Ricky Gervais risks cancellation over eyebrow-raising Walk of Fame award speech
Comedian, Ricky Gervais, has been awarded a coveted Hollywood Walk of Fame Award in Los Angeles, but risked getting cancelled when he made a speech accepting the honour
Ricky Gervais risked getting cancelled on Friday when he accepted a prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame award. The outspoken comedian, 63, was bestowed the honour for his services to the entertainment world and posed proudly for snaps with his very own star on Hollywood Boulevard at the iconic landmark in Los Angeles.
Dressed casually, sporting a black T-shirt, jeans, trainers and sunglasses, The Office star admitted he was "surprised" to be part of the Walk of Fame, which boasts a number of huge A-listers from the past and present. However, risking the honour with a follow-up statement, Ricky made a joke about being grateful to join some of the legends memorialised on the boulevard as he referenced Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby and Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle — all of whom have faced accusations of sexual assault.
"Thank you so much for this honour. It's a genuine thrill to be part of such an exclusive club," Ricky said, reports Variety. He continued: "And just looking around earlier at all the other stars, absolute icons, you know? Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, Fatty Arbuckle."
All three men went to trial for their alleged crimes, but only The Cosby Show star, Cosby, was convicted for sexual assault – but later had the conviction overturned – while Jackson was acquitted over molestation allegations and Arbuckle was acquitted of rape and manslaughter.
Ricky, who left the Golden Globes audience skewered in 2020 when he made 'woke' jokes about Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein and Prince Andrew, began his speech, saying: "Wow, this is a huge surprise. I never thought I'd win this today."
Unfolding a piece of paper, he went on: "I haven't even prepared a speech or anything. I should firstly apologize for how I'm dressed. This isn't me trying to be cool or disrespectful to the establishment. This is me not having a suit that fits anymore."
He later joked about how his job is to be "not very good at taking things too seriously" and delivered his controversial comments about the company he was keeping on the Walk of Fame despite saying he was "going to try and be serious".
Ricky is no stranger to a raised eyebrow with his speeches and left the Golden Globes audience in 2020 open-mouthed with his controversial delivery.
Hosting the ceremony for the fifth time, the comedian went off on an eight-minute monologue criticising various aspects of Hollywood, bringing in issues of racism, the Epstein scandal and finishing the speech with a jab at every 'woke' celebrity that tries to lecture the world as they're receiving the awards.
Ricky was slammed by many celebrities the morning after the awards, with several accusing the After Life star of being 'cruel' and 'unkind' as he poked fun at the toast of Tinseltown.
However, responding to criticism on Twitter, now X, the comic said: "Thank you for all your amazing comments about my Golden Globes monologue. Best reaction ever, that means a lot to me.
"I had a blast but thank f*** it's over so I can get back to my real job of editing #AfterLife2 and touring #SuperNature. Makes jokes not war."

Pixar film risks breaking devastating record despite being hailed 'dazzling'
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Pixar's latest offering Elio has wowed critics, but it looks set to make a devastating new record for the studio. The animated sci-fi film tells the story of 11-year-old boy Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab) who dreams of being abducted by aliens after feeling out of place on Earth for so long. He is accidentally beamed up to the Communiverse, an organisation which has representatives from several galaxies, where he is mistakenly identified as Earth's ambassador. It currently holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics, but it could become the lowest domestic debut ever for Pixar. Box office reports from Variety show the film grossed $9 million (£6,6M) on Friday across 3,750 locations. It has been predicted that this could mean Elio will fall well behind 2023's Elemental, the film which currently has the lowest domestic debut, at $29M (£21.5M) The critics' consensus for the film could not be further away from its low box office, reading: 'Catapulted by its theme of building self-esteem, Pixar's latest cosmic wonder Elio boasts a fanciful world of original creations to dazzling effect.' 'Elio is another knockout, a quiet but determined shooting star that earns its place in the galaxy,' Tribune News Service wrote. Movie Mom added: 'Pixar's latest has everything we love about Pixar, a heartwarming story with endless imagination, charm, and wisdom, about an endearing character and the fears and joys of being human.' Others, however, pointed out the predictability of Elio's plot, with saying: 'Schmaltzy yet sincere, Elio, the latest from Pixar, is as predictable as they come but as tender as they can get.' Paste Magazine added: 'As a story about children finding a place to belong, discovering their true sense of self and realizing that parents and parental figures love you even when they don't always understand you, Elio is a lovely, if not particularly original story.' The Daily Beast summarised: 'For all its overt '80s homages, there's something timeless about Elio. too. It may be mid-tier Pixar, but that's still likely to make it one of the better animated offerings of the year.' More Trending Speaking ahead of the film's release, Kibreab opened up to Screen Rant about learning he had scored the role of Elio alongside Zoe Saldana who voices Elio's aunt Olga. 'I love all the Pixar movies and I watched them all the time and I still do today. And just to be in one, in an original Pixar movie, is such a pinch-me moment,' he said. They both reflected on what they had learned from each other while filming, with Emilia Perez star Saldana revealing, 'He's been teaching me how to be Alpha and Gen Z,' learning everything about 'rizz' and Skibidi Toilet. Elio is in cinemas now Got a story? Fat Joe sued for $20,000,000 over claims of underage sex with minors
Reports from America say that Fat Joe has been sued for a whopping $20million (£14.8m) over claims of unpaid wages and underage sex with minors. The New York rapper, 54, whose real name is Joe Cartagena, rose to fame in the mid-to-late 90s as a solo performer and as a member of the Terror Squad. He landed his biggest UK chart hits in 2002 and 2005 when he teamed up with Ashanti for What's Luv? and with Jennifer Lopez for Hold You Down – both top 10 singles. Now, his former hypeman and stage partner of 16 years, Terrence Dixon – better known by his stage name T. A. – has filed a lawsuit against Cartagena in federal court. Dixon is alleging that Cartagena engaged in 'coercive labor exploitation, financial fraud, sexual manipulation, violent intimidation, and psychological coercion' – claims that Cartagena denies. Further reports (via Variety) indicate that the lawsuit also accuses the Feelin So Good rapper 'deliberately suppressed, silenced and erased Dixon's substantial creative, artistic, and commercial contributions'. The complaint, which is 157 pages long, has been filed in the US District Court, Southern District of New York, and contains a trigger warning in its contents. Dixon accompanied Cartagena on stages across the world for 16 years, often working up and energising the crowd before and during sets. During this time, he alleges, the Lean Back rapper forced him 'into humiliating situations, including sex acts performed under duress and surveillance, accompanied by threats of abandonment.' Cartagena is represented in the case by celebrity attorney Joe Tacopina, who has represented, among others, US President Donald Trump and rapper ASAP Rocky. 'The lawsuit filed by Tyrone Blackburn and Terrance Dixon is a blatant act of retaliation,' a statement from Cartegana's representatives began. '[It's] a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the civil suit we filed first, which exposed their coordinated scheme to extort Mr. Cartagena through lies, threats, and manufactured allegations.' The latest development follows Cartagena's filing of his own lawsuit against Dixon in April of this year, in which he claimed that his former hypeman had slandered him on social media. Claims are made in Dixon's suit that he was personally coerced 'into more than 4,000 sexual acts to maintain his standing' within Cartagena's musical enterprise. The most shocking claim made is that the hypeman 'personally witnessed [Cartagena] engage in sexual relations with children who were 15 and 16 years old.' Three Jane Does – a 16-year-old girl from New York, a 15-year-old girl from outside the USA, and another 15-year-old girl – are listed in the document. More Trending Dixon alleges that Cartagena 'contemplated leaving his wife' after 'falling in love' with the third girl, who it's claimed he met with just before she turned 16. The response from Cartagena's legal team continued: 'The allegations against Mr. Cartagena are complete fabrications – lies intended to damage his reputation and force a settlement through public pressure.' Dixon is credited as a musician and lyricist on several of Fat Joe's songs that were released around the late 2000s and early 2010s, specifically on the album Jealous Ones Still Envy 2. The hypeman – also known as Population One in the music industry – is said to be represented for the lawsuit by Tyrone Blackburn, who is currently lead counsel in the high-profile Sean 'Diddy' Combs case. If you take Cluedo a little too seriously, this immersive dinner could be the next best activity date for you. I went along to The Perfect Bite experience, with tantalising drama and a murder to be solved Ever fancied yourself as Sherlock Holmes or Benoit Blanc? Or maybe you watched the Knives Out films and thought you'd love to be involved in a whodunnit investigation? Either way, if you're looking to add a little more bite to your usual romantic dinner, The Perfect Bite could be the next best dinner date idea. The Perfect Bite - hosted at Gaucho, City of London - adds a tantalising twist to your standard meal, serving up an evening of entertainment while you enjoy your steak and chips. By attending this limited time event, you're signing yourself up to a delicious four-course meal but you'll have to work for it, as you attempt to solve a twist-filled murder mystery, led by detective Logan Locke. READ MORE: Daniel Craig looks unrecognisable as he steps out in Venice with wife Rachel Weisz I have to say I wasn't expecting the level of suspense while enjoying my meal. Couples were embroiled in full blow arguments, suspects had breakdowns as we questioned them over their involvement and double lives were exposed. I worked alongside three other guests to find clues between courses, and watch the drama unfold as suspects revealed their true colours as the plot thickened. The Perfect Bite serves as an ideal immersive experience for a group of friends or as an exciting change to your usual date night. I left Gaucho feeling fulfilled, not only had I enjoyed a tasty meal, but I'd also solved a murder and had a decent dose of drama to go and tell my friends about. The Perfect Bite is inspired by Netflix 's Knives Out, which is set for a third instalment. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery sees Daniel Craig reprising his role as the charming sleuth Benoit. Joining him is an A-list cast including Josh O'Connor (known for Challengers and The Crown), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Priscilla), Mila Kunis (Black Swan) and the legendary Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmations). Jeremy Renner is also making a comeback to the franchise. Devotees will recall his stint as the mascot for a hot sauce brand in Glass Onion, but his character in Wake Up Dead Man is entirely unrelated. The latest instalment will hit the streaming service on December 12, 2025, but Craig admitted that he'd love for the movie to go into theatres. 'Hopefully, Netflix will push it out a bit, and people will get to see it. The people I speak to – the fans, I suppose – all they want to do is take their families and go see it at the cinemas. That's all they want to do. Hopefully we can give them that experience,' the former James Bond star told Variety. Netflix's first-look prompted reactions from fans, with one saying: "Let's go. Love Daniel Craig in this role," while another commented: "I'm just here for Benoit Blanc's Southern charm and all the chaos in between."
