlog and lack of urgency among vehicle owners. The situation in Nagpur (East) Deputy RTO is similar, where 4.11 lakh vehicles fall under the mandate. Of these, 1,09,183 HSRP orders were recorded, but only 48,136 vehicles completed the fitment process. Appointments in this zone stood at 62,470 as of June 19. Meanwhile, the Nagpur Rural RTO, which handles 5.62 lakh pre-2019 vehicles, has shown relatively better progress, with 82,853 vehicles fitted with HSRP from a total of 1.47 lakh orders placed. The transport department has warned that vehicles failing to install HSRP by the extended deadline will face strict penal action from flying squads. However, those who book appointments before August 15 will be exempted from penalties, even if their actual fitment is scheduled for a later date. To ensure compliance, all regional and deputy regional transport officers have been instructed to conduct wide-scale awareness campaigns in their respective areas. They have also been asked to hold meetings with local vehicle dealers and transport unions, including those representing autos, taxis, buses, and trucks, to spread information. Bhimanwar has urged citizens not to wait till the last minute and to promptly book appointments for HSRP installation to avoid fines.

2025 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG: 5 reasons to buy

Maruti Suzuki recently re-introduced the Grand Vitara CNG, bringing back the fuel option to the compact SUV. The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG is priced from ₹13.48 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, and arrives in two variants - Delta and Zeta. The new CNG variant brings lower running costs to the SUV, which will attract more buyers. If you are considering bringing one home, here are five reasons to buy the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG. The new Grand Vitara CNG has been updated with a host of features to make the package more compelling. The model comes equipped with six airbags as standard, ventilated front seats, and wireless phone charging. This is in addition to the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, keyless entry, an air purifier, and more. ₹ 11.42 - 20.68 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 14.25 - 23.34 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 11.34 - 20.19 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 11.5 - 21.5 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 12.76 - 14.96 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 11.11 - 20.5 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon (Also read: 2025 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara S-CNG launched, gets new features & 6 airbags) The CNG variant of the Grand Vitara uses a detuned version of the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine found on the pure-petrol model. Despite making less power, the Grand Vitara CNG produces a decent 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm of peak torque, albeit paired with only a 5-speed manual transmission. While it may not seem a lot when compared to the 105 bhp and 137 Nm on the pure-petrol model, it gets the job done. One of the biggest reasons to get the CNG version is the overall fuel efficiency, and Maruti Suzuki claims 26.6 km per kg. In contrast, the petrol-manual version offers a fuel efficiency of 21.11 kmpl, while the petrol-hybrid offers 27.97 kmpl (ARAI Certified). The Grand Vitara CNG brings together space and utility in a common package, which is rather unavailable in other SUVs in this segment. It offers a spacious cabin and a usable boot space of 373 litres, against 470 litres on the petrol-only version. While the CNG cylinder does take up some space, use still get a usable boot that makes it a practical choice with lower running costs. Do note that the Grand Vitara petrol-hybrid also partially compromises on the boot capacity due to the batteries. The new Grand Vitara CNG is priced at ₹13.48 lakh for the Delta variant, while the Zeta variant is priced at ₹15.62 lakh (ex-showroom). Both trims are about ₹95,000 more expensive than their petrol counterparts. The premium seems understandable considering the fact that you get a factory-fitted CNG kit covered under warranty, making your ownership experience more fuss-free.
