I like Club World Cup individual walk ons

BBC News3 days ago

Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia says he likes the Club World Cup individual walkouts as he bids to overcome his injury issues. The 21-year-old started the 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC in Chelsea's opening match of the newly expanded tournament in the United States. Before kick-off, as with the other matches at Fifa's tournament, each individual player was announced and walked out separately at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. When asked about the experience, Lavia said he liked it: "I think it's something special and new for us. It's a first for us. I enjoyed it. Why not bring it to the Premier League?"He added: "I mean, it's a bit of a showbiz thing, isn't it? I quite like it. The only difference is [if we did it in the Premier League], we might get a bit cold because once you're out there, you have to wait for maybe the other players. "But apart from that, it was good. I guess we always learn new things from international tournaments and that's what makes it special."Defender Tosin Adarabioyo also spoke of the entrances and laughed as he said: "It's something new! We buy into it. We've not done it before so it's a new experience for us all."Lavia faces new competition after Chelsea signed Dario Essugo from Sporting while also recalling another midfielder in Andrey Santos from his successful loan spell at Strasbourg. "It's what is needed for the club of this level, so it's all healthy," said Lavia."We all have great connections together. It's just about doing our best every day, and then the manager must decide who he wants to pick, but all the players are going to be ready."But Lavia also needs to improve on his fitness record having made just one substitute appearance in his first season at Stamford Bridge and a further 19 appearances this season, meaning he has missed more matches than he has been available for.Lavia was then asked whether he hopes to ever emulate Moises Caicedo's feat of starting in all 38 Premier League matches and said: "I'm doing everything possible to stay fit, and playing as many games as possible."I think the biggest 'credit' a footballer can have is to be available. It's definitely something I'm aware of. "So I do everything possible to stay fit. Honestly, all the injuries I have had before, I just want to put them behind me and look forward to the future feeling good. So I don't know why I should be thinking about the injuries."

Manchester City vs Al Ain predictions: Club World Cup tips and odds

Our expert has three tips for the Club World Cup contest between Manchester City and Al Ain at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia (2am Monday BST kick-off). We think the Light Blues will rack up the goals against their UAE Pro League counterparts. Manchester City vs Al Ain tips Manchester City -2 goals on handicap @ 4/5 with Sky Bet Phil Foden to score @ 5/4 with Sky Bet Over 1.5 first-half goals @ evens with Sky Bet Odds courtesy of Sky Bet. City unlikely to hold back The Premier League side comfortably justified being tipped as favourites in a 2-0 win over Moroccan club Wydad in their first game at the Club World Cup. Now they have settled into the tournament, they could have an even more comprehensive victory over Al Ain. City took the lead after just two minutes in their Group G opener, dominating the affair in Philadelphia, and they look overpriced at -2 goals on the handicap – in other words to win by at least three goals – against Al Ain at 4/5. Debutants Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki looked sharp and there are plenty of City players waiting in the wings and wanting to impress boss Pep Guardiola. Al Ain were destroyed 5-0 by Juventus last time out, conceding all those goals by the 58th minute, and could have a tough time against an even stronger City outfit. Foden can net again Midfielder Phil Foden did not enjoy his best season in a City shirt last season but he started his Club World Cup campaign on the front foot, impressing as the team's key creative outlet in their victory over Wydad. Foden scored and assisted in the game but also managed four shots, three of which were on target, and he is a good bet to score at 5/4 against Al Ain. Guardiola could make sweeping changes for this contest but Foden will surely keep his spot after finally showing some form. He can profit if the floodgates open. Fast start again from Guardiola's men The Light Blues scored both of their goals in victory over Wydad before the interval, and over 1.5 first-half goals appeals again at evens with Sky Bet. It was evident from City's approach that they wanted to get the game against Wydad wrapped up quickly in order to rotate personnel, and the same could be true in this contest. Guardiola's side are typically fast starters anyway, netting a league-high 41 first-half goals in last season's Premier League, and Al Ain were 3-0 down after just 31 minutes against Juventus in their tournament opener. Club World Cup predictions: Saturday group-stage tips and odds

Our expert has tips for all four of Saturday's Club World Cup matches, including Mamelodi Sundowns versus Bundesliga big guns Borussia Dortmund in Cincinnati. Already signed up to BoyleSports? Check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. Mamelodi Sundowns vs Borussia Dortmund (Cincinnati, 5pm BST) The German outfit underwhelmed against an ageing Fluminense defence in their Club World Cup opener, but they should get their first win on the board against Mamelodi Sundowns in Cincinnati. The South African side won their first game of the competition 1-0 against the South Korean Ulsan HD to go top of Group F – but Dortmund, who finished last season with six straight wins, will represent a significant step-up in quality. Mamelodi could have chances on the break given that Dortmund play with such a high line. With their Bundesliga fixtures averaging 3.59 goals per game last term, a win for Die Schwarzgelben and over 2.5 goals is the way to go at 10/11. Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Diamonds (Seattle, 8pm BST) New Inter Milan boss Cristian Chivu made it clear he will not be making any drastic changes at the club after replacing Simone Inzaghi, having used a compact 3-5-2 formation in his side's opening 1-1 draw with Monterrey at the Club World Cup. The Mexicans managed just one shot on target against the Italians, who should be tight and difficult to break down in this tournament, so an Inter Milan win to nil appeals at 20/23 when they take on the Japanese club. Urawa lost 3-1 to the Argentine River Plate in their first match of the tournament, but their only goal came from the penalty spot and they were wasteful with their chances. They have scored just 26 goals in 21 games in the J1 League this season and are unlikely to cause Inter many problems. Fluminense vs Ulsan HD (East Rutherford, New Jersey, 11pm Saturday BST) In their draw with Borussia Dortmund, all the talk surrounding Fluminense was about their goalkeeper and defence with the five starters having a combined age of 178. But they do have some quality in the middle – and with no prolific scorer in attack, their midfielder Matheus Martinelli is worth a bet to net against Ulsan HD at 11/2. He has scored just once in the Brazilian Serie A this season but was lively last time out, managing three shots in his 75 minutes on the pitch. Having also scored in the Copa Sudamericana this season, he is overpriced to find the net in a match that Fluminense should win. River Plate vs Monterrey (Pasadena, 2am Sunday BST) The Argentinians were deserving of their 3-1 win over Urawa Red Diamonds in their first game at the Club World Cup and they can secure their spot in the last 16 with a win over Monterrey. River Plate dominated, and the first goal in particular was an excellent piece of play with Real Madrid-bound starlet Franco Mastantuono opening the game up in midfield. They will be missing striker Sebastian Driussi for the rest of the tournament after he picked up an injury when scoring last time out, but Miguel Borja is a capable deputy. Monterrey were solid but unspectacular against Inter Milan and, despite scoring a header, Sergio Ramos looked unconvincing at times throughout the match. They could only finish seventh in Liga MX's Torneo Clausura last season and River Plate are overpriced at 21/20 to win.
