Shehadeh meets Emirati delegation, tours Beirut Digital City
Minister of Displaced and Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence Kamal Shehadeh received an Emirati delegation from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, in his office at the Ministry of Technology in Beirut Digital District.
Minister Shehadi discussed with the Emirati delegation ways of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of strategy and government and human capacity-building. The Minister and the delegation also explored ways to benefit from the UAE's experience in digital transformation, enhance government innovation, and build a flexible institutional environment based on transparency and efficiency, which will contribute to building a better future for Lebanon, transforming its economy into a competitive knowledge economy, and creating an environment conducive to investment.
At the end of the visit, Minister Shehadi and the visiting Emirati delegation toured Beirut Digital District, accompanied by Executive Director Mohammed Rabah, where they were briefed on the services offered by this pioneering technology city, particularly Ecole 42, which trains Lebanese youth in digital skills and prepares them for the job market.
Shehadi then headed to the Grand Serail, where he participated in sessions and workshops focused on enhancing government advancement and knowledge exchange, with the aim of creating a qualitative shift in several vital sectors that directly affect citizens.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Minister Shehadi thanked the United Arab Emirates and the accompanying delegation for their constructive cooperation and support to Lebanon, and expressed his hope for "strengthening this partnership and cooperation in the near future."
Shehadeh also commended President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam's support for the establishment of a ministry specializing in technology and artificial intelligence, stressing that "this ministry will see the light soon, whose agenda will focus on supporting Lebanese youth, strengthening the economy, and creating an environment conducive to companies investing in Lebanon."

Nada Boustany to Joe Saddi: Don't evade confrontation—open all the files, from steamships to dams and more
Former Minister of Energy and MP Nada Boustany responded to recent remarks made by current Energy Minister Joe Saddi, stating the following: First, it took you four months just to receive your files, and yet you claim that no power plant has been operational since 2010. Please update your information: the new Zouk and Jiyeh plants were added to the grid in 2017, and they are currently the most cost-efficient in operation. Second, instead of sidestepping confrontation, open all the files—from steamships to dams and beyond. You should have addressed the real cost burden on Lebanese citizens from private generators and compared that to the cost of steamships. If you're interested in reviewing the numbers, we're ready to share the detailed files. Third, were you unaware that the IFC and World Bank were the ones who prepared the term sheet? Your comment about needing them to 'accompany the tender' falls flat, especially considering that the BOT term sheets have been ready for some time now. Your Excellency, if you wish to speak about your accomplishments in public, at least base them on facts. In short, we heard nothing new, just the same old political rhetoric.

Israel says hit Hezbollah site in Naqoura after questioning member
by Naharnet Newsdesk 21 June 2025, 13:08 Israel's military said Saturday its navy hit a Hezbollah "infrastructure site" near the southern Lebanese city of Naqoura, a day after Israel's defense minister warned the Lebanese armed group against entering the Iran-Israel war. "Overnight, an Israeli Navy vessel struck a Hezbollah 'Radwan Force' terrorist infrastructure site in the area of Naqoura in southern Lebanon," the Israeli army said in a statement. The military said the site was used by Hezbollah "to advance terror attacks against Israeli civilians." In a separate statement on Saturday, the military said it had "struck and eliminated" a Hezbollah militant in south Lebanon the previous day, despite an ongoing ceasefire between both sides. In a statement carried by the official National News Agency, Lebanon's health ministry said late on Friday that one person was killed in a "strike carried out by an Israeli enemy drone on a motorcycle" in the southern town of Baraasheet. Earlier in the day, Israeli warplanes launched a wave of airstrikes on the heights of the Jezzine district, with the Israeli army saying the raids targeted "Hezbollah rocket launchpads and arms depots" and claiming that the Lebanese group had been "trying to rebuild its capabilities in these sites" in violation of the ceasefire understandings. The November ceasefire aimed to end hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which sparked months of deadly hostilities by launching cross-border attacks on northern Israel in solidarity with Palestinian ally Hamas following its October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Lebanon's army, which has been dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure as part of the truce, said earlier in June that the Israeli military's ongoing violations and "refusal to cooperate" with the ceasefire monitoring mechanism "could prompt the (Lebanese) military to freeze cooperation" on site inspections.
