Minister Bharath exhorts students to adopt technology
Minister for Industries and Commerce T.G. Bharath exhorted the students to use the available technology and achieve their goals. Mr Bharath asked the students to think differently and emerge victorious in their life.
The Minister on Monday gave away the Shining Stars awards to the students who excelled in the recently announced SSC and intermediate examination results, at an event organised at a private function hall in the city. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bharath said the State government had decided to give the awards and also a certificate and ₹20,000 cash to encourage students to further excel in academics. He said students are game changers and they can change the world with their innovative ideas.
The Minister asked the parents to encourage their children to choose a career of their interest and not to force their ideas on the children. He said engineering and medicine are not the only careers for the students and there are several other sectors which can be explored by the students.
Panyam MLA Gouru Charitha Reddy expressed happiness over students of government schools excelling on par with those from private schools. She said poverty should not come in the way of academics and the State government is providing many opportunities for the children to study. She said the NDA government had sanctioned ₹5 crore to KGBV schools in four mandals and another ₹3 crore for taking up repairs to BC and SC hostels in Panyam Assembly Constituency alone. Further, steps are being taken to develop the IIT Ambedkar NEET Academy at Chinna Tekur and ₹10 lakh has been sanctioned from CSR funds.
Incharge Collector B. Navya said the State government is providing all facilities at the government schools on par with private schools.
In Nandyal district, Minister for Minority Welfare N.. Md. Farooq gave away the awards to 182 SSC students and 35 intermediate students. He said the good performance of the students with a pass percentage of 82 in SSC has placed the Nandyal district on top among other districts of the State.
District Collector Rajakumari Gania said the State government is not differentiating between government and private schools and had decided to encourage students of both the sectors by awarding the best performing students with Shining Stars awards.
Meanwhile in Anantapur district, 184 SSC students and 35 intermediate students were given the Shining Stars awards by Collector Vinod Kumar V.

SSC Scam in West Bengal: Calcutta HC stays state govt's relief scheme for sacked non-teaching staff
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted an interim stay , restraining the West Bengal government from implementing a scheme to provide monetary assistance to non-teaching staff ( Group-C and Group-D ) who had lost their jobs following a Supreme Court judgment in April this year. The court has directed the state government to file an affidavit within four weeks and reply, if any, within a fortnight. The Single Judge Bench of Justice Amrita Sinha, who was hearing the case said, "As an interim measure, the State is restrained from giving any effect and/or further effect to the impugned Scheme till September 26, 2025 or until further order." Pointing out that the "conflicting stand of the State does not appear to be proper", the court observed that "If it is the specific stand of the State that the review application is pending, then the State ought to have taken leave of the Hon'ble Supreme Court to give effect to the impugned Scheme. On one hand the State proceeds to publish a new Scheme without obtaining leave of the Court where the matter is alleged to be pending, and on the other, when the said Scheme is challenged before the Court, the State opposes the same citing pendency of the review application. Such a conflicting stand of the State does not appear to be proper." The Group-C and D categories, along with the SSC teachers, had lost their jobs after the Supreme Court order on April 3, cancelling the appointments of 25,752 teaching and non-teaching staff in the cash-for-jobs scam last month. The West Bengal government had announced a stipend to Group-C and Group-D under the West Bengal Livelihood Social Security Interim Scheme, 2025 on a temporary basis, providing ₹25,000 and ₹20,000 for non-teaching staff Group-C and Group-D of the sacked employees respectively, to help their distressed families. They were recruited through the 2016 selection process conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission. Meanwhile, the High Court's order has sparked a political slugfest . Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stood by the employees and their families, who lost their jobs following the apex court order, and took a humanitarian step and decided to provide an interim relief. People can identify who went to court against such a humanitarian stand. Justice Amrita Sinha has given an interim stay today." Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari welcomed the court's decision, asserting that the Chief Minister cannot unilaterally disburse funds from relief accounts.

Karnataka High Court stays new tender invited for collection of waste in Bengaluru
Observing that 'there is a breach of the undertaking given to the court earlier', the High Court of Karnataka has stayed the new tender invited by the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML) on May 28 for collection and transportation of city's garbage. The court noted that on April 22, it gave permission to the State government and the BSWML to continue with the tender invited on November 7, 2024, but both the government and the BSWML, instead of continuing that tender, have now come out with a new tender. Contrary to undertaking Inviting new tender with new clauses is contrary to the undertaking given to the court by the State Advocate General, who had assured the court that the November 7, 2024, tender would be continued and would be taken to its logical conclusion by allowing participation of those contractors, who were either disqualified or their bids were rejected and have filed petitions before the court, to participate in the tender, the court noted. Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the interim order on the petition filed by Bengaluru Mahanagara Swachate Mattu Lorry Malikara Hagoo Guthigedarara Sangha. It has been pointed out in the petition that the government, in its May 26 approval granted for floating a new tender, , imposed a condition that BSWML has to take permission from the minister in charge of the department instead of continuing the 2024 tender. This condition, the petitioner-sangha has claimed, is a clear violation of the provisions of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act. During the hearing, the court expressed serious displeasure with the A-G on the conduct of the State government in breaching the undertaking given to the court earlier.

Govt. released additional water to industries from Hidkal dam, say farmers
Activists and farmers leaders have complained that the State government had released more than twice the amount of water than stipulated for industries from the Hidkal dam in Belagavi district. The Department of Irrigation, under requests from the Department of Industries has released over 0.229 tmcft. of Ghataprabha river water for industries, against the allocation of 0.1 tmcft. of water from the Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir. The full reservoir capacity is 51 tmcft. The government's response has become important in the wake of reports that the department of industries has obtained the release of a further 0.5tmcft. of water from the dam to the Dharwad industrial area. A Right To Information application by activist Sujit Mulgund has revealed that from the dam State government had released 'excess water' to industries. 'This is legally and ethically wrong. While the rule says that only 0.1 tmcft. is to be set aside for industries. Secondly, the cities of Belagavi, Bagalkot and en route villages depend on the Hidkal dam for drinking water. In fact, they suffer from water scarcity during summer months as the water levels in the dam are reduced. In such a situation, it is a cruel joke on the people of north Karnataka to divert drinking water for industries,'' he said. 'The State government has also acted in a non-democratic manner, by not taking into confidence, the local irrigation consultative committee of the Hidkal dam, in deciding to release water to industries,' he said. This dam was not built to benefit just a few industries. Its primary task is to support the rural poor, Mr. Mulgund said. 'The State government has violated the National Water Policy of 2011, that gives preference to drinking water and agriculture, over industrial usage,' he added. A delegation of farmers led by former Minister Shashikant Naik has urged the State government not to draw water from Hidkal for Dharwad industrial area. Another team led by water expert B. Anand Kumar, advocate Nitin Tolbandi, Mr. Mulgund and others have suggested that treated sewage water from Belagavi and Dharwad could be utilised for industrial purposes, rather than drinking water from dams. Mr. Naik said they would appeal to the State government again, to stop supply of Ghataprabha waters to industrial areas. 'If the government does not listen to us, we will protest and stop the water supply pipeline works,' he said. Established in 1961, the Hidkal Dam was meant exclusively for irrigation and drinking water. It is named after Raja Lakhamagouda, the erstwhile head of a local princely state, and philanthropist who donated land and resources to several educational institutions in British India.
