New York Giants' Dexter Lawrence among stars 'on the radar' for potential new contract
Star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is the engine that drives the New York Giants' defense.
Though he still has three years remaining on the four-year, $87.5 million contract extension he signed during the 2023 offseason, there's a chance discussions of a new deal may arise sooner rather than later.
When looking at the potential big deals coming down the pike, Anthony Holzman-Escareno of NFL.com included Lawrence as a player who could be on the radar for a new deal following the 2025 campaign.
Lawrence is the best interior defensive linemen this side of Chris Jones. Lawrence led the NFL in sacks through the first eight weeks of the 2024 season, despite being double-teamed at the league's highest rate (63.8%). He has three years remaining on his current deal, but if he can put together a dominant 2025 season, Lawrence is the type of building block you make sure to keep around and keep happy.
Lawrence was firmly in the discussion for the Defensive Player of the Year Award before he suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Week 12. Per Pro Football Focus, Lawrence recorded 36 total pressures to go along with nine sacks and 16 QB hits.
Over the next three seasons, Lawrence carries salary-cap hits of $23.7 million, $26.96 million, and $26.5 million, respectively, per Spotrac. A new deal may seem premature, but an extension could help the Giants free up some future money with Malik Nabers (after 2026) and Kayvon Thibodeaux likely seeking new contracts soon as well.
If Lawrence continues to play at this elite level, which is possible for defensive tackles going into their 30s, there is certainly a conversation that will need to be had potentially after the 2025 season.

James' resume is second to none. Throughout his 22-year career, James is a 21-time All-Star, a four-time NBA champion, a four-time Finals MVP, a four-time NBA MVP, a 21-time All-NBA selection, a six-time All-Defensive team member, and a member of the 75th Anniversary team. The 40-year-old superstar is still at the top of his game, much like Brady when he played in the NFL. Camille Kostek is opening up about the not-so-glamorous side of dating a professional athlete. The Sports Illustrated model, 33, claimed she was judged by other NFL wives for not being married to boyfriend and former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski, 36. "I felt like I was seen as a lesser-than girlfriend because I didn't have a ring on my finger," she shared on an episode of Kristin Cavallari's "Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour," according to US Weekly. "But you want to know what's so interesting about that? The woman that's coming to mind [who] judged me the most, she's divorced." Reps for Kostek did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. Kostek was first linked to Gronkowski in 2015. They previously met in 2013 when the pinup was a cheerleader and Gronkowski was in his third season with the New England Patriots. "Rob and I met when I was 21 years old, and we've been in each other's lives for 10 years," she added. "First breakup was in 2017, but I think that some of the best things that changed the trajectory of my life came from this f---ing breakup that broke me but also allowed me to get in the zone. I didn't care about dating. I felt like I was asexual." Kostek revealed that she decided to chase her dream after the heartbreak. Tony Romo is scheduled to return for a third straight year to play in the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois Championship field and in a pro-am event. The NFL broadcast analyst for CBS and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback will be part of the pro-am at Metamora Fields Golf Club on Tuesday. He is also scheduled to visit the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois as part of his trip, according to OSF. Romo, 45, played high school football in Wisconsin and college football at Eastern Illinois. He went undrafted in 2003, but ended up playing 13 seasons with the Cowboys before retiring in 2017.
