Sidrah 4.0 opens applications: Calling Oman's next generation of women leaders
Muscat – Sidrah 4.0, the celebrated youth leadership initiative designed to inspire and equip young Omani women, has officially opened applications. Since its inception in June 2022, Sidrah has supported over 169 graduates from 11 governorates, who have gone on to launch projects, step into management roles, and contribute meaningfully in multiple ways.
Co-designed and co-delivered by Lahunna Oman in collaboration with Outward Bound Oman, Sidrah 4.0 seeks Omani women aged 20-33 from across the Sultanate of Oman. This three-month program offers a blend of immersive outdoor experiences, engaging workshops, mentorship, online courses, and professional coaching, closely aligning with Oman's Vision 2040 priorities.
"Sidrah offers Omani women the tools, confidence, and inspiration to shape their futures and drive positive change in their communities," said Shatha Al Maskiry, Founder of Lahunna Oman. "We're excited to welcome a new group of ambitious young women ready to embrace this transformative journey.'

"We look forward to hosting a new group of young Omani women in our Jabal Akhdar training centre where they will embark on an immersive and inspiring educational and training journey through the Sidrah program. The Inspiration behind Sidrah
The program draws its name from the local Sidr tree - a symbol of strength and adaptability located across various environments - with some specimens in Oman dating over 350 years. When the roots of the Sidr come across a barrier, they twist and turn to overcome it, adjusting beautifully and resiliently, just as the program's participants will find within themselves the flexibility and strength to adapt and grow over the course of this unique experiential journey. Furthermore, the traditional choice for an innovative program represents the strong link between the participants' glorious past and their promising future.

Oman likely to award Port Sultan Qaboos upgade consultancy in Q4 2025
Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is expected to award the consultancy tender for the upgrade of Port Sultan Qaboos in Muscat in the fourth quarter of 2025, a source aware of the details said. The tender, released on 12 June 2025, calls for technical bids by 24 July and commercial bids by 10 August. 'The consultancy services contract for the construction of a breakwater, a fixed quay, and reclamation works at the Port is expected to be awarded in October 2025,' the source said, adding that completion timeline is the first quarter of 2027. As of 23 June 2025, a total of 14 local and international firms had purchased the tender documents. The contract scope includes: Project and contract management services Site assessments covering access, utilities, and environmental and social impact Concept master planning Preparation of EPC tender documents for construction Optional services include managing investment opportunity bids, bid evaluations, design review, and construction supervision. Personal income tax comes into effect in Oman from January 1, 2028
Oman's first Personal Income Tax Law, which will affect only 1 per cent of its high-earning population, will come into effect from January 1, 2028. The new Personal Income Tax Law contributes to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 by diversifying income sources and reducing reliance on oil revenues. The targets set are 15 per cent of GDP by 2030 and 18 per cent by 2040. The law, issued by Royal Decree No 56/2025 (consisting of 76 articles across 16 chapters), will apply a 5 per cent tax rate on individuals earning over OMR42,000 (USD109,230/AED401,160) annually. It also includes deductions and exemptions for social considerations in Oman, such as education, healthcare, inheritance, zakat, donations, primary housing, and other factors. The Authority added that the new tax system follows an in-depth study assessing its economic and social impact, based on income data from various government entities. It led to the establishment of a carefully considered exemption threshold, which ensures that approximately 99 per cent of Oman's population will not be subject to this tax. Karima Mubarak Al Saadi, Director of the Personal Income Tax Project, confirmed that all necessary preparations and requirements for implementing the tax have been completed. Speaking to Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Saadi said that an electronic system has been developed by the Tax Authority to promote voluntary compliance and has been linked with the departments concerned to ensure accurate income calculation and verification of tax declarations. The Tax Authority has also strengthened its workforce through specialised training programs in line with the tax implementation requirements. The Authority said the new tax aims to promote wealth redistribution among societal segments, enhancing social justice, while supporting the state budget and specifically financing part of the social protection system.

Oman LNG signs pact for methanation pilot plant pre-FEED
Oman LNG has signed an agreement with Japan's Kanadevia Corporation to conduct a pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) for a methanation pilot plant and a detailed concept study for a future commercial-scale facility. The project aligns with Oman's target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through the adoption of clean energy solutions such as carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) and methanation, according to Oman News Agency. The proposed facility is expected to produce 18,000 normal cubic meters of e-methane per hour. The concept study will cover technical and commercial evaluations, while the Pre-FEED will focus on the pilot plant, which is expected to produce 1,200 normal cubic meters of e-methane per hour. The pilot plant will comprise three components: a seawater desalination unit, equipment for producing hydrogen via water electrolysis, and a methanation system that combines hydrogen with captured CO2 to produce e-methane. During the Pre-FEED phase, the project will conduct detailed design studies and cost estimations for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), the report said. The agreement follows the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Oman and Japan in March 2024, covering collaboration in hydrogen, fuel ammonia, and carbon recycling.
