Call to create awareness on govt school education
Bhimavaram: West Godavari district Collector Chadalawada Nagarani has directed education officials to prioritise government school admissions through proactive door-to-door awareness campaigns for parents.
During a review meeting on Friday, she addressed SSC results, government school enrollment, 25% reservation for disadvantaged students, out-of-school children admissions, and APAAR ID registration. Emphasising the quality education and facilities in government schools, she urged officials to dispel parental misconceptions about private schools.
Nagarani also highlighted Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Education Minister N Lokesh's focus on increasing literacy and school development. She stressed the need for village and mandal-level awareness plans, involving officials and teachers in door-to-door outreach. While noting the district's 82.15% SSC pass rate (ranking 16th), she aimed for further improvement. Instructions were given to organise special classes for supplementary exams to be held from May 19 to 28 and to prioritise single-parent and orphaned children for the 25% quota admissions scheduled from April 28 to May 15.
The Collector also addressed the pending APAAR ID registrations (32,723 students) and the need to prevent dropouts, particularly in grades 6-8. The meeting concluded with the unveiling of an admission campaign pamphlet and poster.

Security, surveillance in place for counting of votes tomorrow
Ludhiana: District election officer Himanshu Jain Saturday said elaborate arrangements are in place for the smooth counting of votes polled for the Ludhiana West bypoll. At sharp 7 am on June 23, the counting of votes and postal ballots will commence in the presence of election observers, candidates, and their authorised representatives. An official statement said robust security measures, including the deployment of paramilitary forces at the counting centres to safeguard electronic voting machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines, have been implemented. The entire process is being continuously monitored through CCTV surveillance. The DEO emphasised that entry to the counting centres will be strictly regulated, allowing only candidates, their representatives, media personnel, and authorised individuals with valid identity cards issued by the ECI. Fourteen candidates are in the fray for the seat, including AAP's Sanjeev Arora, Congress' Bharat Bhushan Ashu, BJP's Jiwan Gupta, and SAD's advocate Parupkar Singh Ghuman. Chief electoral officer Sibin C Thursday said the voter turnout, as per data uploaded till 7pm on the voting day, was 51.33%. As part of a new initiative, polling data was uploaded on the ECINET app by the presiding officers at the respective polling stations. A total of 194 polling stations were set up. Besides the provision of assured minimum facilities at each polling station, for the first time, a mobile deposit facility was created at the entrance of all polling stations.

SSC Scam in West Bengal: Calcutta HC stays state govt's relief scheme for sacked non-teaching staff
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted an interim stay , restraining the West Bengal government from implementing a scheme to provide monetary assistance to non-teaching staff ( Group-C and Group-D ) who had lost their jobs following a Supreme Court judgment in April this year. The court has directed the state government to file an affidavit within four weeks and reply, if any, within a fortnight. The Single Judge Bench of Justice Amrita Sinha, who was hearing the case said, "As an interim measure, the State is restrained from giving any effect and/or further effect to the impugned Scheme till September 26, 2025 or until further order." Pointing out that the "conflicting stand of the State does not appear to be proper", the court observed that "If it is the specific stand of the State that the review application is pending, then the State ought to have taken leave of the Hon'ble Supreme Court to give effect to the impugned Scheme. On one hand the State proceeds to publish a new Scheme without obtaining leave of the Court where the matter is alleged to be pending, and on the other, when the said Scheme is challenged before the Court, the State opposes the same citing pendency of the review application. Such a conflicting stand of the State does not appear to be proper." The Group-C and D categories, along with the SSC teachers, had lost their jobs after the Supreme Court order on April 3, cancelling the appointments of 25,752 teaching and non-teaching staff in the cash-for-jobs scam last month. The West Bengal government had announced a stipend to Group-C and Group-D under the West Bengal Livelihood Social Security Interim Scheme, 2025 on a temporary basis, providing ₹25,000 and ₹20,000 for non-teaching staff Group-C and Group-D of the sacked employees respectively, to help their distressed families. They were recruited through the 2016 selection process conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission. Meanwhile, the High Court's order has sparked a political slugfest . Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stood by the employees and their families, who lost their jobs following the apex court order, and took a humanitarian step and decided to provide an interim relief. People can identify who went to court against such a humanitarian stand. Justice Amrita Sinha has given an interim stay today." Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari welcomed the court's decision, asserting that the Chief Minister cannot unilaterally disburse funds from relief accounts.

15 teachers dismissed in Buxar over selection irregularities
Buxar: Education department on Friday dismissed 15 teachers in Buxar who were appointed through the teachers' recruitment examination (TRE), citing serious irregularities in their selection. The action was taken by district education officer, Amarendra Kumar Pandey. According to official sources, 14 of the dismissed teachers are residents of Uttar Pradesh (UP), who fraudulently claimed the benefits of reservation meant exclusively for candidates with domicile of Bihar. In addition to this, these teachers secured less than the required 60% marks in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), making them ineligible under the general category. One more teacher was dismissed for not studying Urdu at the Intermediate level, despite being appointed as an Urdu teacher. The DEO cited official correspondence from the director of secondary education (letter no. 1341; May 15, 2024) and deputy director (letter no. 1507; July 15, 2024), which stated that reservation benefits are not to be extended to non-residents of Bihar.
