Uttarakhand introduces Automated Driving Test Tracks to enhance road safetySynopsis: The newly launched ADTTs, developed under the CSR initiative of Maruti Suzuki, are designed to evaluate driving skills for light motor vehicles (LMV) and two-wheelers, employing technology to remove human intervention from the testing process.
Uttarakhand has taken a step towards safer roads with the inauguration of Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Haridwar and Rishikesh by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, an initiative by Maruti Suzuki under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. It utilizes high-definition cameras and IT systems for transparent and efficient driver evaluations, aiming to ensure only skilled drivers obtain licenses and contribute to road safety in the state.
The newly launched ADTTs are designed to evaluate driving skills for light motor vehicles (LMV) and two-wheelers, employing technology to remove human intervention from the testing process. These tracks complement an existing ADTT in Dehradun, which has been in operation since 2019.
The ADTTs use high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems to assess driving skills. This automated system ensures a comprehensive, efficient, and transparent evaluation process for individuals seeking driving licenses. The evaluations are conducted in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR).
The Dehradun ADTT was previously recognised by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for Excellence and Good Governance in 2019-2020.
Brijesh Kumar Sant (IAS), Secretary Transport, Uttarakhand Government, said 'Our association with Maruti Suzuki goes back to 2009, when the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research was established in Dehradun. With the comprehensive evaluation at ADTTs, we can ensure that only skilled drivers get a driving license. Another state-run road safety initiative where we work with Maruti Suzuki is refresher training for commercial drivers before Char Dham yatra (holy pilgrimage). I also compliment the Company for steering this training program, which helps prepare drivers for the yatra route.'
Other CSR initiatives
Maruti Suzuki also conducts refresher training for commercial drivers in Uttarakhand before the annual Char Dham Yatra, which prepares drivers for the challenging hilly terrains along the pilgrimage route.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India, mentioned 'We thank the Uttarakhand Government for their continued association with Maruti Suzuki. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand is rapidly progressing. One of the key growth drivers for the state is tourism. Efficient and skilled drivers are needed to boost tourism and contribute to safer roads. Our Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) can play a vital role to achieve this goal by ensuring that only skilled and competent drivers receive a license through a 100 per cent computerised, transparent, and efficient testing process.'
The refresher training programme is a prerequisite for the mandatory Green Card, which is required for all commercial drivers during the Char Dham Yatra. This year, the training programme aims to cover approximately 11,000 drivers at the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTRs).

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Snapped Testing Again, What We Know So Far?

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the e Vitara in India. The electric car made its debut in Milan, followed by the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January, and has been revealed globally. Recently, Suzuki launched the all-electric e Vitara in the United Kingdom with a price tag of Euro 29,999 (around Rs 35 lakh) for the entry-level variant with a 49 kWh battery pack. Meanwhile, the top-end variant of the EV with Ultra AllGrip-e variant with a 61 kWh battery pack and all-wheel-drive powertrain comes at Euro 37,799 (approximately Rs 44 lakh). Also, a test mule of the all-electric car has been spotted testing in India, suggesting its launch to be slotted soon. Talking about its exterior and design, the e Vitara takes cues from the eVX concept, with the amalgam of the Emotional Versatile Cruiser concept. The front fascia is rather upright, and it looks SUV-ish in all regards. The use of blacked-out elements around the chin offers a rugged appeal to the nose. Around the sides, it gets black cladding for the hexagonal wheel arches. The roof profile is flat for the large part. The chunky flared arches add muscles to the design. The charging port is fixed on the front fender, and the bonnet here is a clamshell unit. Other highlights include a shark-fin antenna and c-pillar-mounted door handles. The Indian spec Suzuki E Vitara will come with two battery pack options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh (as offered in the UK). The smaller battery pack will offer a WLTP range of 346 km, while the bigger battery pack is rated to offer 428 km of range in its single-motor configuration. Meanwhile, the dual-motor variant with the 61 kWh battery pack will offer 412 km of range.

The 55th Anniversary Jimny leans heavily into retro charm, presenting itself as a modern nod to the model's early years Check Offers Suzuki has unveiled a highly exclusive 55th Anniversary Edition of the Jimny, a limited-production model that pays homage to the brand's iconic off-roader. Restricted to just 55 units and available only in France, this special edition marks a poignant farewell for the Jimny in European markets. With increasingly tight emission regulations phasing the model out, Suzuki's latest offering celebrates the Jimny's rugged heritage and enduring popularity among off-road enthusiasts. It mixes retro styling, necessary features, and some commemorative elements to appeal to collectors as well as loyalists. Priced at €28,955 (around ₹ 28.75 lakh), the 55th Anniversary Edition serves as both a collector's item and a symbolic send-off for one of Suzuki's most beloved models. Up front, a unique honeycomb grille features the full Suzuki script instead of the usual "S" badge, adding to its classic appeal. Rugged black-painted steel wheels enhance the vehicle's utilitarian aesthetic, and customers can select from four muted colour options: Jungle Green, Medium Gray, White, and Bluish Black. It is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 101 bhp and 130 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and Suzuki's AllGrip Pro 4WD system, complete with a low-range transfer case—ensuring the Jimny continues to punch well above its weight in off-road capability. Maruti Suzuki Swift completes 20 years on road. Here are 5 reasons why the hatchback is still relevant

The latest Swift was made narrower, taller and slightly wider while having the same wheelbase as the preceding model. Check Offers Even two decades after its Indian debut in May 2005, the Maruti Suzuki Swift continues to be one of the country's best-selling hatchbacks today. With over 3 million units sold and a 31 per cent market share in its segment, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has not only weathered the SUV storm but also emerged as a staple of Indian roads. In FY 2023-24 alone, the car sold nearly 2 lakh units, placing it third on the national sales chart. Through continuous innovation, smart pricing, and an unwavering focus on customers' needs, Swift has not just survived; it has thrived. And with a fifth-generation model reportedly in the pipeline, it looks like Swift's story is far from over. Here are five key reasons why the Swift remains a favourite even 20 years later: Design From its first iteration, the Swift stood out for its unconventional design language, particularly among other cars offered by Maruti Suzuki at the time. Its rounded proportions, upright stance, and compact dimensions helped it gain quick recognition. Over the years, while styling updates have modernised the hatchback, its basic silhouette has remained largely unchanged. The current fourth-generation Swift retains the signature design traits, including a prominent front grille, sharp headlamps, and a slightly squat rear profile. Though styling has evolved, the car still builds on the visual identity introduced in 2005, maintaining a link to earlier versions. Features and cost One reason for Swift's broad appeal has been its relatively balanced approach to pricing and equipment. Entry-level variants cover essential safety features such as ABS and airbags, while higher trims include equipment like touchscreen infotainment systems and alloy wheels. This allows the Swift to cater to a range of buyers with varying budgets. In addition to its features, the model tends to retain value well in the resale market, which makes it a practical choice for long-term ownership. It offers an ownership experience that is cost-conscious without appearing stripped-down. Fuel efficiency Fuel economy has consistently been a key focus in the Swift's development. Early models used reworked engines and gear ratios to improve consumption, and this emphasis has continued into the latest generation. The current Swift petrol variant is rated at 22.38 kmpl (claimed), and the CNG version at 30.9 km/kg. This puts it ahead of many hatchback rivals in terms of efficiency, particularly as fuel prices continue to influence buyer decisions. Maruti's focus on optimising mileage has helped the Swift remain relevant for those looking to minimise running costs. Driving experience While not positioned as a performance car, the Swift has generally offered a more engaging drive than some of its competitors. With its compact dimensions, relatively light weight, and predictable handling, it has appealed to drivers who want more than just point-to-point transport. Its driving dynamics have improved over generations, with refinements to steering, ride comfort, and body control, making it one of the more enjoyable hatchbacks in its segment without compromising on everyday usability. Support network and familiarity The Swift's longevity has been helped by Maruti Suzuki's widespread service infrastructure and relatively low cost of maintenance. For buyers in both urban and rural areas, the availability of parts and trained technicians makes ownership simpler. In addition, long-term familiarity with the model and its reputation for reliability has made it a trusted nameplate. Many buyers returning for their second or third car have shown a preference to stick with a vehicle they already understand. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2024, Best SUVs in India.
