's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC). The alleged kingpin of this
drug cartel
is Naveen Chichkar, son of builder Gurunath Chichkar who shot himself in the head at his Belapur office last week.
On April 14, an ANC team, acting on a tipoff about a drug deal being carried out in a terrace flat in Nerul's Sector 15, conducted a raid and seized 17.2gm of hydro ganja worth Rs 2.8 lakh, said DCP (crime) Amit Kale. The flat owner Ashish Gaware (22) and Ahmed Aulagi (23) were arrested, but their aide Akash Maurya escaped.

During interrogation, the duo said they had procured the drugs from former hockey player Sujit Bangera and alleged peddler Sahil Lambe (27). The two Nerul residents were then arrested. Bangera and Lambe allegedly smuggled the hydro ganja from Thailand via flights. Once the contraband arrived at Mumbai airport, it would be cleared by customs clearing agent Kamal Chandwani (56) and customs superintendent Prashant Gaur (40). Chandwani and Gaur, both Kharghar residents, have been arrested. Kale said, "During probe, we found that Kharghar police constable Sandeep Bhalerao (40) was communicating with Chandwani for the past six months, and ANC unit constable Sanjay Phulkar (36) was in touch with Bhalerao since the cartel bust. The two cops were arrested on Sunday."
The cash obtained by Ban-gera and Chandwani from the drug sale was routed to Thailand through Vashi-based angadias Ankit Patel and Rinkunkumar Patel who converted it into cryptocurrency, Kale said, adding that they too have been arrested.
ANC senior inspector Sandeep Nigade said that Naveen, who is operating either from Thailand or Malaysia, is also wanted by Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau in the Rs 1,000 crore drug seizure case in March and a red-corner notice has been issued against him.
On April 25, builder Chichkar died by suicide and left behind a note in which he alleged being 'harassed' by cops who repeatedly summoned him for inquiry into the drug cases filed against his sons Naveen and Dhiraj.

Jaikrishn trapped as part of a political conspiracy: BAP
Over a month and a half after Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Jaikrishn Patel was caught allegedly taking a Rs 20 lakh bribe, the party said Sunday that it has concluded in its internal investigation that he was trapped as part of a 'political conspiracy'. Party's national president Mohan Lal Roat told The Indian Express that there are plenty of things pointing towards a political conspiracy. 'There are discrepancies in the press conference by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (following Patel's arrest) and the FIR lodged in the case. It is said there were about 48 calls between the two (MLA Patel and complainant Ravindra Kumar). But our MLA replied 1-2 times but most of the calls were by him (Kumar).' Next, Roat questioned the idea of money being given in lieu of 'withdrawing' three Assembly questions when two of these were already answered last year and were in the public domain. 'What was the idea behind taking money to 'withdraw' the questions put up in July last year, when the government had clearly and promptly answered those questions.' Party MP Rajkumar Roat too has questioned the circumstances, saying, 'Since 1952, there must have been about 3,000 MLAs in Rajasthan; excluding those who repeated, there must have been 2,000 to 2,500 MLAs so far in the state. But this was the first time an MLA was trapped. From what our team has investigated, he was trapped as part of a conspiracy.' 'The person on the other end called 40-42 times. Why would the person, who was the MLA candidate for the now ruling party, get scared and give a bribe to the MLA of a regional party? This was planning and this was a conspiracy,' the MP said, referring to complainant Ravindra Kumar's father Ramniwas Meena. While Ravindra Kumar had contested 2023 Assembly elections from Karauli as a BSP candidate and stood third – behind BJP and Congress candidates – his father, Ramniwas Meena and co-owner of the mines, had contested the 2023 election from Todabhim on a BJP ticket but lost to Congress's Ghanshyam Mahar. On May 4, first-time MLA Patel, and a middleman Vijay Patel were arrested by the ACB for allegedly accepting a Rs 20-lakh bribe – the second instalment of a Rs 2.5 crore bribe – in lieu of withdrawing Assembly questions on mining. The ACB had said this was the first instance of it arresting an MLA in the state, and the mines in question are in Todabhim, about 600 kilometres away from the MLA's constituency in Banswara. Party chief Roat said that things would be clearer once they get to meet the MLA. 'We haven't been able to meet the MLA. They are not giving us time to meet, (but once this happens) this will help us clear more things. Moreover, the BJP candidate too had said that he won't let him (Patel) stay around for more than six months,' he said, referring to BJP leader Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya. 'So, due to all of this, we have concluded that he was trapped as part of a conspiracy,' the party chief said. Malviya was elected from Bagidora Assembly in 2023 on a Congress ticket but had left the party to join the BJP last year. He had then unsuccessfully contested the Banswara Lok Sabha (which includes Bagidora Assembly) against BAP's Rajkumar Roat. In the Bagidora bypoll too, BAP's Jaikrishn had defeated BJP's Subhash Tamboliya by a convincing margin of over 51,000 votes. The party's five-member team which investigated the case included party's three MLAs Umesh Meena (Aaspur), Thavar Chand (Dhariyawad), Anil Kumar Katara (Chorasi), party's national spokesperson Jitendra Meena, and party leader Kanti Bhai. MP Roat also said that Patel was 'trapped by people in power as part of a conspiracy. And the people have understood, because the Panchayat Samiti seat which the BJP had won earlier with 600 votes, lost in the by-election. The people have given a befitting reply.' 'We know that if he has made a mistake then his membership might be terminated. But we will have more clarity only once we meet him, and what is said in the chargesheet etc,' party's national president Mohan Lal Roat said.

Amit Shah vows no respite for Maoists during monsoon, reiterates 2026 deadline
RAIPUR: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday declared that anti-Naxal operations will continue unabated during the monsoon season, denying insurgents the traditional seasonal pause and asserting that the government is committed to eradicating Left-Wing Extremism by March 31, 2026. Union home minister Amit Shah addresses the gathering during the e-inauguration of National Forensic Science University, in Raipur on Sunday. (@vishnudsai X) Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stones for the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) campus and a Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, Shah ruled out any talks with Maoists and urged them to surrender and join the national mainstream. 'This time, we will not let Maoists rest during the monsoon. We are moving forward towards our target of eliminating Maoist by March 31, 2026,' Shah said. Shah said that over 400 Maoists have been killed since January last year in Chhattisgarh, including top leader Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, general secretary of the banned CPI (Maoist), who was gunned down in Bastar in May. Appealing to Maoists, Shah said, 'There's no need for dialogue. Lay down your arms and join the path of development. Those who have surrendered will get all promised support from both the Centre and the state government.' Highlighting the government's push for criminal justice reform, Shah emphasised that the implementation of three new laws — Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam — would make India's legal system faster, more scientific, and evidence-based. 'Every FIR, from any corner of India, will ensure justice within three years — up to the Supreme Court level. The era of justice based on emotions and imagination is over; evidence-based justice is the future,' he said. He added that forensic teams will now be mandatorily involved in all crimes attracting punishments of more than seven years. The NFSU campus in Nava Raipur, to be developed at a cost of ₹ 145 crore, and the CFSL worth ₹ 123 crore, are expected to be completed within three years. Shah said the forensic education sector is booming globally, and India's youth should seize the opportunity. 'The global forensic technology market is projected to grow from $20 billion to 55 billion dollars by 2036. India's share could be around 9 percent. With 32,000 forensic experts graduating each year, we will be self-reliant,' he noted. Currently, Chhattisgarh has four regional forensic labs in Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Jagdalpur. The addition of a central lab in Nava Raipur will eliminate the need to send samples to Delhi. Shah also inaugurated the i-Hub High Hope initiative and the NFSU transit campus at Sejbahar virtually. He highlighted the importance of fostering local entrepreneurship for true industrial transformation in the state. 'Investment from outside is welcome, but Chhattisgarh will only truly develop when its own youth become industrialists and startup founders,' he said, stressing the need for a culture of industrial adventurism. Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, deputy chief ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, Union home secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka, and state chief secretary Amitabh Jain also attended the event.
