An aspiring jockey has died at a leading racing yard — in the third tragedy at the stables in the last four years. Stable lad Billy Moffatt was found in his accommodation at the Warren Greatrex stables on Saturday.
The alarm was raised when Billy, said to be in his early 20s, did not show up for work. The North East native worked for Greatrex training horses for around a year.

It is the third death in recent years connected to the stable after staff members Michael Pitt, 19, was found dead at a petrol station after taking his life in July 2021, and David Thompson, 25, was reported missing before his body was tragically discovered in February 2022.

Trainer Warren said Billy's passing was 'hugely upsetting' and said: 'He was a great member of the team with a great sense of humour.'
Jockey Jack Wilmot said: "Billy, words can't describe the way I'm feeling. I'm absolutely heartbroken, I'll love you forever mate and will always carry you with me whatever I do.
"Please, please, if you're struggling with something, please talk to someone. Love you mate. Gone far too soon."
SJD racing said: "So sad to hear of the passing of Billy Moffatt. Gone far too soon We had the pleasure of helping him in his career as he wanted to learn to jump. Our thoughts are with his family. Please check in on your friends."
More than £10,000 has been raised in a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of seeing Billy return to the North East from Berkshire and the funeral. James Moffat said: "I've been asked to set up a go fund me to help get our boy and all his belongings back home to the North East and help towards his funeral.

"It's not something we would even think of doing as a family but his mam has asked rather than flowers, a small donation no matter how much would be greatly appreciated towards helping cover all the costs to get him home and buried, the target is just a number set, anything at all will help, thanks for reading."
Speaking in 2022, Greatrex reflected on the passing of Thompson, a keen Chelsea FC supporter, following Pitt. "He didn't ride out but he loved his horses," he said.
"We heard on Saturday morning that he had died and it was really hard to take, especially in the circumstances that we lost Michael Pitt last summer who was another person that was the life and soul of the yard and was a great part of the team.
"With neither lad you would ever imagine this would happen. There was no real signs. David's childhood had been a bit broken and he hit low at times but in the yard you would never see any signs of that.
'We are a big family here and to lose a member of the team is not easy to take. Everyone does get on well here from the top down but it has been very tough but we will get through it."

Cherrie said: "I had a phone call from my ex asking if we - me and my partner - could go check his mum's house as he had messages from people mentioning a fire at his mum's. So of course we drove straight round and saw all the fire engines and the firemen, roofs caved in." She's absolutely devastated but is so in awe and amazed with the community and how much they've helped all families involved." Locals have voiced support on social media - offering accommodation, blankets and money to those who lost their homes to the blaze. A young Mississippi mother was gunned down inside a McDonald's in what police are calling a horrifying murder-suicide. Kianna Jackson, 25, was killed around 7 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the McDonald's on Stribling Lane in Brandon, just outside Jackson. Police say she was shot by 27-year-old Jhonterryes Dampier who then turned the weapon on himself. It is believed that her and Dampier shared a five-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died two days later. Jackson's relatives have put together a GoFundMe to cover funeral and burial expenses, with any leftover donations going toward a trust fund for her children. 'She was a cherished mother… a beloved daughter, sister and friend,' the family wrote in the description of the fundraiser. 'As we navigate this painful time, we want to honor Kianna's life with the memorial and funeral service she deserves.' Justin Taylor, who owns a local TV mounting business, said he was at the couple's home just two weeks before the shooting - and sensed something was off. He had been called over by Dampier to install a television in their living room and recalled feeling uneasy about the dynamic between the two, though he didn't say anything at the time. 'I can tell the dynamic between them wasn't right but that just wasn't my business… now it resulted to this,' he said in the post. The last few days have seen Brits hit with sweltering heat blasts with some parts of the UK hitting 33C- but a dip in a river to cool off turned into tragedy for 20-year-old Jacob Rutkowski A family have paid tribute to their 20-year-old son who was found dead in their village river this week. It is understood that on Friday, June 20 Jacob Rutkowski was at the river Tees in County Durham when the tragedy took place. It is believed he entered the water in Gainford but began to struggle, sparking a huge emergency response. ‌ After a 999 call was made at around 2.30pm the air ambulance, mountain rescue crews, police helicopter, paramedics and fire crews all rushed to the rural village. Drones and rescue dogs were also used in the search in a desperate bid to save Jacob. ‌ Despite their best efforts Jacob was unable to be saved and several hours later police Durham Police confirmed that they had pulled a body from the river. Their statement on Friday night read: "We're sorry to report that a body has been found in the river at Gainford this evening. It is believed a 20-year-old man had entered the water this afternoon and got into difficulty. "Formal identification has yet to take place but the man's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. We would like to thank all our emergency services partners for their assistance." While police have yet to formally identify the body as the 20-year-old from from Darlington, County Durham, a GoFundMe page set up by Jacob's loved ones suggests it was Jacob. The page was set up to raise funds for his funeral and a heartbreaking message shared to the page read: "As many of you have already heard, our family experienced the unimaginable. This devastating loss has left our entire family heartbroken beyond words. He was a son, a brother, a loving boyfriend — and above all, a beautiful soul taken far too soon. "We are raising funds to help with funeral and memorial costs, and to support the family during this painful time. Anything you can give will help ease the burden and allow us to focus on grieving and honouring his memory. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts." They have included incidents such as sinking and capsized boats, individuals trapped in mud or caught by the tide, and people and animals in distress in the water.
