Pennies become history in U.S. as Treasury Department places final order, expected to run out by 2026
The US Treasury Department will cease penny production after its final penny blank order runs out in early 2026. This decision comes as the cost to manufacture each penny, primarily due to rising zinc prices, now exceeds its face value, costing 3.7 cents to produce.

After more than two centuries in Americans' pockets, the penny will finally be on its way out, as US Treasury Department has confirmed it placed its last order for penny blanks this month, with the United States Mint aiming to stop manufacturing the penny when the latest order runs out, as per a report. The Wall Street Journal predicted that the last batch of the blanks, which are flat, metal discs that the US Mint converts into coins, will run out in early 2026, reported CBS News. The decision was made because now the cost of making a penny is more than its own value. According to CBS News, the penny, which had been launched during the early days of the US Mint after its establishment in 1792, as of 2024, cost around 3.7 cents to manufacture and distribute, as per the US Mint's 2024 annual report. The US Treasury revealed that, by ending production of the penny, it would save the Mint around $56 million in annual savings, as per CBS News. The penny is made of zinc, with its distinctive appearance coming from a copper overlay, Zinc's cost per metric tonne had more than doubled from its price in 2000, as per the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis data, reported CBS News. This comes after the Trump administration had recently indicated that it planned to stop making the 1-cent coin, as per the report. Even billionaire Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency said in January that the penny was too expensive to produce and in February, US president Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social, "For far too long the United States has minted pennies which literally cost us more than 2 cents. This is so wasteful!" adding "I have instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing new pennies," as quoted in the report.Yes, the Treasury Department has confirmed that once the final supply of penny blanks runs out in 2026, production will stop.Because each penny now costs more than 3.5 cents to make, mainly due to rising material costs, especially zinc.

What is Turkey planning to do with Iran? Invites air force of this country amid Israel Iran war, the country is...
New Delhi: Turkey seems to be ahead of Pakistan in duplicity. Just as on one hand Pakistan talks about standing with Iran and on the other hand Army Chief Asim Munir meets Trump, something similar is being seen on the issue of Turkey. Turkey is currently hosting the summit of the Organization of Muslim Countries (OIC), in which the biggest issue is going to be the Iran Israel war and Palestine. But Turkey is also going to conduct war exercises with Israel's closest friend and ally, the United States. Joint military exercise The US Defense Department's media service said that the US will join NATO allies in the multinational air force exercise organized by Turkey/Turkiye from June 23 to July 4. Fighter jets of the US 31st Fighter Wing stationed at Aviano Airbase in Italy will take part in the 'Anatolian Eagle 25' drill, which will be held at the third main jet base in the central Turkish city of Konya. The USA is already increasing its presence in the Middle East and is likely preparing to attack Iran if any situation arises. In such a situation, Turkey's invitation to the US army for war exercises on its land can become a cause of concern for Iran because America can take advantage of this to attack Iran. Advantage for America Not only America but the air forces of many countries are participating in this drill, the purpose of this drill is to improve operational coordination through joint combat training in realistic conditions. Brigadier General Tad D. Clark, commander of the 31st Fighter Wing, said that the exercises provide 'real high-level training and strengthen the ability of allied forces to work together.' This exercise is taking place at a time when instability remains in the Middle East, the Israel-Iran conflict is in its second week and there is a fear of it spreading to neighbouring areas. Turkey pushing Syria back At present, the Israeli Air Force is attacking Iran using Syria's airspace. Syria has a Turkish-backed Al Sharaa government. According to reports, Turkey has instructed Syria to stay away from the Israel-Iran war. In such a situation, questions are being raised on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan whether he really wants to become the leader of Muslims or has some other agenda.

B-2 stealth bombers take off from US as Donald Trump weighs Iran strike
The moves, picked up by flight tracking services on Saturday, indicate that the administration is getting the Air Force bombers in position if needed for a strike on Iran Bloomberg B-2 stealth bombers have taken off from the US and are headed over the Pacific, multiple news outlets reported, as President Donald Trump weighs American involvement in the war between Israel and Iran. The moves, picked up by flight tracking services on Saturday, indicate that the administration is getting the Air Force bombers in position if needed for a strike on Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported. The planes, accompanied by refueling tankers, may be on their way to a base in Guam, according to the report. Speculation about a potential US strike aimed at Iran's nuclear program has focused on the B-2s, which would be needed to drop 30,000-pound bombs — so-called bunker busters — if Trump decided to target Iran's heavily fortified uranium enrichment site at Fordow. Israel, which is seeking to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities, does not have such weapons. Multiple B-2s appeared to be airborne and heading across the Pacific from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, the New York Times reported. The Times cited flight trackers' posts on social media and air traffic control communications. The Pentagon and the White House didn't immediately return messages seeking comment. Trump's is scheduled to return to the White House Saturday and meet with his national security team. The US president has sent mixed signals, discounting European efforts to secure a diplomatic solution between Israel and Iran while keeping possible US involvement in the conflict on the table. 'I'm giving them a period of time,' Trump told reporters Friday. 'I would say two weeks would be the maximum.'
