Joe Rot achieves HUGE record after WTC Final 2025, becomes first player to...
New Delhi: Even though the England team did not reach the final of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC), Joe Root has achieved a historic feat in this tournament. South Africa defeated Australia in the final at Lord's to win the WTC title for the first time. With this victory all three editions of the WTC had different winners – New Zealand (2019-21), Australia (2021-23), and now South Africa (2023-25). WTC 2023-25: Joe Root highest-scoring players
Joe Root scored 1968 runs at an average of 54.66 in 22 matches in the 2023-25 WTC cycle, including 7 centuries. He won the title of top scorer in the season. Meanwhile, Australia captain Pat Cummins was the highest wicket-taker in this cycle. He took 80 wickets in 18 matches.
Root becomes top run scorer of two consecutive WTC cycles
Root has made history by scoring the most runs in two consecutive WTC cycles (2021-23 and 2023-25). Earlier, he had scored 1915 runs in the 2021-23 session. Interestingly, Root was also the second-highest run-scorer in the 2019-21 season, where he was only 15 runs behind Marnus Labuschagne. Each session's top scorer
2019-21: Labuschagne (1675 runs), Root (1660 runs)
2021-23: Root (1915 runs), Khawaja (1621 runs)
2023-25: Root (1968 runs), Illustrious Jaiswal (1798 runs)
Joe Root's all-time dominance at the WTC
Joe Root has become the batsman with the most runs (5543) and centuries (18) in WTC history so far. No player has reached 5000 runs after him. He also leads the way in terms of centuries, while in second place is Steve Smith, who has 13 centuries to his name.
Different bowler tops every session
The highest wicket-taker in each session at the WTC has been different — Ravichandran Ashwin (2019-21), Nathan Lyon (2021-23), and Pat Cummins (2023-25). The England side, however, have so far failed to make it to the final despite hosting the final at home all three times.

India vs England day 3 in stats featuring Jasprit Bumrah's record-setting day
India vs England: Jasprit Bumrah continued his record-breaking spree in Test whites as he spearheaded India's overseas pace bowling in yet another innings with his 14 five-wicket haul at Leeds on Sunday. Bumrah's 5/83 effort ensured that England were bundled out for 465 in their first innings, handing India only a slender six-run lead after his pace partners Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna endured their worst Test outings at Headingley. India's pace spearhead also scaled new heights in terms of sheer performance of Test bowlers at their peaks, catching up with the primes of Pakistani legends Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram. Here are the top stats and records from India vs England Day 3's play at Leeds: 150 – Jasprit Bumrah became the 30th bowler to record 150 Test wickets in SENA countries (including home bowlers). Only Vernon Philander (20.84) holds a better average than Bumrah (20.88) in the four countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). 11 – Bumrah equalled R Ashwin (11 in 78 innings) for the most five-wickets hauls in the World Test Championship in only 67 innings. 12 – Bumrah equalled Kapil Dev for the most Test five-fors among Indian bowlers in away Tests. The tally is also the highest by any pacer in the 21st century. 30.9 – Bumrah's strike rate in his last 20 Tests (37 innings) since Jan 2022 for his 103 wickets is the best for any bowler in history in a 20-match sequence, eclipsing Waqar Younis (32.46 for 133 wickets). 15.27 – Bumrah's average in his last 20 Tests is only bettered by Imran Khan (15.12 for 116 wickets between 1981-85) in a 20-match sequence among all Test pacers. 2 – For the first time in 10 years, two India pacers conceded more than 120 runs (Md Siraj 2/122 and Prasidh Krishna 3/128) in the same Test innings. 6.40 – Prasidh Krishna's economy rate is the worst for an India pacer in a Test innings conceding at least 100 runs. Only Lahiru Kumara (6.56 for 0/164) has conceded more runs at a higher economy in a Test innings among fast bowlers.

"India will miss his energy, positivity, and aggression": RCB head coach Andy Flower reflects on Virat Kohli's test retirement
Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) [India] June 22 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) head coach Andy Flower reflected on Indian veteran batter Virat Kohli's retirement from test cricket. He felt 'Men in Blue' would miss Kohli's energy, positivity, and aggression on the field, but also said 'India are lucky' that they have lots of young talent. Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12, marking an end to an illustrious 14-year career which saw him dominate a variety of conditions, regions, and opponents, both as a batter and captain. While speaking to ANI, Andy Flower said, 'I think it will have on the Indian team, not only his (Kohli's) runs, but his energy, positivity, and aggression. It is always nice having those influences in teams, where you have a few individuals that are super aggressive like he [Virat Kohli] is, in a good way. So, I think they might miss that.' 'This is the reality of these situations when great players move on, is that time moves on and teams move on and India are lucky in that they have lots of young talent coming through,' he added. Flower said India still has experienced cricketers around, such as Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, and felt the Indian Premier League sets young players up quite nicely for pressure cricket. 'India still has some very experienced cricketers around who have played a lot of cricket. Bumrah is obviously one of them, and Jadeja is still playing. And the young boys are playing so much cricket, and the IPL sets them up quite nicely for pressure cricket,' he said. In his Test career, Kohli made 123 appearances in white clothing, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties in 210 innings and the best score of 254*. He is India's fourth-highest run-getter in the format, behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs), Rahul Dravid (13,265 runs) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122 runs). India is touring England for a five-match test series, which started on June 20. This is the first test series since the legendary batter announced his retirement. This series also marks the beginning of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2025-27 for both nations. (ANI)

"He's been consistent since moving to no 5 slot": Shastri lauds Rishabh Pant's ton against England
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Former India head coach Ravi Shastri heaped praise on the team's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant following his exceptional batting performance on the second day of the Leeds Test against England at Headingley.. Pant slammed 134 runs off 178 balls, which was laced with 12 boundaries and six maximums, scoring at a run-rate of above 75. Speaking about Pant in a video posted by BCCI, Ravi Shastri said, 'He's outrageous. I saw that from the first day I saw him. He's different from the rest. He plays on his own terms. At times, he'll play the numbers game. At times, he'll just do what his mind says. There's a package there that can be extremely dangerous in test match cricket. I think ever since he's come into that number 5 slot, he's been extremely consistent.' Further, the former cricketer went on talk about the boundary which Rishabh Pant slammed on his second ball of his innings on the bowling of England captain Ben Stokes to open his account. 'If you're 30 for 3, for example, you might be tempted to send someone else. But with him, he's so aggressive, he can turn the course of the game. For the others to make the most of it. The other way to look at it is, if he has got a platform like he got today, in this innings. Comes in after lunch, with a score in excess of 100. He can really make you pay the price for it because of the range of shots and the audacity. I mean, the second ball, how many people will hit Stokes down the ground, second ball? So, it's a message to the opposition. I'm not here to just fool around. I'm here to take the attack to you,' the cricketer-turned-commentator added. In the end, the 63-year-old spoke about the 209-run partnership between team India's captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket in the ongoing first Test of the five-match series. 'I'm really happy for him because when you see where he was after that accident. And to come and get a 100 in the first test of the series. I know what one against Bangladesh is, but this is special. When needed, the first test of the series as vice-captain of the side, batting with his captain, they know each other very well. To get involved in that partnership, fabulous,' Shastri concluded. On Saturday, Pant overtook former skipper Rohit Sharma, becoming the team's leading six-hitter in the history of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) history. Pant's six count in WTC has gone up to 62, overtaking Rohit's tally of 56 in 40 Tests. The 27-year-old has smashed these sixes in just 35 matches, scoring a total of 2,386 runs at an average of 41.85 with five centuries and 13 fifties in his WTC leading six-hitter in ICC WTC history is England skipper Ben Stokes, who has smashed 83 sixes in 54 on Saturday also surpassed MS Dhoni to register the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter and continued his good show in what are regarded as tough wickets in countries outside Asia. Pant now has seven centuries, overtaking Dhoni, who has six Test centuries. This is also his fifth century in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) conditions, the most by an Asian batter. Three of these centuries have come in England and one each have come in Australia and South Africa. Also, he has equalled Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara (seven centuries) for most centuries in Tests as a designated keeper among all Asian countries. Earlier on Friday, Pant also completed his 3,000 Test runs, becoming the second Indian wicketkeeper-batter to do so after Dhoni and overtook Dhoni to become Asia's most successful wicketkeeper-batter in SENA on the basis of run count. In 44 Tests for India, Pant has scored 3,082 runs at an average of 43.40, with seven centuries and 15 fifties in 76 innings. His runs have come at a stunning strike rate of 73.69. (ANI)
