How a Chinese AI start-up helps Nike, Gap, Urban Revivo predict fashion trends

Zhiyi Tech founder and CEO Zheng Zeyu said in a Post interview last Friday that his company's expertise helped Chinese fast-fashion retailer Urban Revivo, a client since 2020, increase its opportunities to create bestselling items by 5 percentage points in the first three years of their partnership. Urban Revivo typically churns out more than 100,000 designs each year.
According to Zheng, Zhiyi Tech also enabled Urban Revivo to improve its sell-through rate – a measure of the inventory sold during a specific time, compared to the amount of stock received from suppliers in the same span – to 80 per cent from 60 per cent over the same three-year period.
The start-up's operations reflect how increased AI-related activity in mainland China has convinced more enterprises to adopt the technology and transform their industries.

China has successfully tested a home-grown operating system in space , marking a major step towards reducing reliance on foreign software and boosting the performance of future small satellites. Advertisement More than 1,000 hours of in-orbit testing were conducted aboard the Dalian-1 Lianli CubeSat to evaluate how satellite subsystems performed under the OpenHarmony real-time operating system (RTOS) – a lightweight version of Huawei 's open-source operation platform, according to a team of researchers from the Chinese cities of Dalian and Xian. With OpenHarmony , the suitcase-sized satellite, which was released from China's Tiangong space station last year, delivered faster data updates and improved stability compared with earlier set-ups using simpler firmware or foreign software, the researchers reported in the latest issue of the journal Space: Science and Technology. 'The Lianli satellite mission showed that using the OpenHarmony real-time operating system significantly improved the satellite's response speed and reliability,' Yu Xiaozhou, the paper's lead author and a professor at Dalian University of Technology, told Chinese media in May. Illustration: Handout As the first microsatellite to carry the OpenHarmony RTOS, Lianli also ran on a domestically produced chip, 'achieving a fully home-grown hardware-software solution in the field, and offering a new option for spacecraft operating systems worldwide', according to Chinese media reports. Advertisement Following the Lianli mission, Yu and colleagues proposed national technical standards to guide how OpenHarmony is used in small satellites – a step intended to encourage broader adoption, which is already taking place across both commercial and research satellite missions in China.

China's most advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian , is expected to have the ability to carry out 'deck load strikes', a type of swarm attack that could help the country's navy gain a first-mover advantage in combat, according to state broadcaster CCTV on Saturday. A deck load strike refers to the ability to rapidly launch a large number of aircraft at once. This tactic was used by the US Navy during the Vietnam war for shock effect. While military experts had speculated that the Fujian would be able to carry out these attacks, this was the first state media report to highlight the ability. 'China's aircraft carrier technology is marking a historic leap as it enters the critical phase of combat capability development,' CCTV reported. It added the home-grown aircraft carrier had been 'progressing steadily' in sea trials since the first test in May of last year and would 'soon form a three-carrier fleet' for the Chinese navy. The Fujian is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year, CCTV reported in May, joining two active carriers, the Liaoning and Shandong.
