The interceptor, which is dubbed 'Barak Magen' – simply meaning "lightning shield" – is installed on the INS Sa'ar 6 missile ship of the Israeli Navy
Israel said it deployed its 'Barak Magen' aerial defence system and long-range air defence for the first time as it intercepted Iranian drones from its missile ships.
On Monday (June 16), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the navy's missile ships intercepted eight unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), or drones, launched from Iran. This was done using the 'Barak Magen' aerial defence system for the first time.
The interceptor, which is dubbed 'Barak Magen' – simply meaning 'lightning shield" in Hebrew – is installed on the INS Sa'ar 6 missile ship. According to the IDF, it is capable of countering a wide range of threats, including UAVs, cruise missiles, high-trajectory threats, shore-to-sea missiles, and more.
'Overnight, the Israeli Navy's missile ship flotilla intercepted eight UAVs launched from Iran. Since the beginning of the operation, it has intercepted approximately 25 unmanned aerial vehicles that posed a threat to the civilians of the State of Israel," the IDF said in a press release posted on their official website.
The IDF said the missile ships of Flotilla 3, in coordination with the Israeli air force, continue to be deployed 'across all arenas and serve as a force multiplier in the mission of defending the skies of Israel".
Iran reportedly sent over 100 UAVs on Monday, all of which were intercepted by Israel.
WHAT IS THE 'BARAK MAGEN'?
The 'Barak Magen' is a highly sophisticated and advanced aerial defence system developed by the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), which is capable of detecting and taking down a range of airborne threats.
John Hannah, senior fellow at the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA) told Fox News Digital that the Barak Magen 'significantly enhances" the air and missile defence architecture of the Israeli navy.
'The Barak Magen is simply another arrow in the expanding quiver of Israel's highly sophisticated and increasingly diverse multi-tiered missile defense architecture – which was already, by leaps and bounds, the most advanced and experienced air defense system fielded by any country in the world," Hannah was quoted.
According to information available, this latest air defence system has a mix of radar, command systems, and a set of smart vertical launchers, including short-range, medium-range, and long-range interceptors. They can all be launched from the ship to hit incoming threats from any direction. The missiles used are Barak MRAD for short and medium ranges (up to 35 km); Barak LRAD for medium to long ranges (up to 70 km); and Barak ER for extended ranges (up to 150 km).
The system's first live trial was in November 2022 aboard the INS Magen, which is a Sa'ar 6-class warship, as reported by military intelligence portal Janes.

Why Israel-Iran conflict may not immediately affect Indian military supplies

The ongoing Israel-Iran conflict may not have an immediate impact on Indian military hardware and maintenance support, except if it turns into another protracted conflict lasting several months, officials closely monitoring the conflict told The Indian Express on Sunday. 'The war is too new as of now to show any displayable impact on Indian military spares or hardware,' a senior military official said, adding that any diversion of weapons stock could take place in the instance of a long-drawn conflict. This is significant as India is actively working on replenishing much of its Israeli-origin weapons which were extensively used in Operation Sindoor against Pakistan last month. Over the last decade, India has purchased from Israel a range of military equipment and weapons including missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors and radars, air defence systems, and small arms. Many of these Israeli weapons and platforms—particularly loitering munitions and air defence systems—were used in Operation Sindoor launched by India inside Pakistan last month. This includes SkyStriker loitering munitions, Heron and Searcher UAVs, Derby Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missiles, SPICE 2000 guided bombs, Spike anti-tank guided missiles, Spyder surface-to-air missile system, Barak 8 air defence system, and Negev light machine guns and network radio communication equipment. Several Israeli companies have partnered and formed joint ventures with Indian companies and that will also help keep supplies to India going despite the war. 'A range of high-precision engineering companies in India carrying out contract manufacturing for Israelis is likely to ensure sustenance of Israeli-origin equipment remains unaffected,' an official said. This is in contrast with the impact another major ongoing global conflict—the long-drawn-out Russia-Ukraine war— initially had on Indian military spare supplies and delayed delivery schedule of the S-400 Triumf long-range surface-to-air missile system units. Officials explained this was because many of the big platforms in the Indian military such as fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, warships, air defence systems, and small arms are of soviet origin, requiring huge maintenance support from Russia, compared to the Israeli military hardware India has acquired over the years. The impact was significant even as India had started the maintenance of many Soviet-era military equipment indigenously. Another big factor that affected Russian military supplies to India was that the country was facing the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) in 2017. Russia was subjected to more stringent economic sanctions from the West after the war started. The Indian Air Force used the Israeli SPICE 2000 guided bombs in the Balakot air strikes in February 2019. The Army has procured advanced Heron drones from the country in the last two years to amplify surveillance along the Line of Actual Control amid the military standoff with China. According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Israel was the world's eighth largest arms exporter in 2020–24, accounting for 3.1 per cent of global arms exports. The single-largest importer of Israeli arms was India at 34 per cent, followed by the US at 13 per cent and the Philippines at 8.1 per cent.

Trump's Truth Social crashed moments after he announced strikes on Iranian nuclear strikes

Trump's social media platform Truth Social faced disruption across US soon after he posted about strikes on Iranian nuclear sites read more US President Donald Trump's Truth Social platform suffered a major outage early Sunday (June 22), moments after he announced the bombing of Iranian nuclear sites. Downdetector reported that thousands of users faced problems and experienced server issues while trying to access the social media platform on both Windows and mobile phones. The platform crashed soon after Trump posted this: 'We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran's airspace. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home." STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In a separate post, Trump wrote: 'Fordow is gone", referring to the underground nuclear facility near Natanz. The strikes followed the deployment of B-2 stealth bombers to Guam earlier on Saturday. In announcing the operation, President Trump confirmed that B-2 bombers executed the attacks, calling it a 'historic moment' for the US, Israel, and the global community, stressing that the strike was a critical step in addressing the ongoing regional crisis. What caused Truth Social to crash? Some screenshots posted by users showed that API (Application Programming Interfaces) congestion may have caused the disruption. It's a situation when the volume of requests being sent to an API exceeds its capacity to handle them efficiently, causing drop in performance quality. Simply put, it's a traffic jam for API requests. Despite Trump's massive popularity and following on all other social media platforms, he exclusively uses his Truth Social for making announcements and posts on issues of national and international importance. His stake in Truth Social's parent company TMTG has earned him a significant portion of his net worth. Just a few days back, the platform urged its users to following Trump by sending them an email. 'If you aren't following President Donald J. Trump on Truth Social, you're missing an essential resource for navigating world affairs today,' the e-mail read.

What Are B-2 Bombers, Bunker-Busters That US Used To Strike Iran Nuclear Sites

WASHINGTON: The US Air Force's B-2 Spirit stealth bombers were involved in strikes on Iran's nuclear sites on Saturday. Three Iranian nuclear sites were struck in a "very successful attack," President Donald Trump said on Saturday, adding that the crown jewel of Tehran's nuclear program, Fordow, is gone. The B-2 is one of America's most advanced strategic weapons platforms, capable of entering sophisticated air defenses and delivering precision strikes against hardened targets such as Iran's buried network of nuclear research facilities. B-2 SPIRIT SPECIFICATIONS: The U.S. B-2 costs about $2.1 billion each, making it the most expensive military aircraft ever built. Made by Northrop Grumman, the bomber, with its cutting-edge stealth technology, began its production run in the late 1980s but was curbed by the fall of the Soviet Union. Only 21 were made after the Pentagon's planned acquisition program was truncated. The bomber's range of over 6,000 nautical miles (11,112 km) without refueling enables global strike capabilities from continental U.S. bases. With aerial refueling, the B-2 can reach virtually any target worldwide, as demonstrated in missions from Missouri to Afghanistan and Libya and now Iran. Its payload capacity of more than 40,000 pounds (18,144 kg) allows the aircraft to carry a diverse array of conventional and nuclear weapons. The bomber's internal weapons bays are specifically designed to maintain stealth characteristics while accommodating large ordnance loads, which could include two GBU-57A/B MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator), a 30,000-pound precision-guided "bunker buster" bomb. Reports said six bunker buster bombs were used on Iran's Fordow research site. The B-2's two-pilot crew configuration reduces personnel requirements while maintaining operational effectiveness through advanced automation systems. The B-2's stealth technology incorporates radar-absorbing materials and angular design features that minimize detection by enemy air defense systems. Its radar cross-section is reportedly comparable to that of a small bird, making it nearly invisible to conventional radar. MASSIVE ORDNANCE PENETRATOR (MOP): The 30,000-pound MOP represents the largest conventional bomb in the U.S. arsenal, specifically engineered to defeat hardened underground bunkers. Its massive size requires the B-2 to carry only one or two MOPs per mission, but provides unmatched bunker-penetration capability. The weapon's 20.5-foot (6.25-m) length and GPS-guided precision targeting system enable accurate strikes against specific underground facilities. Its penetration capability of over 200 feet through hardened concrete makes it effective against the world's most protected underground installations. CONVENTIONAL PAYLOADS: Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) provide the B-2 with precision conventional strike capability against fixed targets. These GPS-guided weapons can be deployed in large numbers, with the bomber capable of simultaneously engaging multiple targets with high accuracy. Joint Standoff Weapons (JSOW) extend the aircraft's engagement range while maintaining stealth characteristics during approach. These glide bombs allow the B-2 to strike targets from outside heavily defended airspace perimeters. Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM) offer long-range precision strike capability with their own stealth features. The extended-range JASSM-ER variant provides strike options against targets over 500 miles (805 km) away. NUCLEAR PAYLOAD CAPABILITIES: The B-2 Spirit serves as a key component of America's nuclear triad, capable of delivering strategic nuclear weapons with stealth and precision. The aircraft can carry up to 16 B83 nuclear bombs.
