'We're Resolving The Problem': Maxim Malaysia On APAD Order To Cease Operations
Over the weekend, news outlets reported that e-hailing companies Maxim Malaysia and inDrive Malaysia were issued notices to cease operations by 24th July 2025. After much speculation, Maxim finally speaks out on the issue.
On 14th May 2025 (Wednesday), the company released a statement saying it's in discussion with transport authorities about the order to cease operations. Maxim said it'll continue to operate throughout the nation while talks are ongoing. The company said, 'We are currently discussing with the relevant authorities how to promptly resolve this while maintaining the goodwill and reputation we have built over the years.'
This statement comes after reports that the land public transport agency (APAD) had issued letters to Maxim and inDrive for allegedly illegal operations. This stems from reported pressure from the Malaysian P-Hailing Riders Association, which claims the companies offered services without complying with existing regulations. Some allegations include drivers not possessing valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licenses and e-hailing insurance.
The two companies are currently appealing APAD's decision, with Transport Minister Anthony Loke having the final say on the two companies' fate. However, Maxim reiterates that drivers under the platform had undergone rigorous inspections by its 'specialised officers' to ensure they complied with guidelines and laws. It also said it would work closely with the government and offer full support until this issue is settled.
inDrive has also assured its full compliance with the government on this matter and will continue to engage with authorities to seek further clarification. However, both companies are still in operation until 24th July. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) also denied blocking the two platforms' apps in Malaysia, saying it would only block upon request from the Transport Ministry.

Electric Train Service set to boost Johor tourism
JOHOR BARU: The Electric Train Service (ETS) that is expected to be fully completed by August will significantly boost the tourism industry here, says Tourism Malaysia. Deputy Director General (Promotion) Datuk Musa Yusof said the timing of the ETS completion aligns well with preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026. "The ETS will connect Johor Baru directly to Kuala Lumpur, which will strengthen the industry, especially in terms of tourist movement. "It will allow visitors to travel between these two places in about three and a half hours, enabling them to visit more locations. In March, Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that two sets of ETS trains from China were expected to arrive in April and would be operational by August after undergoing necessary trials. He mentioned that the trains, along with another eight sets, are being assembled in Batu Gajah, Perak, and will complete the southern route of the line, following the start of the ETS service at Segamat station in Johor on 15 March. 'We don't have to wait for all 10 sets to start operating; we will use whichever set is completed. "For Gemas to Johor Baru, there will be three phases - Phase 1 to Segamat, Phase 2 to Kluang, and Phase 3 to JB Sentral,' he said after travelling on the ETS from KL Sentral to Segamat station in March.

KLIA Aerotrain to resume service for travellers on July 1, Transport Ministry announces
SEPANG, June 21 — The new Aerotrain service at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will officially begin operations come July 1. Confirming service resumption next month, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he is hopeful the latest development would allow a greater comfort for travelling passengers transiting between the main terminal and the satellite building. 'I am happy to announce that we are entering the final phase of testings in the coming days. 'If all goes smoothly, we have decided to reopen the train service at 10am on July 1,' he told a press conference after attending a trial-run at the KLIA Terminal 1 building here. The Aerotrain, a key component of KLIA's internal transport system since 1998, was suspended in March 2023 following a breakdown. The new Aerotrain system is expected to improve the passenger experience, reduce operational disruptions, and support the anticipated increase in air passenger traffic in the coming years. JISA Special Op To Audit 500 Bus And Lorry Operators Starting Monday
BUTTERWORTH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will conduct audits on 500 operators of public service vehicles (PSV) and high-risk goods commercial vehicles (GCV) through the nationwide JPJ Inspection & Safety Audit (JISA) Special Operation, starting Monday. Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the operation was carried out in line with the directive from the Transport Minister Anthony Loke to investigate PSV and GCV operators to ensure compliance with the audit process stipulated under the Land Public Transport Act (APAD). He said the main focus of the operation is to assess the company's compliance level with safety aspects, vehicle maintenance, driver management, and compliance records under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations. "The enforcement of the JISA Special Op involves the implementation of Safety Inspection and Audit Reports that focus on compliance with the Industrial Code of Practice (ICOP) regarding safety in the transportation industry. "Additionally, there will be the review and resolution of outstanding issues for vehicle owners and drivers, as well as compliance with the Vehicle Technical Plan," he said at a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Programme 2025 presentation ceremony here today. Aedy Fadly emphasised that the action was taken following the recent frequent accidents involving heavy vehicles, including the bus crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students on June 9. Commenting further, he said his team had also identified the list of involved companies obtained from the APAD and JPJ list through a review of outstanding summonses. "Based on statistics, the JPJ has identified a category of high-risk operators, which includes 300 lorries, 100 tour buses and 100 express buses," he also said. He added that strict action will be taken against any operator found to be violating regulations or neglecting safety aspects, including issuing notices of violation, suspension, or cancellation of vocational driving licenses (PSV/GDL) or company operator licences.
