Housing scam victims: NAB Lahore disburses Rs1.34bn
LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore, in a significant development, has successfully recovered Rs1.34 billion in Formanities Housing Society scandal and promptly initiated commencement of the same among 1,446 victims of the said scam.
Marking this milestone, Director General (DG) NAB Lahore, Muhammad Ahtram Dar told that, keeping in view the special directives of the Chairman NAB to ensure completion of cheque distribution before Eid-ul-Adha, the Lahore Bureau has been decided to remain operational over the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) to continue delivering services to the victims. The initiative is designed to maximize relief delivery within the shortest possible time.
DG NAB also announced the withdrawal of the requirement to bring stamp papers for cheque collection, a move aimed at facilitating the process for the victims. He further emphasised that providing rapid and prioritised relief to the general public remains a core directive of the Chairman NAB.
He also noted that NAB Lahore has previously succeeded in disbursing compensation to thousands of victims within a remarkably short period. Reaffirming the Bureau's commitment, he further stated that redressing the grievances of housing sector victims, remains their foremost priority.
However, DG NAB Lahore also instructed all victims of the Formanities Housing Scam to ensure for bringing their original documentation for receiving cheques to facilitate a smooth and efficient process.

Section 144 to remain in place across Punjab during Muharram
Listen to article The Punjab government has decided to enforce Section 144 across the province in view of Muharram-ul-Haram, as part of efforts to maintain law and order and prevent sectarian unrest. The ban will be in effect from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram and will prohibit the display of weapons, fireworks, and any material likely to incite sectarian or religious tensions in public spaces without prior permission from authorities, Express News reported. Double riding will be banned on Muharram 9 and 10, though senior citizens, women, and law enforcement personnel will be exempt from this restriction. Authorities have clarified that no new processions or changes in traditional Majalis routes will be permitted. Public statements or content that promote sectarian or ethnic hatred, whether through devices or social media platforms, are also banned under the order. Apart from the double riding ban, all other restrictions will remain effective throughout the first ten days of Muharram. Meanwhile, security has been ramped up in the provincial capital. The Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit have been placed on high alert to ensure safety during Muharram activities. In a recent operation, Dolphin Force recovered firearms from a suspicious black-tinted vehicle on Multan Road, arresting five suspects. Recovered items included two rifles, three pistols, dozens of bullets, and magazines. According to SP Dolphin Arslan Zahid, the suspects—Kashif Ali, Muhammad Rahat, Azeem Anwar, Muhammad Mansab, and Basharat Ali—have been handed over to the Chuhang police station for further legal proceedings. Previously, the Punjab government has rolled out a comprehensive security plan for Muharram, incorporating digital surveillance, inter-agency coordination, and infrastructure safety measures to ensure peaceful religious observances across the province. According to the Home Department, Muharram is likely to begin on June 26 or 27, subject to moon sighting. A digital portal has been activated to monitor majalis, procession routes, and sensitive sites, with deputy commissioners instructed to upload relevant data within five days. The system will be managed by Kamran Taj from the Home Department's MIS section. To bolster security, the department has formally requested the deployment of Pakistan Army and Punjab Rangers, asking for location and duration details within a week. The request also includes mobile signal jamming in specific high-risk zones. To prevent sectarian unrest, the government has directed that non-Shia religious gatherings remain physically separate from Shia events.

SBP injects record high Rs14.3trn in banks for seven days
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has injected a record high Rs14.3 trillion in conventional commercial and Shariah-compliant banks for one week to help overcome the shortage of liquidity in the system after people withdrew significant cash during Eid-ul-Adha and external inflows delayed, it was learnt on Friday. The volume of the injection through open market operations (OMO) comes to almost 44% of the total deposits standing at Rs32.7 trillion in May 2025, according to the central bank latest data. SBP injects massive Rs11.85 trillion into banking system for up to 14 days Citing SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad from an analysts briefing held after the issuance of the latest monetary policy at the outset this week, Arif Habib Limited (AHL) and Topline Research said the OMO stock had increased mainly due to two reasons, including higher currency in circulation during Eid (temporary effect) and delays in external inflows. 'However, OMO levels are expected to decline in the coming weeks as (external) inflows materialise,' AHL reported Ahmad saying this. AHL's Sana Tawfiq and AKD Securities' Awais Ashraf said the cumulative supply of over Rs14 trillion to banks through OMO were record high injections. Elaborating SBP Governor Ahmad's reasoning for the elevated OMO stocks, Tawfiq said people withdrew huge cash from banks during Eid that reduced deposits levels and created additional demand for liquidity in the system. Besides, the reliance of the government on domestic debt has spiked after external inflows from multilateral creditors like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and Asian Development Bank (ADB) got delayed. She added the government reliance on domestic debt, including the one from commercial banks, had been on the rise, as the collection of revenue in taxes had remained low compared to government expenditure. The low tax collection was increasing fiscal deficit, which is being met through piling up debt. Ashraf said the external inflows had remained low for the past two to three years, shifting the government reliance solely on domestic debt to finance budget deficit. Pakistan salaried class rejects govt's claim of giving relief in income tax He said commercial bank financing and national saving schemes had remained two rich avenues available with the government to raise new debt. Out of total Rs31.8 trillion the domestic debt, the share of bank loans had stood at Rs28.1 trillion at present, he added. SBP OMO breakup The breakup of the data suggest the SBP injected Rs13.9 trillion into conventional commercial banks at the rate of return of 11.03% for a period of seven days, as it accepted all the 34 quotes received from banks for the loan. The central bank supplied another Rs375 billion to Shariah compliant banks at the rate of return of 11.11% for seven days, accepting all the three quotes received from Islamic banks.

Azma Bokhari praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's vision, noting that she considers every public rupee a sacred trust and is steering Punjab toward sustainable growth through transparent governance.
