No vehicular access to Dudhsagar falls

In light of the advancing
monsoon
and subsequent widespread rainfall over the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, the Goa forest department announced the temporary closure of vehicular access to the Dudhsagar waterfalls via the forest road starting June 10, until further notice.
The decision was taken to ensure public safety, as confirmed by the deputy conservator of forests, wildlife and eco-tourism (North), Jiss Varkey.
While vehicle movement is suspended, guided trekking to Dudhsagar waterfalls will remain open to visitors. This activity can be booked exclusively through the online portal managed by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, and will require payment of forest entry fees and handling charges. The entry time slot for trekking has been fixed between 7.30 am and 11am, with access through the forest gate at Collem. Additionally, the fee for nature guide services was revised to Rs 300 per person.

Panaji: Amidst concerns about traffic congestion, the sanctity of sacred places and cleanliness, the tourism department has started to prepare norms and guidelines for tourists who will visit the 11 temples that have been identified as part of the temple circuit or Ekadasha Teertha Yatra. The department recently held a meeting with representatives of the 11 temple committees associated with the circuit. The representatives said the spiritual sanctity of each temple should be maintained while hosting tourists. 'The representatives emphasised the importance of formulating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for tourists. They also recommended that tourist itineraries be planned carefully during temple festivals,' said tourism director Kedar Naik. Parking and traffic management emerged as key concern for the temple committees, particularly when buses and large vehicles carrying tourists arrive at temple sites. The representatives told the department to consider temple-specific solutions to ensure smooth visitor movement and avoid congestion. Colva beach mess belies Rs 11cr revamp

Colva: Under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, Colva beach was to be beautified for Rs 11.7 crore, but a visit to the beach today reveals shattered infrastructure despite the promise of the creation of an 'iconic beach'. The money was sanctioned for Colva beach in July 2018. The project was launched by the tourism minister at the time, Manohar Ajgaonkar, and included comprehensive beautification, roadworks, and landscaping. However, within a year, the structures began deteriorating. By the monsoon of 2020, most gazebos had collapsed. Today, only two skeletal remains stand. The situation deteriorated in 2022, when the ornamental lighting poles were ripped off by strong winds, plunging the beach into darkness for months. In May 2025, unseasonal rains brought down the remaining poles. CM shares final design of Janaki temple at Punaura Dham

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday shared the final design of 'Jagat Janani Maa Janaki Mandir', which will be constructed at Punaura Dham, a Hindu pilgrimage site in Sitamarhi district that is widely considered as the birthplace of goddess Sita. The CM said that the design for the holistic development of the 'Jagat Janani Maa Janaki Mandir' has been finalised and that a dedicated trust has been formed to expedite the work for its development. "I am very happy to inform you that the design of the grand temple and other structures for the development of Jagat Janani Maa Janaki's birthplace at Punaura Dham, Sitamarhi, is now ready," Nitish said in a social media post, sharing several images of the proposed temple. Nitish added, "We are determined to complete the construction of the grand temple in Sitamarhi district, as soon as possible. Building the magnificent temple of Maa Janaki is a matter of pride and fortune for all us Biharis." The state cabinet, during a recent meeting, approved the appointment of a Noida-based private firm as the design consultant for the development of the Punaura Dham temple. It is the same organisation, which was the consultant for the master plan and architectural services of the Ram temple at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. Lakhs of pilgrims, including those from abroad, especially Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, visit Punaura Dham every year.
