UFC champ Dricus Du Plessis: Bo Nickal suffering first loss was 'satisfying to watch'
Dricus Du Plessis reveled in Bo Nickal's defeat at UFC on ESPN 67.
Nickal (7-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) suffered his first-career loss when he was finished by Reinier de Ridder in this past Saturday's co-main event at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
Nickal's confidence rubbed plenty of people the wrong way – including UFC middleweight champion Du Plessis, who pulled no punches when addressing his loss. He thinks Nickal quit.
"I have no problem with Bo Nickal's hype. What I do have a problem with was, he was talking about people who have done what he has never done," Du Plessis said on "The Sias du Plessis Show." "He became a three-time NCAA champion if I'm not mistaken. Well, this is not wrestling. This is not wrestling, my good man, and he found that out the hard way. I think he thought he was going to walk through Reinier, and I thought Reinier had a beautiful game plan. You've got to be careful how you talk in this game. You start talking when you get there. He's fought nobodies in terms of being able to talk and then going and saying 'the championship fight was sh*t; these guys can't wrestle; that's not impressive, that win.
"But I mean, humble pie does wonderful things for a man, and I think he got served a full pie. It was satisfying to watch because you can't just disrespect the people who've done what you wish you could do. He had this aura of, 'I am champion, nobody can outwrestle me, I can outwrestle anybody.' He was talking about wrestling, wrestling, wrestling. This is not wrestling, this is fighting. In my honest opinion, that knee, it was a proper knee. Bo Nickal gave up. Bo Nickal was broken mentally, and that's why he took the knee. He wasn't dropped by the knee. The knee caught him. It was a good knee, but if you're going down for knees like that, good luck at the top because the shots are a lot harder."
Nickal insists he's unbothered by the critics, and chalked off the loss to naivety more than overconfidence.

Bengals blasted again for Shemar Stewart contract standoff before camp
The Cincinnati Bengals continue to be hit from all sides over the Shemar Stewart contract situation. What is a nuanced contract situation has onlookers picking sides to some degree, as a chunk of onlookers do wonder why Stewart hasn't at least practiced with his teammates before the whole leaving-minicamp-early thing. Advertisement But the Bengals haven't been able to escape their past reputation in the minds of many, with a new national example popping up recently. While chatting with Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., ESPN's Field Yates hit the Bengals for the entire situation. 'This one is inexcusable… we are talking about minute details of a contract that is pages upon pages long. This was one of the rawest players taken in the entire first round. Those reps are valuable for all rookies.' RELATED: Bengals, Shemar Stewart nuclear option includes 2026 NFL draft route Brown said in that same conversation that the Stewart situation and the Trey Hendrickson contract drama aren't causing distractions for Bengals players (at least yet, anyway). Advertisement Even so, Yates' commentary on the lead-in to the conversation is another example of Cincinnati's earned reputation. The Bengals are within their rights to want to reset certain contract language in their deals from this point. But Stewart is within his rights to say no thanks, while outsiders remain within their rights to point at the past history of the Bengals on these matters. BKFC 76 results: Jessica Eye wins first fight back from retirement, beats UFC veteran Mariya Agapova
Jessica Eye is going home with a couple of cuts and some new bruises but a win on her record as the one-time UFC title challenger returned from retirement and beat Mariya Agapova at BKFC 76. The story of the fight was volume and accuracy with Eye outlanding Agapova by a wide margin as she consistently pressed forward to close the distance and then unloaded with a barrage of punches. When it was over, Eye had clearly done enough to earn the victory with the judges scoring the contest 49-45, 50-44 and 49-45 in her favor as she moves to 1-0 in the BKFC ring. Advertisement 'These bruises heal but the evil lives on,' Eye shouted to the Texas crowd. 'That's what you guys came here for. Are you not entertained?' The flyweights traded body shots to open the fight with Agapova then looked to use her reach at distance while Eye was methodically stalking her across the ring. While she did end up with a cut over her eye from an early exchange, Eye showed a lot of confidence while coming after Agapova while trying to set up a heavy right hand. Eye continuously looked to get inside while pressing Agapova against the ropes and then unleashing a barrage of punches. A couple of wild exchanges saw both fighters land some solid shots but Eye was landing with better power. The end of the third round saw Eye finally unleash her biggest succession of punches as she went hard to the body and then back up top to the head just before the bell sounded. Advertisement The crowd was getting a little restless as Eye was constantly pressing forward, pushing Agapova into the ropes and then trying to throw punches on the inside. That inevitably led to the referee breaking them apart and resetting in the center of the ring. Eye did manage to clip Agapova with a stiff right hand just before the fourth round ended that definitely got her attention. With two minutes remaining, Eye kept moving forward aggressively when she popped Agapova, who stumbled backwards before hitting the canvas. While Agapova complained that she got shoved rather than knocked down, the referee administered the required count before allowing the action to continue. Eye went back to the body again with another blistering combination just before the fight came to an end. Overall, Eye threw over 300 strikes during the fight and she connected with more than 200 shots, which was far more than Agapova across the five round fight. Advertisement Following nearly three years out of action, the 38-year-old veteran returned with a win on Saturday and it appears Eye plans to keep going with a new career started as a member of the BKFC roster. Angel Reese's 3-Pointer Is Going Viral On Saturday
Angel Reese's 3-Pointer Is Going Viral On Saturday originally appeared on The Spun. It wasn't pretty for Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in their 107-86 loss to the 11-4 Phoenix Mercury, but the Bayou Barbie attempted to spark her team by showing off her range on Saturday. Advertisement Midway through the third quarter, the former No. 7 pick drained a rare triple to get the Wintrust Arena crowd going. But unfortunately it wasn't enough to get Chicago back in the game with the Sky still trailing by 19 points. "ANGEL REESE FOR THREE 😤" ESPN exclaimed. Fans reacted to Angel's shot on X. "I know I'm falling for the engagement trap by amplifying this but posts like this are terrible for ESPN's brand," FOS' Ryan Glasspiegel shared. "That emoji when she hits a shot while her 3-9 team is down 20 points? Who is this for?" "I did not know she was left handed lol," a user laughed. "She might be farsighted," another replied. Advertisement "I wish she worked on her 3 and expanded her game," a fan admitted. "Shed be a problem." "This gotta be like when Ben Simmons finally hit a 3 in the NBA," another person pointed out. "'Angel Reese for three' down 20 is such a sad post 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭" another user cried. "Chris Paul meme." "What the [expletive] is this man 😂 they are down 20 in the 3rd quarter and she hits a 3 and espn tweets it out like she hit it to take the lead late," another fan commented.
