Jazwell Brown's victim talks to BBC about 'traumatising' attack
Bradley Latter's fiancé Teohna Grant was murdered, along with another woman, in a brutal attack by drug-fuelled Jazwell Brown on Christmas Day in Milton Keynes. Mr Latter has spoken with the BBC about the "traumatising" events of that day and the effect it has had on his life.
It was early evening in a block of flats when Bradley Latter saw Jazwell Brown walking down the hall with a baseball bat in his hand.He did not think anything of it as his neighbour would regularly walk into their home in Santa Cruz Avenue, Bletchley, in Milton Keynes. But then he heard a scream from his fiancée Teohna Grant and was pushed back into the living room as Brown began to stab him repeatedly with a knife. It was a brutal attack in which his partner died, along with their neighbour Joanne Pearson.
Recalling the events of that evening the 30-year-old said that "it felt like an eternity but it couldn't have been longer than a second before I realised what was happening"."I did not know I was being stabbed at the time. I could just feel a pressure and a sort of cold feeling up towards my shoulder."He said his "objective was Teohna" as he did not know where she was and he hoped she had got out of their flat. "I just wanted to keep him [Brown] there as long as possible so she could get away."Ms Grant managed to crawl to the balcony of their flat and attempted to get help, but was attacked again by Brown. The 24-year-old died at the scene, having been repeated stabbed. Brown, who had been smoking crack cocaine, was given a life sentence with a minimum of 39 years for the murders of his partner Joanne Pearson, 38, and Ms Grant on December 25, 2024. The 49-year-old also admitted attempting to murder his son, Jake Brown, 18, and Mr Latter.
During the attack Mr Latter said he kept asking, "Why are you doing this? What have I done?"Brown was staring directly at him but there was no expression – "Just a blank stare."Mr Latter told the BBC how he remembered feeling weaker due to the blood loss. "I did the only thing I could think at the time and I fell to the floor and played dead," he added. He then noticed Brown walking out and he ran to the door and through the keyhole he saw his neighbour, Ms Pearson, face down.Mr Latter picked his phone up he was surprised it unlocked as it was covered in blood but he managed to call 999.
After making his way downstairs "one officer came running in and that image haunts me. She saw me and froze".He told the BBC he had suffered 20 stab wounds to the neck during the onslaught but it is the emotional consequences that he is still struggling to deal with. "It is the nightmares which are the worst – replaying the events over and over again... and I do not think they are going to stop," he said. He added that still living in the flat where his partner was murdered "is just traumatising by itself, especially being alone most days"."Nothing I can do can bring Teohna back but I have to live for her," Mr Latter said.
Mr Latter is now calling for police need to be given powers to deal with knife crime more robustly, along with additional funding for more rehabilitation centres. "People need to understand it is not cool [to carry a knife], it is not protection. "It is just not worth someone's life. Police are there for a reason whether people like it or not."Mr Latter said he loved to work but now he feels "useless" and that his "entire independence has been taken away".He added: "The moment I lay down and become depressed, in a way he [Brown] has won."

Illicit cannabis vapes may contain a deadly opioid that is 20 times more powerful than fentanyl, a coroner has warned. The potent drug presents a 'significant' risk of overdose as the level ingested by inhalation could 'vary enormously', according to Sarah Bourke, the Inner North London assistant coroner. She found vape users may be unaware that nitazene, a synthetic pain reliever, could be present and are unlikely to have access to the antidote naloxone. The warning came following the death of Frederick Ireland-Rose, who overdosed on a cannabis vape laced with the drug in September last year. The 30-year-old was using marijuana to withdraw from opiates and ordered liquid refills online, an inquest heard. After he was found unresponsive at home with a vape in his hand, paramedics initially managed to resuscitate him, but he never regained consciousness and died in hospital a few days later. More potent than fentanyl A toxicologist told the inquest a specific form of nitazene, estimated to be around 20 times more potent than the synthetic opioid fentanyl, was found in Mr Ireland-Rose's blood. Summarising their findings in a Prevention of Future Deaths Report, Ms Bourke said: 'Mr Ireland-Rose was known to purchase cannabinoid vaping fluids online from unknown sources outside the UK.' N-pyrrolidino isotonitazene was found at a level of 0.37 ng/ml in a sample of his blood, she added. 'The toxicologist reported that this is 'a potent synthetic opioid' which is 'thought to be similar or greater in potency to isotonitazene, which is estimated to be approximately 20 times more potent than fentanyl',' she said. 'The toxicologist also reported that 'nitazenes are illicit synthetic opioids which have recently emerged in the heroin supply in the UK'.' There was no evidence to suggest Mr Ireland-Rose used street heroin before his death, the coroner added. Nitazenes detected in refillable vapes She said: 'The toxicologist confirmed that nitazenes can be ingested from a vape and that they have been detected in refillable vapes and vapes bought illicitly.' Fentanyl and other synthetic opioids have caused a decade-long drug overdose epidemic in the US, with annual deaths rising from 2,600 in 2011 to 70,601 in 2021. The inquest heard Mr Frederick-Rose had been opiate-free for 10 days when he was found unconscious on Sept 15 last year. After he was resuscitated, he was taken to hospital, where a CT scan revealed a severe brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen, which was 'not compatible with extended life'. He died on Sept 19. Ms Bourke concluded that his death was drug-related and recorded the cause of death as a hypoxic brain injury and acute opioid toxicity.

Ex reality star charged with murder after her partner was found dead in a unit
A woman who starred on Beauty and the Geek has been charged with murder after a man's body was discovered in a home in Port Lincoln, South Australia. Emergency services were called to the property on Flinders Highway at about 3:25pm local time on Thursday following reports of a small fire. When crews arrived, they found a man dead inside the residence. A 34-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder. The Courier Mail reported on Friday that the woman was once a contestant on reality show Beauty and the Geek. South Australia Police have confirmed the victim and the accused were known to each other and had been in a relationship. The woman was refused police bail and remains in custody. Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Branch and officers from the Forensic Response Section were flown into Port Lincoln to assist local authorities with the investigation. 'I can reassure members of the community that this is not a random incident,' SA Police State Operations Service Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott told reporters. 'We understand that the female who has been arrested and the deceased male both lived at this address,' he said. 'It is still very early stages of this investigation and it's likely that the Major Crime investigators and the forensic response members will be there most of today.' Assistant Commissioner Parrott said a cause of death had not yet been determined and no further details could be released, as the victim's family had not yet been notified. The woman did not apply for bail and has been detained under the Mental Health Act. She is expected to return to court in December. A suppression order preventing the publication of any information that could identify the woman, the victim, or the specific details surrounding the man's death was issued. The suppression order is set to be reviewed by the court next week.
