Deccan Herald5 hours ago

Earlier this year, in March, Google introduced an experimental Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mode in the Search app. However, this had a limitation as it only took text requests for AI mode search. Now, the company has added a voice search option called 'Search Live'. Users can ask questions, and it will respond in audio. The interaction can be as natural as people talking to each other. However, the generated AI (gen AI) voice will sound a little robotic, as this is a beta feature. The new feature is now available on the Google Search app for iPhone and Android phones in the US. It will be expanded to more regions, including India, in the coming months..Android 16: Seven key features you should know about Google's latest mobile OS.Here's how to use 'Search Live' on your phone:Users have to just open the Google app >> tap the new 'Live' icon, and verbally ask their question, like, What are some tips for improving the flowering growth in the rose plant?'The user will hear a helpful AI-generated audio response, and he/she can easily follow up with another question, like, "How many times should I resoil the pot in a year?"The AI chatbot will also offer easy-to-access links right on the phone's screen so the user can dig deeper with content from the web.The AI chatbot also offers transcription of the interaction, and this can be stored in the notepad on the phone for future reference..In the coming months, Google plans to introduce even more Live capabilities to AI Mode, including the camera option where users can talk back-and-forth, and users can show the Search app what he/she seeing in real time and retrieve any related information on the screen. In a related development, Google DeepMind, the creator of Gemini AI, is reportedly working on a new technology that can mimic the writing of the subscriber and auto reply to people via email, Demis Hassabis, the head of Google DeepMind, confirmed at the SXSW London festival. With the next-generation Gmail, users can automate their responses. Swiggy pilots travel and lifestyle concierge app Crew

Swiggy has launched a travel and lifestyle concierge app, Crew, on a pilot basis, according to information about the app published on Google Play Store. This marks the Bengaluru-based company's entry into a new business after food delivery, dining out, quick commerce and professional services. The app, which involves human concierges in addition to generative artificial intelligence (AI), helps users plan trips, going beyond simply suggesting itineraries.A Swiggy spokesperson did not comment on the year, ahead of its initial public offering (IPO), the company had started testing Rare Life, a personalised concierge service focused on elite and exclusive experiences. However, this project was discontinued after Swiggy decided not to scale it up beyond a small cohort. In January, the company rolled out professional services marketplace Pyng, signalling that it was following a house of apps strategy similar to Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Meituan, which have also had multiple apps for various services. This is in contrast to the 'superapp' strategy, where consumers are expected to come for one basic use-case and transact across multiple services. Also, superapps are yet to see any noteworthy success at scale in Crew and Pyng, Swiggy now has the main app, which houses food delivery, quick commerce, dining out and its events platform Scenes. The quick commerce unit, Instamart, also got a separate app in launch of Crew was first reported by Entrackr. Swiggy recently suspended its peer-to-peer parcel delivery service Genie, which was available in 70 cities. The company has also licenced its cloud kitchen brands to food service outfit Kouzina, with plans to fully transfer these businesses upon fulfilment of certain conditions. On Friday, Swiggy shares ended 3.1% higher at Rs 385.90 on the BSE.

Google Search Live Is Your Gemini-Powered Assistant For AI Mode On Mobile: What It Offers

Last Updated: Google is bringing Gemini AI voice support to Search with AI mode for mobile users and it will give you the best of both worlds. Google is quickly expanding the reach of Gemini AI assistant to all corners and we mean it. Search has come under threat because of the new AI tools but the company feels that both can co-exist and help you deliver the results. Google Search Live is basically a mashup of Search and Gemini Live that works through the AI Mode on search for mobile users. Google is working out the schematics of the new feature with a limited user base for now but expect a full roll out in the coming months. We've already seen Gemini Live operate and talk to users by offering them a conversational experience. Search Live is doing that and giving you the usual search results on the screen. The new feature will work in AI mode for people in the US and you have to sign up for the Labs program that Google offers for its unreleased tools. Once you do that, you will see a Live icon in the Google app on Android and iOS as well. You can tap on this icon to start conversing with Search and the AI-generated model will respond to any of your queries. And just like Gemini Live, you can continue the conversation without using any wake word to trigger the AI assistant and have follow-up queries for Search AI. And yes, you can get a transcript of the chat you have with Search Live so that you can go back and check the history in case ever needed. Google is going to add camera-centric support so that you can show the visual to Search and let it respond based on what it can see.

Meta announces passkeys on Facebook to secure mobile logins

Meta has announced the rollout of passkeys on Facebook for iOS and Android devices, offering users a new way to sign in using the fingerprint, facial recognition or PIN already set up on their smartphones. 'Passkeys will soon be available on iOS and Android mobile devices for Facebook, and we will begin rolling out passkeys to Messenger in the coming months,' revealed Meta in an official announcement. Passkeys offer a passwordless login method that uses your phone's built-in authentication tools such as fingerprint, facial recognition or a device PIN to verify identity. The credentials are stored locally on the device rather than on servers, making them more secure and resistant to phishing and other cyberattacks. How does a passkey keep your account secure? Passkeys are much harder to steal or hack than passwords. Since your fingerprint, face scan or PIN never leaves your device, no one, not even Meta, can access it. This means even if a hacker tricks you with a fake login page, there's nothing for them to steal. Unlike SMS codes, which can be intercepted, passkeys can't be reused or phished. Each passkey is unique to your device and account, so even if someone tries to copy it, it won't work anywhere else. Simply put, it's a safer, more private way to log in. What else can you do with your passkey? You'll soon be able to use your passkey to autofill payment info with Meta Pay, log in to Messenger and secure your message backups. How to set up your passkey While the arrival of passkeys on Facebook is a welcome improvement, it also highlights Meta's comparatively slow adoption of this now industry-standard feature. Tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon and PayPal have already been using passkeys to keep their consumers secure. Google has been offering passkeys since 2022, while X (formerly Twitter), eBay and other platforms have already enabled them for a long time. Meta began supporting passkeys on WhatsApp last year, and Facebook and Messenger are now catching up. However, Instagram still does not support passkeys, and no rollout timeline has been announced. The delay also raises broader questions about Meta's approach to user security, especially given the company's sprawling user base across its platforms.
