Smoke warning as crews tackle Bradford scrap yard fire
People in part of Bradford have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed as fire crews continue to tackle a large fire at a nearby scrap yard.Fire crews were first called to the blaze on Nelson Street, just outside the city centre, on Wednesday evening and remained at the scene on Thursday.A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said seven pump appliances and one aerial appliance had been sent to a scrap yard building fire.Crews were "requesting that people avoid the area if possible and those that live nearby close all their windows and doors to stop smoke entering their property", the spokesperson said.
The fire investigation team had been assessing the cause of the blaze and found that it had started in an adjacent business where waste was being burned, they added."Unfortunately, this got out of control, spreading to surrounding combustible materials, then to the adjacent units," the fire service spokesperson said.

Hot weather warning in Jersey after large open land blaze
Firefighters have issued a hot weather warning in Jersey after tackling a large blaze on open Fire Service said it was called to Greve de Lecq at about 16:00 BST on Thursday to the incident which covered an area measuring 20m by 100m (65ft by 328ft).A Facebook post from the service said two crews extinguished the flames and remained at the scene to make the area service added people should take extra caution while visiting open land during the current spell of hot weather as fires could "ignite easily and spread rapidly in dry conditions".

RNLI warns South East sunseekers over cold water shock
Lifeguards in the South East have warned those enjoying the hot weather this weekend to be wary of cold water shock as seaside temperatures are set to soar to around 30⁰C (86⁰F).Water safety teams from the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) say that water temperatures will remain cold enough to be dangerous despite Sussex and Kent nearing the heatwave Addington, water safety lead for the RNLI in the South East, said those heading to the seaside should choose beaches with lifeguards on them and to stay afloat if they get into heat health warnings are in place across the UK until 09:00 BST on Monday as temperatures could hit 31⁰C over the weekend. Council issues heat warning ahead of Northampton Eid festival
A council has urged people to bring plenty of water and sun cream to its annual Eid festival. Northampton Town Council warned people visiting the event at Becket's Park on Sunday to take care as temperatures rise over the festival will take place between 12:00 and 18:00 Fun Dog Show was also due to take place on Sunday, but has been cancelled because of the hot weather. Jamal Alwahabi, chair of the Eid management committee, said: "We warmly invite everyone to join us at the Northampton Eid Festival in Becket's Park. This is a day of celebration for both the Muslim community and the wider community."It's an opportunity for us all to get together in the spirit of friendship and peace. At the event there will be lots of stalls, plenty of cultural food and entertainment for all the family."Northamptonshire Police will also be holding a StaySafe4Summer event on Saturday.
