JFK Jr.'s nephew blasts Ryan Murphy for not consulting with family for 'grotesque' series American Love Story

Daily Mail5 hours ago

The nephew of the late John F. Kennedy Jr. is striking out at one of the creators of the upcoming biopic series American Love Story.
Jack Schlossberg, the son of JFK Jr.'s sister Caroline Kennedy, said in a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday that the Kennedy family had not been consulted about the 'grotesque' series, which was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
DailyMail.com has contacted Murphy's representative for comment, but hasn't yet received a response.
Murphy, 59, previously got into a spat with Schlossberg over the series just last week, and the controversy comes after he was previously slammed for 'profiting off the grief' of the families of victims of the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in 2022.
In a video shared while he was on a road trip across the United States, Schlossberg clarified his family's involvement in the new series, which depicts the courtship and subsequent marriage of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.
'Lately, my news feed has been filled with pictures of my uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., a great man,' Schlossberg said in the clip. 'For those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with, the new shows being made about him, the answer is no. And there's really not much we can do.'
He explained that there wasn't a legal avenue for his family to exert influence over the production.
'The right to privacy, which includes the ability to control your own name, image and likeness, doesn't survive death in the state of New York,' Schlossberg clarified. 'For that matter, he's considered a public figure, so there's not much we can do.'
'I hope those making these shows about him take seriously what he stood for in his life, all that he achieved in it. And that they donate some of the profits [that] they're making,' he continued.
'For the record, I think admiration for my Uncle John is great. What I don't think is great is profiting off of it in a grotesque way,' he added on a harsher note.
This isn't the first time Schlossberg has called for Murphy to donate his profits from the series.
Last week, Murphy shared photos of the actors in costume to play JFK Jr. and Bessette, which several fans criticized for failing to capture their sense of style and taste.
But Schlossberg jumped into the comments to call out Murphy.
'HEY RYAN — admiration for John is great but maybe consider DONATING PROFITS TO THE KENNEDY LIBRARY thanks,' he wrote.
'I hope those making these shows about him take seriously what he stood for in his life, all that he achieved in it. And that they donate some of the profits [that] they're making,' he continued
Murphy responded, simply writing, '@jackuno I absolutely will.'
The spat was reminiscent of criticism Murphy received in recent years for his Netflix series Dahmer, which traced the life and crimes of the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Dahmer murdered 17 young men over the course of 13 years, in addition to sexually assaulting others. He was bludgeoned to death in prison by a fellow inmate in 1994 at age 34 while serving 16 life sentences.
Rita Isbell, the sister of Errol Lindsey — who was only 19 when he was brutally murdered by Dahmer — claimed in 2022 that she had not been contacted about the series.
She accused Netflix, which streamed the series, of being 'greedy for not contributing money to her late brother's children.
But Murphy later insisted that he tried to contact many of the victims' families in the three-and-a-half years that the show was being made, though he didn't specify if Isbell was one of the people he reached out to.
'We [did] research for a very long time,' he said while discussing the show at an event.
'We, over the course of the three-and-a-half years when we were writing it, working on it, we reached out to around 20 of the victims' families and friends trying to get input, trying to talk to people, and not a single person responded to us in that process.
'So we relied very, very heavily on our incredible group of researchers who… I don't even know how they found a lot of this stuff,' he continued.
'But it was just like a night and day effort to us trying to uncover the truth of these people.'
In a later chat with the New York Times in November 2022, Murphy again defended himself and also fought back against viewers who criticized the series for being marketed as an LGBTQ series.
'What are the rules now?' Murphy asked. 'Should we never do a movie about a tyrant?
'There was a moment on Netflix where they removed the LGBTQ tag from Dahmer and I didn't like it,' Murphy said. 'I asked why they did that and they said because people were upset because it was an upsetting story.
'I was, like, "Well, yeah." But it was a story of a gay man and more importantly, his gay victims.'
Last week, Murphy shared images of actors Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon dressed as JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette for American Love Story.
The two stars posed inside a spacious studio as they did a camera test as production officially kicked off this week.
'FIRST LOOK! Here are some stills from our LOVE STORY camera test,' the TV writer wrote in the caption of the post.
'We started shooting this week in New York City and can't wait until you see the romantic and tragic love story between America's prince, JFK Jr., and fashion icon Carolyn Bessette - out Valentine's Day week of 2026.'
He added, 'I am thrilled to introduce you to Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn and Paul Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr. Over a thousand actors auditioned for each of these roles, and we absolutely found the perfect choices. Congratulations Sarah and Paul!'
Sarah - who is known for the Amazon Prime Video series The Wilds - could be seen wearing a black turtleneck as well as black trousers and a tan coat.
She slipped into a pair of closed-toed, black pumps and allowed her platinum blonde locks to flow down straight past her shoulders.
Bessette had been a fashion publicist for Calvin Klein and was also known for her classic and minimalistic style.
Paul wore a double-breasted, gray suit which was paired with a white dress shirt and red-patterned tie.
In one image, he sported a pair of shades and also stopped for a photo outdoors while donning a different suit.
Kelly further channeled the late JFK Jr. in a pair of jeans, green shirt and black vest - similar to a past look worn by the attorney.
The two stars also cozied up together for the camera - which was shown in a video in a separate post on Friday.
Other celebrities that have been cast in the upcoming project include Naomi Watts as Jacqueline Kennedy, Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein, Leila George as Kelly Klein, Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette and Noah Fearnley as Michael Bergin.
Social media users shared their thoughts on the first look into the new series - with one penning, 'Amazing casting. I knew immediately it was him.'
Another typed, 'Wow, I knew who they were before even reading the caption,' and a fan added, 'Beautiful casting. Well done. Cannot wait to see how it comes together.'
'Man, Jr's casting is DEAD ON,' an Instagram user shared, while celebrities also offered their own feelings.
Fashion designer Marc Jacobs commented, 'Can't wait,' while Office alum Mindy Kaling wrote, 'Wow.'
While Murphy replied to Schlossberg, the producer also responded to another fan who had questioned about the 13th season of American Horror Story.
'Ryan are we getting AHS13 this year? Or not in 2025?' they asked, and Ryan answered, 'Sarah Paulson and I are cooking up something cool!'
The premise of the upcoming series will show, 'what started out as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, [begin] to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel gaze of tabloid media,' per Deadline.
'The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when his private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts.'
Carolyn and John Jr. - who was the son of late 35th President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy - first crossed paths in 1992, when he was in a relationship with actress Daryl Hannah.
Two years later, Bessette and Kennedy began dating and their romance was heavily publicized. The pair were often pictured out in NYC together or attending events.
In 1995, Carolyn and John became engaged and secretly tied the knot in a romantic ceremony the following year in September 1996.
The nuptials were held at a small chapel by candlelight at the Georgia Island of Cumberland - with close friends and family in attendance.
A young Jack Schlossberg had notably been the ring bearer during the wedding.
Bessette had worn a silk gown as she said 'I do' from designer Narciso Rodriguez. After the nuptials, media attentions towards the couple continued to grow.
On July 16, 1999 - Carolyn, John Jr. and her sister Lauren - passed away after their plane crashed off the coast of Martha's Vineyard.
It was later ruled that the cause of the tragic incident was due to Kennedy losing control and all three of the bodies were recovered from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean five days after the crash.
Prior to her relationship with Kennedy, Carolyn had dated Calvin Klein model Michael Bergin.
Executive producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson told Variety last year that Bessette and Kennedy's story 'really resonates right now. It's amazing.
'A lot of younger women are looking to [Carolyn] as sort of a representational icon of a certain period of time that's really fascinating, and hopefully, we'll be able to bring that to the screen.'

Kevin Costner talks about working with women after being sued by Horizon stunt double over 'unscripted' rape scene

Kevin Costner has opened up about working with women weeks after being sued by a stunt double in his latest film Horizon over a 'violent and unscripted' rape scene. The 70-year-old star appeared for a Q&A with Michael Strahan at Fanatics Fest in New York City on Friday. He was asked by the 53-year-old Good Morning America host how he has been able to work romantic storylines into his sports and western films. Costner even mentioned the film at the center of his recent lawsuit as he responded: 'But movies for me, you just can't have a movie without having a girl. And these movies, even in my westerns when I did Horizon, it's dominated by women. 'It's just dominated by, and I just think they made for the best movies, the games we play and the professional athletes, it is a three hour day for them.' He went on to say that when it came to the sports movies that he's done, often times the lives of his characters off the field were more captivating than on the field. Costner explained: 'They basically practice the entire year, but they have these lives outside the lines of what they play. And that's where a lot of drama takes place. 'And I think in the sports movies, I think I've always felt the need to have women.' His comments came just weeks after he found himself in a legal battle as a female stunt double that worked on his $100million Western epic Horizon has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him and the film's producers. Devyn LaBella alleges that she was subjected to an unscripted rape scene without notice on the set of the second and final Horizon film — Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 — in May 2023. According to court docs obtained by LaBella filed her lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, claiming that she 'was the victim of a violent, unscripted, unscheduled rape scene directed by Kevin Costner.' LaBella — who was hired as a stunt double for lead actress Ella Hunt — claimed to have never consented to the alleged scene, which she says left her with 'permanent trauma,' and that there was no intimacy coordinator present. The outlet reports that LaBella is 'suing for an undisclosed amount and wants a trial by jury.' Costner's attorney Marty Singer slammed LaBella as a 'serial accuser' as he vehemently denied her claims, which he insisted have 'absolutely no merit,' in a statement. He said that Costner 'always wants to make sure that everyone is comfortable working on his films and takes safety on set very seriously.' Singer, who accused LaBella of 'shakedown tactics,' also alleged that she had approved and rehearsed the scene with another actor prior to filming. He also claimed she was in 'good spirits' afterwards and had expressed gratitude for the opportunity via text to Horizon's stunt coordinator. In one alleged text, which was shared with PEOPLE, LaBella reportedly sent cartwheel and heart hand emojis to the stunt coordinator. Singer concluded: 'The facts are clear and we are beyond confident that Kevin will prevail.' In LaBella's suit filed Tuesday, the stuntwoman claimed that she was hired on for part two of Horizon as Ella Hunt's stunt double. As per the SAG agreement, LaBella was to stand-in for the actress 'during physical scenes,' as well as for any stunts. According to LaBella's complaint, any 'last minute requests for nudity or simulated sex' are not allowed by SAG and the film's producers are expected to give 48-hours notice of any changes. The performer's permission is also required when it comes to any changes related to intimate scenes. It was also claimed that having a 'coordinator for all intimacy scenes' was a requirement noted in Hunt's contract. Weeks into filming and 'without incident,' LaBella was told to stand-in for Hunt during a 'scripted, aggressive and intimate rape scene' due to its 'physical nature.' Devyn LaBella alleges that she was subjected to an unscripted rape scene without notice on the set of the second and final Horizon film — Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 — in May 2023 The scene was between Hunt's character Juliette and a male character Sig, played by actor Douglas Smith, and it was filmed on May 1, 2023, according to the lawsuit. The scene reportedly 'wrapped' with 'no issues' following multiple takes. One day later, LaBella — whose credits include Barbie (2023) and FX's American Horror Stories — alleged that she returned to the set of Horizon 2 for a 'non-intimate scene.' But LaBella claimed that director Costner, who was allegedly on set that day, had added in a scene where a different male character, played by Roger Ivens, sexually assaults Hunt's Juliette. Costner allegedly directed Ivens to 'climb on top of Ms. Hunt, violently raking up her skirt.' LaBella, who insists in her lawsuit that the scene was not listed on that day's call sheet, was allegedly asked by Costner to 'stand in' for Hunt 'without proper notice, consent, preparation, or appropriate safeguard measures in place.' She claimed that such a request 'was not within the scope of her role as a stunt double.' LaBella also alleged that she was unaware that Hunt herself had refused to do the scene — and that the actress had allegedly even gone as far as to walk off set. LaBella said her consent was not given to go through with the scene as she claimed it differed greatly from the rape scene shot on May 1, 2023, which had been choreographed, etc. Adding to her discomfort was the film's alleged open set, which would have allowed 'anyone' to walk on set and 'observe the scene being performed.' LaBella claimed that Costner did not call out 'action' or 'cut' during the scene, which meant she wasn't aware when it began or ended. She further alleged that neither the film's stunt coordinator or the intimacy coordinator were present during the filming of the impromptu scene or informed it was happening. The impact of the scene took a toll on LaBella, according to her lawsuit, as she allegedly broke down and experienced 'reminders of shame, humiliation and complete lack of control.' LaBella claimed that it was 'awkward' when she returned to set after taking several days off and that she was allegedly told to stay off set and remain in her trailer alone. She also claimed that those involved in the production 'made excuses' for Costner throughout the remainder of the shoot. LaBella claims that the onset incident has left her 'with permanent trauma that she will be required to address for years to come.' She said she began suffering from 'sleep disturbance, fears of intimacy' and 'anxiety,' which drove her to seek the help of a therapist in June 2023. 'On that day, I was left exposed, unprotected, and deeply betrayed by a system that promised safety and professionalism. What happened to me shattered my trust and forever changed how I move through this industry,' she shared in a statement to PEOPLE on Tuesday. 'As I continue performing and step into my journey of stunt coordination, I operate with a fierce commitment to upholding the highest standards, creating sets where safety, communication, and consent are non-negotiable. 'This experience has ignited in me a lifelong mission to be the advocate I once needed, ensuring no one else is ever left as vulnerable as I was.' LaBella's attorney James A. Vagnini called the lawsuit 'emblematic of what is still a very deep rooted issue in Hollywood.' LaBella's other attorney Kate McFarlane added that the 'case is a clear example of male-dominated, sexist Hollywood movie production. 'Our client was subjected to brutal sexual conduct completely unprotected from the obvious harm. This happened despite the fact that there exists standards of conduct and behavior specifically designed to protect people like Devyn LaBella,' McFarlane concluded.

Zak Starkey teams up with Paul McCartney and John Lennon's sons as they work on 'The Beatles kids' after he was sacked from The Who again

Zak Starkey has teamed up with Paul McCartney and John Lennon 's sons as they work on 'The Beatles kids' after he was sacked from The Who again. The son of Ringo Starr, 59, was fired from the band last month, just one month after he was sacked then quickly reinstated. He has now revealed that he is working on new music with Sean Lennon and James McCartney and they have collaborated on a song. Speaking in a new interview, Zak admitted that the idea was something he had avoided for fears of being 'judged forever.' He told The Sun: 'I thought it was a daft idea. But I've got to know James well over the last decade and Sean over the last five years and we have become great friends. 'Their music is great. I had a track called Rip Off and as we were communicating a lot I asked them to contribute.' Zak added: 'We were nervous in case there was no chemistry but there was loads and it sounded great. James' voice powerful it nearly blew me off my seat.' Sean, 48, is the second child of the late icon John, while James, 47, is Paul's only son and youngest child, who he welcomed with his late ex-wife Linda Eastman. In May, The Who guitarist Pete Townshend took to Instagram to announce that Zak, drummer since 1996, was no longer part of the band. But Zak quickly took to his own social media to claim that his departure was not a mutual decision and that he was fired from the band. His sacking comes just months ahead of the legendary bands farewell tour across North America and Pete revealed Scott Devours will replace him on drums. The statement from Pete read: 'After many years of great work on drums from Zak the time has come for a change. A poignant time. Zak has lots of new projects in hand and I wish him the best.' In a second post, Pete and Roger Daltrey added: 'The Who are heading for retirement, whereas Zak is 20yrs younger and has a great future with his new band and other exciting projects. 'He needs to devote all his energy into making it all a success. We both wish him all the luck in the world.' They continued: 'Scott Devours – Who fans will know him from Roger's solo shows – will be replacing Zak. We hope all our fans will welcome him. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey'. Resharing The Who's post, Zak hit back: 'I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit the who to pursue my other musical endeavours this would be a lie. 'I love the who and would never had quit. So I didn't make the statement ….quitting The Who would also have let down the countless amazing people who stood up for me (thank you all a million times over and more) thru the weeks of mayhem of me going 'in an out an in an out an in an out like a bleedin squeezebox x. 'To clarify "other projects" yes I do have other projects and always have. The Who have been sporadic or minimalist in touring most years apart from a two extensive tours in 2000 and 2006/7.' Zak continued to list his other previous projects before adding: 'Releasing singles but not touring cos members are so busy. None of this has ever interfered with The Who and was never a problem for them. 'The lie is or would have been that I quit The Who- I didn't. I love the who and everyone in it.' Zak again took to his Instagram account to share that his version of events had been contradicted yet again after a phone call with The Who singer-guitarist Roger. Zak said Roger told him he hadn't actually been fired and instead 'retired to work on his own projects'. Resharing The Who's post, Zak hit back: 'I was fired and asked to make a statement saying I had quit the who to pursue my other musical endeavours this would be a lie' He wrote: 'NOISE&CONFUSION!!!! I had a great phone chat with Roger at the end of last week which truly confused both of us!!! 'Rog said I hadn't been 'fired'…I had been 'retired' to work n my own projects. I explained to Rog that I have just spent nearly 8 weeks at my studio in Jamaica completing these projects, that my group Mantra Of The Cosmos was releasing one single at the beginning of June and after that had run its course ( usually 5/6 weeks ) I was completely available for the foreseeable future…. 'Rog said "Oh!" and we kind of left it there- On good terms and great friends as we have always been. 'Gotta love these guys. As my mum used to say "The mind boggles!!!" XXX.' It comes weeks after The Who .
