Hot tub horror as mother, 24, suffers fatal burns after hitting her head and falling into scalding water
A woman suffered fatal burns after hitting her head and falling unconscious in a hot tub in a hotel.
Mother-of-one Gabriele Cristine Barreto de Freitas had was staying at a hotel in Curitiba, in the Brazilian state of Parana, with a man she had met at a party a week earlier.
The pair were reportedly both enjoying a soak in a hot tub in the hotel.
Her partner then got up to leave and Gabriele stayed behind. Once on her own, she reportedly hit her head and passed out, local media have reported.
It is understood that her partner heard Gabriele slip and fall in the tub.
She then woke up and her partner reportedly noticed her hand was peeling and her thigh had burn blisters.
The 24-year-old suffered third degree burns from the scalding water in the hot tub.
She was then rushed to a hospital, where her entire body was wrapped up in bandages.
She remained conscious at the hospital and was recording videos for her family.
Despite signs of recovery, six days later it was reported that Gabriele had suffered cardiac arrest and had died on June 5.
Her sister, Jenifer Vaniele Barreto, said: 'They arrived at the hotel and he turned on the tub to a hot temperature.
'The two went to shower, took a bath and he left first and went to bed. He heard her fall and slip in the tub.'
She added: 'We don't understand how Gabriele's death happened. No one gave us any answers, they just said she had a cardiac arrest and died, that's all.'
The police at the Curitiba Homicide Division have opened an investigation into Gabriele's death.
The man who she went to the hotel with has not yet been interviewed by the police, according to local media reports.
The family's lawyer Valter Ribeiro Junior said they are demanding tests on the hot tub's thermostat to see if it was faulty.
He said: 'It is unacceptable that someone goes to a hotel for leisure and leaves burnt to the point of dying days later.
'If it happened to her, it's probably going to happen to other people.
'It is possible that the equipment is not up to date and may have caused these burns.'
Gabriele leaves behind a five-year-old son, who is now being cared for by her mother.

Nurse jailed for life for killing of five babies and attempted murder of eight others at hospital in Argentina
A nurse who murdered five babies and tried to kill eight others at a hospital in Argentina has been jailed for life. Brenda Cecilia Aguero injected her victims with potassium and insulin stolen from emergency medical carts where there was no inventory control. The healthy babies were found dead at the neonatal ward of the maternity and child hospital in Cordoba province, 370 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, between March and June 2022. Eight others survived due to swift medical intervention. Under Argentine law, Aguero will not be eligible for parole before serving 35 years. The babies, all born healthy, died under initially unexplained circumstances at the neonatal ward of the maternity and child hospital in Cordoba province, 370 miles (600 km) northwest of Buenos Aires. The Argentine trial also brought charges against 10 other defendants, including former provincial officials and health professionals for cover-up and dereliction of duty. Those charged included a former health minister and secretary of health of Cordoba province, as well as the former hospital director. Aguero, who was arrested in 2022, denied the charges, earlier telling the court 'they have no evidence' and accusing media of portraying her as a 'serial killer.' Judge Patricia Soria, who presided over the case, shed tears as she read a statement of thanks to jurors at the end of the trial. Aguero was promptly led from the courtroom in handcuffs and transferred to Bouwer Prison near Cordoba following the conclusion of the trial this wee. Earlier, prosecutors had argued that Aguero was motivated by career ambitions, according to local outlet Infobae. She was said to have harmed the babies to be the first to detect their symptoms, raise the alarm, and impress her superiors in hopes of being promoted from the obstetrics ward to the neonatal unit. But the spate of sudden deaths and disturbing symptoms among the babies raised suspicions. Of the 13 victims examined, many bore unexplained puncture marks in areas not typically used for injections. Several had potassium and or insulin levels in their blood incompatible with life, which experts said could only have resulted from external injection, according to Infobae.

Watch moment lag gets STUCK upside down in jail wall after bungling desperate escape from prison
THIS is the bizarre moment an inmate found himself waist-deep - after a bungled escape attempt. Alan Leandro da Silva, 32, can be seen awkwardly wedged in his cell wall as a firefighter drills through the concrete around his torso. 5 5 Bizarre footage shows Alan resting his upper body on a blue chair while fire officers try to free him from the cell wall at the prison in Rio Branco. His shirtless back, marked by a large demon tattoo, was strained from hanging down over the floor. It also appears to be injured, with visible grazes and bloody wounds shown in the video. Officers said they had to be extra careful not to injure his upper body during the drilling process. Alan attempted to make his escape through the rugged hole while the guards were distracted. But he appears to have underestimated the size of his escape hole - or his body - soon finding himself stuck waist-deep inside the wall. After wardens noticed 'strange movement' in the cell on Monday, they called firefighters for help. Officers carefully extracted the inmate, who was freed unharmed. A fire department spokesperson said: "According to the inmate's own account, the hole was dug for two days using a nail and a broomstick. "However, during the escape attempt, he was trapped inside the opening. "In view of the situation, Criminal Police called the Fire Department to carry out the rescue. 5 Bumbling 'arsonists' who try to set fire to a house accidentally set their getaway car ablaze as they try to escape "After thorough work, the rescue team was able to successfully release the victim, who was safely handed over to the Criminal Police team that was already on standby at the scene." The man was given first aid before being sent back to his cell. Jail officials have yet to explain how the man obtained the tools or how the large hole in the wall went unnoticed. It comes as a trio of would-be arsonists accidentally torched their own getaway car. Security footage from southern Australia shows a clumsy man dousing the front of a house with a liquid - before his escape plan goes up in flames. Meanwhile, a bungling crew member activated a jet's emergency slide by mistake - putting it out of service and delaying hundreds of passengers. The gaffe, which took place on a BA flight in January, cost the airline £100,000.
