KUWAIT: Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah reaffirmed Kuwait's unwavering commitment to advancing technological innovation, emphasizing the country's focus on computing, artificial intelligence, and other fields that form the backbone of its developmental vision. Speaking to KUNA on Monday during the closing ceremony of the World Robot Olympiad – Kuwait 2025, Sheikh Humoud underscored the importance of nurturing digital skills and technological literacy among youth as a strategic investment in the nation's future.
He praised the coordinated efforts of governmental bodies in supporting initiatives like the Olympiad, stating that such involvement reflects Kuwait's determination to keep pace with rapid global advancements and to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development goals. 'The world is witnessing rapid and continuous transformations in the fields of AI and robotics,' he said, adding that empowering the current generation of tech-savvy youth is essential for developing homegrown solutions that enhance quality of life. He expressed gratitude to the event's organizers, partners, and sponsors, and congratulated all qualifying teams, wishing them continued success.

Also speaking to KUNA, Hamida Rahimi, national organizer of the World Robot Olympiad in Kuwait, noted that preparations for this year's season began in January, with more than 100 countries participating. She explained that the qualifiers concluded at the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil and Gas Exhibition, where five teams earned spots in the upcoming finals in Singapore, while 11 other teams qualified for regional competitions.
Rahimi commended the collaboration between key partners and sponsors, including the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, the American University of the Middle East, and the Public Authority for Youth. She also highlighted the significant participation from the Private Schools Union, which involved 180 private institutions. Salem Al-Baz, Director of the Technology Development Department at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center, confirmed the center's ongoing support for participants through the provision of technical resources, training, and specialized robotics equipment.
He praised the participants' dedication, noting their strong motivation and potential in the technology sector. The closing ceremony of the second edition of the World Robot Olympiad – Kuwait 2025 drew over 200 participants, including Kuwaiti citizens and residents aged between 8 and 22. Their projects were evaluated by a panel of 60 judges specializing in robotics design and programming. Five teams will represent Kuwait in the international finals in Singapore, with 11 more advancing to regional contests. — KUNA

KUWAIT: Minister of Social Affairs Amthal Al-Huwailah and Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajeel hold a meeting to follow up on the readiness of cooperative societies and stocks of goods. - KUNA KUWAIT: The ministers of social affairs and commerce and industry on Thursday reiterated that essential commodities are available in large quantities and called on the public not to hoard food products. Amthal Al-Huwailah and Khalifa Al-Ajeel said after a meeting to assess the situation and coordination between the two ministries that 'the strategic stock of essential and basic commodities is available in sufficient quantities and that coordination between the two ministries is ongoing to ensure its continuous availability'. The two sides called on citizens and residents not to stock foodstuff or hoard them at home to avoid the risk of spoilage or improper storage, adding there is nothing to worry about as commodities are available for all. The meeting was held within the framework of activating the national contingency plan and assessing field inspections and visits to cooperative societies to ensure their complete readiness amid an intensification in the fighting between neighboring Iran and the Zionist entity. The two ministers also called on local companies and factories to accord priority in supplies to cooperative societies because they are concerned with providing and distributing foodstuff and other commodities, adding that cooperative societies work around the clock to guarantee stability in the market and meet people's dmands. Since the outbreak of hostilities, almost all ministries and departments have been making necessary preparations to ensure that the country is not affected by the fallout of the war. Meanwhile, the supreme commission for citizenship announced on Thursday that it has recommended revoking the Kuwaiti citizenship of several people, but did not release the exact number. The commission however said the revocations were due to holding third-country citizenship, obtaining citizenship by fraud and for the sake of the country's interests. Kuwait has so far revoked the citizenship of over 37,000 Kuwaitis, most of them foreign women who were naturalized after getting married to Kuwaiti men. The commission's decision becomes effective after its approval by the Cabinet.

Kuwait Entertainment City to attract global investors, operators Cabinet reviews progress on long-delayed KD 200 million project KUWAIT: Kuwait's Cabinet reviewed progress of the Entertainment City project, a long-delayed project expected to boost tourism, create jobs and diversify the country's economy. In a joint briefing to the Cabinet on Tuesday, Sheikh Dr Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA); Sheikh Saud Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah, Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA); and Sheikh Mohammad Salman Hamoud Al-Sabah, Acting Director of the Asset Monitoring Unit in the General Reserve Sector, outlined the government's updated vision for the Entertainment City project. They described the planned development as 'a community service and a major tourism destination that will help stimulate Kuwait's economy.' They added: 'Once the necessary implementation steps are completed, the project will attract top-tier international companies to invest in and operate this landmark tourism site.' This week's discussion follows the Cabinet's directive in December 2024, which formally called for accelerating execution of the project — originally launched nearly a decade ago. Entertainment City, once a flagship amusement park, was closed in 2016 for renovation and redevelopment. The site, located in Doha, was later approved by the Municipal Council for expansion to 2.65 million square meters. Over the years, multiple government decisions — in 2019 and again in 2024 — refined the scope of the project and approved environmental assessments and zoning adjustments. Most recently, in July 2024, the Municipal Council agreed to transfer project oversight to the KIA, allowing the agency to manage site adaptation and investment terms. According to feasibility studies, the new Entertainment City is expected to cost around KD 200 million, contribute KD 85 million to Kuwait's GDP by 2035, and generate 4,000 jobs. It is also projected to attract up to 900,000 visitors annually by 2030. The Kuwait Touristic Enterprises Company, a state-owned entity, has assembled a consultancy team to explore design and operational models with the goal of maximizing long-term economic return and attracting foreign expertise. — Agencies

162,000 Kuwaitis visited UK in 2024, a 6 percent increase from 2023 KUWAIT: In collaboration with the British Embassy in Kuwait, Britain's national tourism agency, VisitBritain, organized a special afternoon tea event on Tuesday aimed at promoting the UK's diverse summer tourism experiences beyond London. During her opening remarks, British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis emphasized the importance of strengthening the close ties between the United Kingdom and Kuwait, noting the growing interest among Kuwaiti travelers in exploring the UK's home nations. Ambassador Lewis added that Kuwaitis made 162,000 visits to the UK in 2024, a 6 percent increase from 2023 — with an average spend of £2,641 per person. The Gulf region ranks as the UK's tenth-largest inbound market, and Kuwait is projected to have the third-highest visitor spend among GCC countries in 2025. The ambassador highlighted the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) scheme as a major driver of this growth, explaining that Kuwaitis made 148,854 applications between February 2024 and March 2025 - the second highest in the Gulf after Saudi Arabia.
