Al-Mashat discusses economic and investment ties with UK ambassador

Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat met with British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley to discuss ways to boost economic and investment relations and diversify financing mechanisms from British financial institutions for the private sector.
The meeting focused on ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the field of sustainable green transformation.
Mashat highlighted the strong economic ties between Egypt and the United Kingdom, both at the governmental level and in terms of private sector relations with British financial institutions. She emphasized Egypt's commitment to further developing bilateral relations across various sectors.
Regarding the Development Policy Financing (DPF) program, Mashat commended the UK's role in supporting Egypt's structural reforms through the program, which is being implemented in partnership with the World Bank. She also discussed cooperation under Egypt's national platform for the 'NWFE' program, which aims to drive climate investments in water, food, energy, and sustainable transport, in addition to preparations for the COP30 climate conference scheduled to be held in Brazil.
On empowering the private sector, Mashat noted that the UK has played an active role in launching the 'Hafez' platform, which enhances financial and technical support for both local and foreign private sector entities. The platform offers a range of initiatives and programs, including the Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA) and the A2D program, which supports clean energy research and development.
Mashat pointed out that trade relations between Egypt and the UK have grown significantly in recent years, as reflected in trade figures. 'Bilateral trade reached approximately £4.7 billion in 2024, indicating the strength of the economic partnership,' according to her. She highlighted that Egypt is now the 48th largest trading partner of the UK globally and that the UK ranks as one of Egypt's largest foreign investors.
On expanding the scope of British financial institutions' programs, the two sides discussed broadening the partnership in developmental cooperation programs and diversifying innovative financing sources for both public and private sectors, including mechanisms to finance small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Mashat invited the British ambassador to participate in an upcoming conference on development financing for private sector empowerment, organized by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation on Sunday.
The Egyptian-British relationship is multifaceted, with many British companies investing in Egypt. In 2020, the Egyptian planning ministry and the UK's Department for International Development issued a joint statement to strengthen economic ties between the two countries as part of the UK-Africa Investment Summit.
British financial institutions, including the British International Investment (BII), UK Export Finance, the British-Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) and the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce, have previously participated in the ministry's 'Strengthening Engagement with the Business Community for Innovation and Development' meetings, aimed at deepening relations between private sector companies and financial institutions.
BII's investments in Egypt currently total $850 million across more than 70 companies.

For Marwan Radwan, the point of the protest was to bring attention to the "genocide currently taking place" and the "dirty work" being done by the German government. H-Tayea Minister of Planning Rania Al-Mashat announced that Damietta governorate will receive EGP 7.3 billion in public investments for 180 development projects under Egypt's 2024/2025 national plan, excluding projects under the 'Haya Karima' rural development initiative. The announcement came during the launch of the 'Citizen Investment Plan' report for Damietta, which outlines project allocations across sectors and reflects the government's commitment to local development and transparency. The report also covers Egypt's broader development strategy and performance indicators at the governorate level. Other sectors will receive EGP 1.66 billion. Health investments include building Faraskour Central Hospital, expanding Damietta Oncology Hospital, and developing the Damietta Cardiac Hospital. Agriculture Minister: Farm coding reforms spur record Egypt Agri-export growth

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouq stated that Egypt's agricultural exports have witnessed substantial growth in recent months, largely attributed to the ongoing implementation of farm coding reforms. These reforms aimed at ensuring enhanced traceability, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance, the minister said during a meeting with Rabih Karaky, Practice Manager for Agriculture and Food for Middle East and North Africa Region at the World Bank. During the meeting, Farouq said that his ministry focuses on enhancing the added value of agricultural products and expanding agro-industrial activities to bolster the sector's contribution to the national economy. He underscored the implementation of a series of strategic national programs and initiatives designed to achieve vertical expansion by enhancing the productivity of land and water resources, alongside horizontal expansion to increase the total cultivated area and elevate agricultural output. He also highlighted initiatives focused on livestock development, including breed improvement programs and the 'Betalo' initiative, which aims to enhance national self-sufficiency in red meat production. Farouq added that the ministry is also implementing initiatives to modernize milk collection centers and advance the poultry and aquaculture sectors, as part of its strategy to reinforce Egypt's national food security framework. He also underlined the ministry's sustained commitment to empowering smallholder farmers by improving their access to financial resources and modern agricultural mechanization. The minister added that these efforts are undertaken alongside rural development initiatives under the presidential 'Decent Life' program, which aims to empower rural communities and foster the growth of micro- and small-scale enterprises. The minister further underlined the pivotal role of agricultural research institutions in driving innovation, particularly through the development of high-yielding, climate-resilient, and water-efficient crop varieties. For his part, Karaky commended Egypt's progress in the agricultural sector, reaffirming the World Bank's commitment to supporting sustainable agricultural development and investment within the country. He further noted that a comprehensive study is underway to assess the sector's future needs and identify opportunities for enhanced strategic cooperation.
