FATHER Ted co-creator Graham Linehan has been charged with criminal damage and harassment.
The five-time Bafta award winner, also known for writing The IT Crowd, Black Books and Motherland will appear in court on May 12.
It's believed the charges are related to an incident at the Battle of Ideas festival on October 19 last year.
Mr Linehan has had a longstanding history of criticising the trans-rights movement.
He told the Mirror: "This is part of a long history of the police acting as a goon squad for trans rights activists."
The award-winning writer also shared a post about the alleged victim adding: "I look forward to exposing him and them in court."

Leicester man jailed after raping woman while on bail for another charge

A man who raped two women while on bail for a similar charge has been jailed for 25 years. Leicester man Randy Ayor, 22, attacked one woman following his acquittal, then raped another victim while on bail for that attack. The first woman to accuse Ayor said he became friendly towards her before tricking her into going back to his flat after a night out with friends, where she says he raped and assaulted her. Ayor was ultimately acquitted of that charge, but within weeks of that, he sexually assaulted another woman, switching abruptly from being charming and caring to being violent, a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service said. When that victim came forward, the CPS brought charges against Ayor and asked the court to remand him to prison to protect other women, but he was instead released on bail. The first victim told detectives she had met Ayor in a city nightclub and that he raped her on several occasions, and strangled her to the point where she thought she was going to lose consciousness. While on bail, Ayor attacked a second woman, who said she was raped and strangled by Ayor, who took her phone and dictated who she could speak with and where she could go. She said he also became angry if she attempted to speak to other men, and discouraged her from spending time with her family at Christmas. Although Ayor was acquitted of raping the first woman who accused him, she was able to give her account to a jury again as 'bad character evidence' because her allegations were so similar to the other two women, prosecutors said. All three women described Ayor as being 'outwardly considerate and charming' at first, followed by an abrupt switch to violence, controlling behaviour and sexual abuse. In April, a jury at Leicester Crown Court convicted Ayor of one count of assault by penetration, five counts of rape and one count of strangulation against the first victim. According to the National Library of Medicine, in a study of homicide victims killed by intimate partners, 43% experienced non-fatal strangulation from their partner before their murder. In attempted homicides by an intimate partner, 45% of victims had been strangled before the attempted murder. Being strangled by a partner – even once – increases the risk of homicide by that person by over 600%. Against his second victim, he was convicted of one count of rape, one count of false imprisonment, two counts of actual bodily harm, one count of assault by beating and one count of controlling or coercive behaviour. He pleaded guilty to one count of strangulation against her. More Trending To protect future victims, the CPS applied to the court to sentence him as a dangerous offender, which means adding an extra period of up to eight years to the sentence he would normally get. Earlier this week, Ayor was given 22 years behind bars, extended by three years, making it 25 years behind bars. Charlotte Caulton-Scott, from CPS, said: 'Randy Ayor is a ruthless predator and a danger to women. He targeted women in vulnerable situations and used charm to deceive them. He manipulated multiple situations to trap his victims, assault them and rape them. 'Although Ayor was acquitted of crimes against her, the extraordinary resolve of the first complainant to give evidence in this trial, contributed to him facing the consequences of his abhorrent crimes.' "I was like, 'You know, I think I do actually!' And it was a really cool conversation, and then we were blown away like, I mean, it was like the best news we could have hoped for." He adds: "It's the biggest tour this year and it authenticates the legacy of Cast. This is a band in previous years if there was a Britpop list, top 20, we wouldn't even be in it. "You know, back in the day Oasis supported The Verve and then it flipped around and we supported Oasis at Earls Court, then I as a solo artist have played with Oasis." ‌ He went on to tell the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X: "I said to Noel, 'You know, I think I'm the only person who could go in this slot. Especially for a huge outdoor show, because everyone wants you lot. And unless you're coming with something, unless you've got something to offer, I don't know what's gonna happen'." Meghan Markle 'terrified' and scared for future as regretful Harry makes major decision over UK return

Meghan Markle is 'scared' to return to the UK and Harry is a 'huge target' Trooping the Colour 2025 marked another significant blow to relations within the Royal Family as Prince Harry steered clear. The Duke of Sussex was not in attendance at last weekend's celebration of the King's official birthday. Queen Camilla joined Charles, as well as Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children George,11, Charlotte,10, and seven year old Louis. Harry was last in the UK in May, where he suffered defeat at the High Court over his ongoing battle to have security measures reinstated for him and his family when they visit from the US. ‌ The Duke of Sussex then gave an interview, where he revealed he hoped to reunite with his father but he couldn't bring his family to the UK until wife Meghan Markle and kids Archie, two, and Lilibet, four, were guaranteed to be 'safe'. ‌ Now a royal expert claims it's not likely the youngsters will ever build up a close relationship with their cousins, or spend much time in the UK, because of Harry and Meghan's worries, writes the Mirror. Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe said: 'Meghan understandably feels scared about coming to the UK with the children. 'The threats are real and genuine. The threat is from lunatics, radical protesters that might want to make a name for themselves by jumping in front of them. Then of course you have the worst type, the terrorist threat. And there's no doubt Harry – and his family, as a result – is a huge target.' Former actress Meghan recently embarked on a change of direction in her career, with her recent eight-part Netflix show With Love, Meghan topping charts across the globe. Earlier today, she took to social media to share her delight as her lifestyle brand As Ever products once again sold out in minutes following an announcement of a restock earlier this week. ‌ She's also been pictured in recent months enjoying a Beyonce gig and shared intimate family moments from a holiday to Disneyland in a reel of posts to Instagram. Earlier this month she and Harry hit the headlines once again as they shared their viral Baby Momma dance clip which was filmed when she went into labour with Lilibet. But despite Meghan feeling 'stronger' than ever and sharing fun parts of her life with fans, she's still hugely worried about the safety of her nearest and dearest. ‌ A source told the Mirror: 'In some ways she's feeling stronger and she wants to share that. 'But she's still terrified of putting her kids at risk by coming back to the UK – any parent would panic if they were in Meghan's shoes. 'So even though Harry is really feeling the absence of his dad, especially after Trooping the Colour and Father's Day, the security stuff will probably always be an issue. ‌ 'He knows that things could've been so different if things had gone another way, but it's been five years since they left the UK and the chances of them coming back, even for a visit, seem slim to none. It's heartbreaking.' In May, Harry gave a controversial interview with the BBC in which he said he 'would love reconciliation' with his family. ‌ Duncan Larcombe reckons that the duke is probably 'full of regrets' now about being so candid. He added: 'Harry is a sensitive soul and always wore his heart on his sleeve, so whether he'd admit it publicly or not, I'm sure he's full of regrets and wishes he'd done things differently. ‌ 'With Trooping the Colour and Father's Day falling on the same weekend, it was bound to make him look back at the happy relationships he once had with his brother and dad, and I'm sure he'd love to be able to rebuild those.' Duncan also states that Princess Diana's death is something that is an ever-present thought for Meghan and Harry, as a 'contributing factor' to her horror crash in Paris in 1997 was the lack of official protection from the Metropolitan Police. The expert explains that official royal security is armed and round the clock, provided by top Met Police officers as well as MI5, who 'surround them in a ring'. He added: 'Without the official support and security, Harry and Meghan are left with two or three bodyguards who are pretty blind to what the potential threats are.'
