Ravindra Jadeja reached a major milestone last Thursday, completing 1,151 days as the top-ranked Test all-rounder--the longest reign in ICC history for any all-rounder. He was also included in the ICC Test Team of the Year for 2024.
In the latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings, Jadeja sits comfortably at the top with 400 points. He is ahead of second-ranked Mehidy Hasan Miraz of Bangladesh with 327 points.
Jadeja has made history by becoming the world's longest-serving No. 1 Test all-rounder. This historic feat is ahead of many legendary names as Jacques Kallis and Kapil Dev.
Jadeja's consistent performances over the last few years have enabled him to achieve this milestone. He alone has scored 527 runs at an average of 29.27 in the year 2024 and has picked up 48 wickets at an average of 24.29. These statistics speak volumes about how valuable he is both with bat and ball.
Jadeja's rise to dominance in Test cricket has been nothing short of remarkable. Known for his sharp left-arm spin, electric fielding, and increasingly reliable batting, he has become a pillar of India's red-ball setup. Staying at the top of the ICC all-rounder rankings for over three years speaks volumes for his match-winning impact. (ANI)

Explained: Here's why Shubman Gill faces ICC sanction after Day 1 of Headingley Test

Shubman Gill celebrated his appointment as India Test captain with an unbeaten 127 on the opening day of the first Test against England in Headingley. That, however, wasn't the only reason why the 25-year-old made headlines on Friday. read more India captain Shubman Gill bats on the opening day of the first Test against England in Headingley. Reuters Shubman Gill celebrated his appointment as India Test captain with a century on Friday, the opening day of the first Test against England in Headingley, Leeds. Gill remained unbeaten on 127 – becoming only the fifth Indian to score a ton on debut as Test captain – as India posted a commanding 359/3 on the board after Ben Stokes, his English counterpart, opted to field. His sixth Test hundred, however, wasn't the only reason why Shubman Gill made headlines on Friday, with the India skipper facing the prospect of ICC action for wearing black socks to the crease, which is in violation of ICC's rules regarding clothing and equipment that came into effect in May 2023. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD What ICC's rules state regarding items of clothing, including socks According to clause 19.45 of ICC's Clothing and Equipment Rules, players are permitted to wear socks only in the following colours in Test cricket: white, cream, or light grey. The same colours are permitted ODIs along with the colour of the team's trousers. How many of you have been fined for wearing black socks before? 😅 — Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) June 20, 2025 Will Shubman Gill get fined over black socks? Whether Gill ends up paying a fine or not rests entirely on match referee Richie Richardson. The India skipper could escape sanction if it turns out his decision wasn't a deliberate one, and was because of wet socks or some other reason. However, Gill faces a Level 1 offence – in which players receive a fine of up to 50 per cent of their match fees with the possibility of a demerit point – if it turns out he deliberately wore black socks to the crease after lunch on Day 1. Senior India batter KL Rahul and former England captain Joe Root have previously been fined under ICC's Clothing and Equipment rules. Rahul was found to be wearing a helmet that did not comply with safety and approval standards during the one-off Test against Afghanistan in 2018, which resulted in a 10 per cent fine. Root, on the other hand, was fined 15 per cent of his match fees for wearing a jersey with a rainbow-coloured emblem in support of the LGBTQ+ community during the 2021 Test series against India. If found guilty, Gill faces a fine in the same range – between 10 to 20 per cent of his match fees. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Watch: Rahul Bows Down To Rishabh Pant With Folded Hands After Leeds Masterclass

Last Updated: KL Rahul hilariously bowed down to Rishabh Pant after the latter returned from his brilliant 65-run knock against England at Headingley. KL Rahul welcomed Rishabh Pant with folded hands and a bow of respect as the wicketkeeper-batter returned to the pavilion carrying his bat after his brilliant half-century against England on the first day of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy at Headingley, Leeds. A video of the moment has now gone viral on social media. It was seen in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s behind-the-scenes clip of the dressing room after captain Shubman Gill and Pant returned at Stumps. Gill remained unbeaten at 127 off 175 with Pant at 65 off 102 as India put up a solid 359/3 in the first three sessions. Rahul, Shardul Thakur and other players were lined up in the corridor outside the Indian dressing room as the duo walked up the stairs to applause. They escorted them inside, where head coach Gautam Gambhir and other staff and players welcomed them with hugs. Watch the video here: The foundations of the innings were laid by openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 off 159) and Rahul (42 off 78). The latter got out trying to drive a wide half-volley against Brydon Carse through covers, edging it to slips. But that didn't stop him from being at the forefront of supporting his teammates. 'It seems like that's how he plays," Gavaskar said on Sony Sports. 'When he comes in to bat, on the second or third ball, he often uses his feet and hits a boundary. It makes him feel free and then allows him to play the way he wants. Over here, he's been measured in his approach—giving himself time out in the middle. But once he's in and the bowlers start to tire, that's when he begins to step down the pitch and really attack, hitting big shots, sixes, and boundaries," he added. The partnership is currently at 138 and India will aim to extend their dominance on Day 2. First Published: June 21, 2025, 08:04 IST
