President Ramkalawan Attends Seychelles Maritime Academy Graduation as 104 Students Mark Major Academic Milestone
President Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by First Lady Mrs. Linda Ramkalawan, graced the Seychelles Maritime Academy (SMA) graduation ceremony held on Tuesday afternoon at the International Conference Centre Seychelles (ICCS). The event celebrated the academic accomplishments of 104 students completing certificate and advanced certificate programmes—an important milestone for the country's maritime education sector.
This year's ceremony underscored the unwavering commitment and academic discipline of the graduates, whose achievements reflect both resilience and scholarly excellence. A central feature of the event was the presentation of special awards honouring individuals who demonstrated outstanding performance and perseverance. Two new accolades were introduced this year—the Heart and Hustle Award and the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy Award —broadening the scope of recognition to encompass diverse forms of student excellence.
The ceremony's highest distinction, the President's Cup for Outstanding Performer, was awarded to Eliel Meriza, a graduate of the Advanced Certificate in Nautical Science. Meriza was commended for his exemplary leadership, strong character, and meaningful contributions to the academic community. His success was attributed to remarkable perseverance, discipline, and integrity throughout his academic tenure.

Delivering the keynote address, SMA Director Captain Mahesa Abeynayake applauded the graduates for their accomplishments and urged them to view this achievement not as a final destination, but as a launching point for continued growth. He encouraged graduates to consider this an exhilarating new chapter they are commencing.
Captain Abeynayake also highlighted the comprehensive and rigorous training the students received, which he noted would serve as a foundation for professional excellence. Quoting the Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius, he reminded students that 'You are what you think,' underscoring the importance of mindset and purpose as they transition into the workforce.
The ceremony reaffirmed the Seychelles Maritime Academy's pivotal role in equipping a new generation of maritime professionals, aligning with national strategies to strengthen the blue economy while upholding high standards of maritime training and education.
The event was attended by key dignitaries including Minister for Education Dr Justin Valentin, Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy Mr. Jean-François Ferrari, Chief of Defence Forces Major General Michael Rosette, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ted Barbe, Seychelles Port Authority Harbour Master Captain Jean-Paul Fanchette, principal secretaries, senior officials, and invited guests.

'More than ceremony': UAE minister honours 50 people of determination upon graduating
Fifty young men and women with disabilities walked proudly across the stage in Ajman, celebrating a moment many thought might never come - they were graduating. It highlighted the importance of investing in the capabilities of people of determination and providing a supportive environment for them to contribute effectively to the nation's development. It also showcases the Ministry of Family's important work in promoting social inclusion and ensuring equal access to education, healthcare, and jobs for people of determination, in line with the National Policy for Empowering Persons with Disabilities. The Ministry of Family operates several rehabilitation centres for people of determination across different emirates, including Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Dibba Al-Fujairah. These centres work with individuals aged 4 to 18, offering customised education and training. Once students complete the programme, they can move into vocational work, take on small projects, or prepare to enter the job market. One programme, called the 'Mashaghel Rehabilitation Centres Programme,' gives people of determination training in entrepreneurship and home-based business skills. It helps them work towards independence and learn how to run their own small projects or businesses from home.

National Maritime Navigation Centre to strengthen UAE's leadership in maritime sector
Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted that the Cabinet's decision to establish the National Maritime Navigation Centre reflects the UAE's strategic vision for developing an integrated sustainable and innovative maritime ecosystem and reinforcing the country's position as a leading global maritime hub. He explained that the National Maritime Navigation Centre, affiliated with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, represents a significant addition to the ongoing development of the UAE's maritime infrastructure. The new centre will manage and operate the Integrated National Maritime System for monitoring maritime traffic and oversee the National Maritime Single Window, which aims to unify procedures and enhance the efficiency of maritime operations. He affirmed that the centre serves as an advanced platform for cooperation among the various entities involved in the maritime sector, thereby strengthening efforts to monitor and protect the sector and elevate its role as a strategic contributor to the national economy. In this context, he expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to all stakeholders in the UAE maritime sector for their support, collaboration, and dedicated efforts that contributed to the establishment of the centre. He emphasised that this achievement reflects the spirit of integration and collective action that defines the government work system in the UAE. HE Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan attends graduation of the class of 2025 at Zayed University
Abu Dhabi, UAE – Zayed University ('ZU') celebrated the graduation of the 'Future Makers' Class of 2025, recognising the achievements of 1,503 students across its Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses. The ceremony was held over three days at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and attended by His Excellency Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Her Excellency Shamma bint Sohail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Empowerment and Chairperson of the ZU Board of Trustees, alongside guests of honour, members of the university's Board of Trustees, prominent figures, and the families of the graduates. Her Excellency Hajer Al Thehli, Secretary General of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, marked the first day of the graduation ceremony as Guest of Honor, highlighting the vital role the university plays in preparing the next generation of leaders for the UAE. This year marks the 23rd cohort of graduating female students and the 13th cohort of male students. The Class of 2025 includes a diverse group of graduates, comprising 1,234 female and 203 male undergraduates, along with 66 postgraduate students. Her Excellency Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Community Development and Chairperson of the Zayed University Board of Trustees, congratulated the graduates and their families on their achievement, describing the ceremony as a celebration of legacy, identity, and future purpose. She said: 'True legacy isn't built by titles or applause. it's rooted in values that hold firm when no one is watching. Today's graduates carry three national trusts: skill that serves, knowledge that questions, and character that endures. The future won't be shaped by how loud we speak, but by how deeply we are rooted.'
