PM: The Arab and Development Summits reflected Iraq's strength and role
PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani met on Saturday a delegation of Arab media professionals who participated in the 4th Arab Media Conference, held in Baghdad last week.
Al-Sudani emphasized "the essential role of responsible and objective media in conveying facts to the public, especially concerning confronting challenges."
"Iraq is witnessing a qualitative shift across various aspects of life, public services, and development," he noted.
He also highlighted "the country's substantial efforts in launching strategic projects aimed at strengthening the national economy and achieving comprehensive integration, alongside ongoing infrastructure development and sustainable growth across all sectors."
"These advancements reaffirm Iraq's central and leading role in the region and its expanding engagement on the global stage," he pointed out, stressing that "the outcomes of both the Arab Summit and the Arab Development Summit, recently held in Baghdad, reflected Iraq's strength and its capacity to shape regional and international solutions."
Al-Sudani underscored "Iraq's growing stature serves as a pillar of strength for the Arab world, promoting regional stability, development, and shared interests, while expanding opportunities for deeper integration with neighboring Arab nations."
PM Al-Sudani paid "solemn tribute to the martyrs of the press who lost their lives during the aggression on Gaza and southern Lebanon," honoring "the sacrifices they made in exposing the suffering of the Palestinian people and bringing to light the crimes of genocide committed against them."
In turn, the visiting Arab media delegation extended its "congratulations to the Prime Minister on the successful hosting of the two summits in Baghdad, " commending "the rapid progress Iraq is achieving across multiple sectors."
They praised the country's ongoing reconstruction and development drive, describing it as a 'transformative chapter' in Iraq's modern journey.

Syrian aviation authority blocks AANES move on Qamishli Airport
Shafaq News/ On Saturday evening, the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) issued a statement rejecting the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria's (AANES) recent decision to establish a new authority for managing Qamishli International Airport. The SCAA stressed that the closure is binding on all local and international aviation entities, adding that it is the sole legally authorized body to manage airports and oversee air traffic within Syrian airspace. It further warned that any attempt to operate or utilize the airport without coordination with Damascus constitutes a violation of international aviation regulations. On June 19, the Executive Council of the AANES issued a decree establishing a general administration for Qamishli Airport, claiming authority over its operations. The council declared the move effective immediately and called on relevant parties to adhere to the new structure. Qamishli Airport has remained closed to civilian flights since the fall of the Al-Assad regime late last year. Since then, only Russian military aircraft have used the facility. Government institutions such as civil courts, population registries, and directorates of civil affairs, immigration, and passports also remain inactive in AANES-held areas, raising the risk of further administrative and political escalation.

Yemen to alert UN of states preparing to aid Israel
Shafaq News/ Yemen's Supreme Political Council President Mahdi al-Mashat announced plans to notify the United Nations of observed preparations by some countries to assist Israel in its military campaign against Iran. In remarks to Yemen News Agency (SABA) on Saturday, al-Mashat stressed that his country's decision is rooted in humanitarian, religious, and legal principles, calling on Arab and Islamic nations to 'take a unified stand instead of waiting to be targeted one by one.' 'The flames of war will eventually reach every corner of the region if we don't act together to stop the campaign of domination led by arrogant powers.' Reiterating Yemen's position on US involvement, al-Mashat confirmed that Washington would gain nothing by joining Israel's assault except what he described as a deeper entanglement in the conflict. 'Everyone will see that clearly,' he said. He further warned that any actor complicit in the Israeli attack must bear the consequences, revealing plans to direct the Foreign Ministry to notify the United Nations of observed preparations by some member states to assist in the aggression against Iran. 'Yemen will confront any such involvement through all legitimate means.' Earlier Saturday, Yemen's Ansarallah (Houthis) threatened to strike US naval vessels in the Red Sea if Washington supports Tel Aviv, accusing both the US and Israel of pursuing regional domination under coordinated efforts. The warning comes as Israel's Operation Rising Lion continues to target Iranian nuclear and military sites, killing senior IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists, while Iran's response—True Promise 3—has so far unleashed 18 waves of missile and drone attacks across Israeli territory.

Yemen's Houthis threaten to attack US ships in Red Sea
Dubai – Yemen's Houthi rebels threatened on Saturday to attack US vessels in the Red Sea, despite a recent truce, should Washington get involved in Israel's bombardment campaign against Iran. Israel launched unprecedented attacks on Iranian nuclear and military sites last week, drawing retaliation from Tehran. The United States, a key Israeli ally, has been weighing getting involved in the war. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, whose group is backed by Theran, warned in a video statement that 'if the United States gets involved in an attack and aggression against Iran with the Israeli enemy', the rebels 'will target its ships and warships in the Red Sea'. The Houthis, who control swathes of Yemen, have launched missiles and drones targeting Israel and Israel-linked Red Sea shipping throughout the Gaza war, claiming solidarity with Palestinians. After pausing attacks earlier this year during a two-month ceasefire in the Gaza war, which was sparked by an October 2023 attack by Iran-backed Palestinian group Hamas, the Houthis renewed threats to shipping in March over Israel's aid blockade of the Palestinian territory. This triggered a response from the US military, which began hammering the rebels with near-daily air strikes, until Oman mediated a US-Houthi truce in May. The Yemeni group has continued to target Israel, which carried out numerous strikes on Houthi-controlled areas. 'The Israeli enemy seeks complete control over the region… with open American support and American partnership, and is trying to remove the Islamic Republic of Iran because it considers it to be the greatest obstacle to achieving its plan,' Saree said.
