England name squad for India Test series opener at Headingley
England have named a 14-player squad for the first match of the Rothesay Test Series against India, which is set to begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.
Ben Stokes will lead the squad as captain and Surrey bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton returns to the Test line-up for the first time since earning his sole cap against New Zealand at Headingley in June 2022.
The 31-year-old is still under close medical review after breaking his right little finger during the first One-Day International against the West Indies at Edgbaston last week.
Durham seamer Brydon Carse, as well as Warwickshire's Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes, were recalled after featuring in England's Test tour of New Zealand in December.
Surrey's Gus Atkinson was ruled out of selection due to a hamstring injury sustained during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge last month.
England will play five Test matches against India over the next couple of months, finishing on August 4 at the Kia Oval in London.

Pant, Rahul put India in command against England
LEEDS, England :Rishabh Pant became the first Indian to score twin centuries in a test in England and helped the touring side move into a strong position on 298-4 at tea on day four of the first test at Headingley on Monday. Resuming the day on 90-2, with a lead of 96 runs, India captain Shubman Gill, who made his highest test score in the first innings, chopped onto his stumps to fall for eight, a second wicket for Brydon Carse. England sensed an opportunity having dragged themselves back into the test on Sunday, but Pant's partnership with KL Rahul swung momentum back in India's favour. The normally box office Pant started his innings quite conservatively, happy to watch on as Rahul moved smoothly to his century, his ninth in tests. After smashing two sixes in three balls after lunch, however, Pant hit the accelerator and brought out his typically flamboyant shots to all corners of the ground, with his hundred meaning, for the first time, there have been five Indian centuries scored in one test match. Pant eventually tried one shot too many, caught chasing another six on the boundary by Zak Crawley for 118, but the damage had been done in a 195-run fourth wicket stand, with Rahul still unbeaten on 120 at tea.

Liberty Media had argued the transaction would allow it to grow the reach and appeal of MotoGP. The commission said the decision followed a lengthy probe that examined if the acquisition would reduce competition for the licensing of sports content broadcasting rights. "Based on the evidence gathered, the Commission found that on such markets the companies are not close competitors for the licensing of broadcasting rights for sports content," the commission said in a statement. "Therefore, the transaction will not remove important competitive constraints between Formula 1 and MotoGP," it added. Liberty Media CEO Derek Chang welcomed the EU's clearance and reiterated he saw the potential for strong growth in MotoGP. "Today's approval from the European Commission marks the final condition to closing Liberty's acquisition of MotoGP," said Chang. "MotoGP is a highly attractive premium sports asset with incredible racing, a passionate fanbase and a strong cash flow profile. We believe the sport and brand have significant growth potential, which we will look to realize through deepening the connection with the core fan base and expanding to a wider global audience," he added. Liberty Media said its acquisition of 84% of Dorna was worth 4.3 billion euros on an enterprise value basis, and represented an equity value of 3.7 billion euros. Reuters had reported that EU regulators were poised to approve the acquisition in April. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

'The 7-time champion has arrived' — Netizens react to Novak Djokovic's arrival at Wimbledon 2025
WIMBLEDON, LONDON: From Jun 30 to Jul 13, the Wimbledon 2025 tournament will bring excitement to fans all around the world as athletes return to the grass courts of the All England Club to fight for another Grand Slam title. Fans will expect fierce and thrilling matches, especially as defending champion Carlos Alcaraz aims to defend his title, and top athlete Novak Djokovic aims to add another title to his impressive list of achievements in his sporting career. With anticipation for the event spreading across social media, fans expressed their excitement as Djokovic posted an update stating that he is ready for the competition and has already arrived at the Wimbledon 2025 venue. In a social media post, Djokovic simply stated: 'Hello Wimbledon.' On Reddit, this specific post from Djokovic sparked a conversation. One Redditor confidently declared: 'The 7-time champion has arrived.' The post then garnered mixed thoughts and opinions. Some redditor showed support by saying: 'Looking good champ, let's get #25,' 'His best and only chance to win a GS.' Another Redditor shared his statement and shared: 'I don't think he can get past Bublik. The new generation is here.' However, a Redditor also declared as a response to this comment: 'For those who say he won't pass Bublik or can't win against Alcaraz and Sinner are forgetting the fact that this is Djokovic. He's without a doubt the third-best player in the world at the moment and can take anyone in any court on a good day. I cannot understand how people just write him off easily.' A few more Redditors said that Djokovic will now have a hard time winning the title. One remarked: 'He doesn't have the legs for a title run anymore, that being said, I wouldn't expect anything less than a QF result'. Another said, 'I think he should pack his bags and leave ASAP. Run as fast as possible, brother! You do not want to face the second coming of the grass god, who has yet to reach their prime. Sinner will be a nice sacrifice instead.' A third netizen said, 'I just don't want another finals appearance that ends in a three-set defeat. Not sure what the draw possibilities are, but he needs someone to take out Alcaraz, and then he can beat Sinner in the finals. OK, I'll stop.' Djokovic's 2025 performance so far Novak Djokovic was recently defeated by Jannik Sinner in straight sets in the semifinals of the 2025 French Open. This loss marked another missed opportunity for Djokovic to win another Grand Slam title. His last Grand Slam title was at the 2023 US Open. Djokovic has been moving forward this season with a coach, following the end of his partnership with Andy Murray after six months.
