Diesel says, laughing, as he begins to film. The woman appears displeased with being recorded. 'C'mon what is this?' she says. Diesel raises his voice, saying over and over, 'My back is hurt! Oh god, my neck.' Neither vehicle appears to have any visible damage in his video. It is possible that there is damage that doesn't show up on camera, but it appears to be minor at best. Diesel nevertheless leaned into the injured neck and back trope. In a comment on his post, which appears to have been made in jest, he wrote, 'I'm currently in a full body cast.' What to Do if Someone Starts Recording You Being filmed in public can be uncomfortable, especially if the person recording you didn't ask for permission. Almost no one wants to unwillingly become the star of someone else's viral video. But generally speaking, it is legal to record people in public. The American Civil Liberties Union reports that people have the right to film in public places. If in private, you have to ask permission. PetSmart is a privately owned company, but it's open to the public. Staff there could technically ask Diesel to leave, but it's unlikely the woman has the right to ask him to stop filming. Most states broadly allow people to record at establishments that are open to the public, so long as there is no reasonable expectation of privacy, such as in the bathroom or shower. The main thing is to keep tension low to avoid conflict. It kind of makes sense to record after a car crash. Being in an accident can easily raise emotions and cause people to lash out. Fistfights and other acts of violence often occur after car accidents. Your video can also serve as a record of the weather, traffic, injuries, and condition of the vehicle(s) after an accident and provide evidence for all parties. Is This an Example of 'Clip Farming?' Many content creators do something known as ' clip farming ' in the hopes of going viral. Clip farming is the practice of exploiting a situation for the purpose of generating viral clips, often with the intention of gaining online attention and popularity. Tactics include intentionally being funny and over exaggerating moments to increase the chance of going viral. One person accused Diesel of doing just that, writing, 'Bro probably ain't even want the insurance details he just wanted to clip farm.' Others weren't concerned about how Diesel got the content, they just thought it was funny. 'Lmao bro earned a follow,' one said. Many piled on to the joke, making comments like 'OUR back is hurt' and 'Praying for [a] fast check, I mean recovery.' Diesel is fully committed to the apparent bit. He told Motor1 , 'Yes she came flying in like Ricky Bobby my head hit the windshield and I got badly injured. I'm in a full body cast and my neck and back is broken.' His TikTok has 440,000 views as of this writing. Mayor Brandon Johnson's transportation chief departing City Hall
Tom Carney has resigned as commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation in the latest shakeup of Mayor Brandon Johnson's cabinet. Carney, a longtime CDOT veteran who Johnson appointed to lead the department in December 2023, told colleagues on Friday that he will be leaving City Hall, Johnson spokesperson Cassio Mendoza confirmed Friday afternoon. His departure follows several other high-profile exits in the Johnson administration this year — and comes before the annual NASCAR Chicago Street Race arrives in Grant Park during the Fourth of July weekend. His last day will be July 3, according to an internal message Friday afternoon that was obtained by the Tribune. 'Today, I am writing to inform you that I have decided to resign my position as Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT),' Carney wrote. 'After much reflection, I have determined that the demands of the CDOT Commissioner position are no longer compatible with the significant needs of my family and other personal matters.' In a statement, Johnson wrote: 'I want to thank Tom for his decades of service to our city. His work has made Chicago's streets safer, which has saved lives and made our city stronger.' The city's Transportation Department oversees more than 4,000 miles of streets; streetlights, bridges and intersections; more than 400 miles of bike lanes and trails; and the partnerships that operate the Divvy bike-share system and the city's e-scooters. As commissioner and, before that, in other CDOT leadership roles, Carney also fielded increasing concerns about pedestrian and cyclist safety. Before his appointment, Carney had been acting commissioner for months after Gia Biagi, his predecessor under Mayor Lori Lightfoot, stepped down in August 2023. Before that, he worked in several roles at CDOT, including as first deputy commissioner, managing deputy commissioner for operations and deputy commissioner in the in-house construction division, and was again acting commissioner in 2019 before Biagi was appointed. Under Johnson, Carney also helped move ahead a long-running idea to revamp north DuSable Lake Shore Drive, although the plan put forth by the Illinois and Chicago departments of transportation is still likely years away from fruition. It has also met pushback from transportation advocates who say the rebuild doesn't go far enough to promote transit, biking and walking, or to address climate goals. Carney also threw measured support behind an ordinance from Ald. Daniel La Spata, 1st, to lower the citywide speed limit to 25 mph. But the effort was voted down in February after Johnson declined to help La Spata shore up support for the legislation. And a pilot program to use automated ticketing of drivers in bike and bus lanes downtown debuted last year under Carney as well. The mayor kicked off 2025 by teasing a purge of officials in his administration who he felt were insufficiently loyal. During a 'Faith in Government Tour' panel in early February, Johnson said he should have 'cleaned house faster' when it came to holdover City Hall staffers who did not 'agree with (him) 100%' when he became mayor. 'If you ain't with us, you just gotta go,' Johnson said. 'I'm in a position now where I'll be making some decisions in the days to come, because playing nice with other people who ain't about us, it's just a waste of exercise.' Around then, Aviation Commissioner Jamie Rhee and Park District Superintendent Rosa Escareno both stepped down and were replaced by allies of the mayor. Others in the mayor's team who left the administration include Deputy Mayor for Labor Bridget Early, chief strategist Joe Calvello, Office of Emergency Management & Communications head Jose Tirado and Chief Operating Officer John Roberson. But their exits were not believed to be related to Johnson's comments. Roberson, who has been in the mayor's inner circle from the start of his term, announced earlier this month he will leave City Hall to join the Obama Foundation, after weeks of speculation over his potential appointment to CTA president, a role that still remains vacant.

Huawei Patents Solid-State Battery That Would Let You Road Trip From Miami To Maine On A Single Charge
Toyota is currently working on solid-state batteries it says will allow it to build 900-mile EVs, but while many would call that overkill, dads across the country know it isn't enough. We need more range if EVs are ever going to be good enough for a proper road trip, and if Huawei can deliver on its latest solid-state battery patent, we may almost be there. That's because it offers more than 1,800 miles of range on a single charge, CarNewsChina reports. For context, that's enough range to drive from Miami, Florida, to Bangor, Maine, without stopping. That said, China's range estimates are even more generous than Europe's, which means you may only get 1,200 or 1,300 miles out of a battery like that in the United States. Pitiful, I know. At that point, there's basically no reason to even bring your external catheter on a road trip. Not that the U.S. would allow Chinese battery tech to be sold here in the first place or invest in catching up. Our EV tech will stay generations behind China's, and we will like it. From the sound of it, the real value in this patent is the battery's energy density: The patent outlines a solid-state battery architecture with energy densities between 400 and 500 Wh/kg, potentially two to three times that of conventional lithium-ion cells. The filing also details a novel approach to improving electrochemical stability: doping sulfide electrolytes with nitrogen to address side reactions at the lithium interface, a long-standing obstacle to the commercialisation of sulfide-based batteries. Huawei's design aims to boost safety and cycle life by mitigating degradation at this critical junction. Read more: These Supercars Lose Value So Quickly, They're Almost A Steal Allegedly, given a big enough charger, Huawei says it could charge the battery in about five minutes, too. That would require an absolutely absurd amount of power, but it isn't like companies in China aren't working on that, too. BYD has already shown off a Megawatt charger that's capable of adding 250 miles of range in about five minutes. Early versions would also likely cost a small fortune, though, and it's also hard to see how practical Megawatt charging would be in the remote areas where people might actually use it. But while BYD does actually plan to build at least some of those Megawatt chargers, don't be surprised if Huawei's 1,800-mile solid-state battery ends up being more of a tech demonstration than anything else. Instead, it seems much more likely that the batteries that will ultimately make their way into production cars will be smaller and therefore lighter. A battery that's a third the size of the 1,800-mile battery would still offer more than enough range for a road trip while also drastically reducing weight. Considering how heavy EV batteries are — the battery in the Hummer EV weighs nearly 3,000 pounds — if there's one thing EVs need, it's less weight. So while Huawei's 1,800-mile battery is still theoretical for now, it's still cool to see battery tech advancing to the point where, in a few years, we may see long-range EVs that weigh about the same as gas-powered cars. At least in other countries outside the U.S., since Republicans have decided they'd rather just turn us into a technological backwater. Want more like this?
