Telangana to generate 20,000 MW of green power by 2030: Bhatti
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that the Telangana government has plans to generate 20,000 MW of green power by 2029 - 30.
Speaking to the media on Saturday after visiting the Greenko Integrated Power Project in Pinnapuram village, Orvakal Mandal, Kurnool district, he said that MoUs worth ₹1 lakh crore have already been signed for green power generation in Telangana. This was part of the 2025 New Energy Policy, aiming to achieve 20,000 MW of green power by 2029–30.
He pointed out that electricity consumption is rising across India, and if power is generated solely through coal, it increases costs and pollution, impacting the environment. However, Telangana government is exploring various avenues to enhance power generation and move toward surplus electricity. 'If production increases, employment and the State's GDP will grow. It's a continuous cycle,' he said.
The Deputy CM said he visited Greenko project to observe the green power production at their integrated project, which also exports electricity to other countries.
He praised Greenko Power for starting electricity production on schedule and noted that the company was producing electricity from solar, wind, and pumped storage at a single location spread across 4,000 acres, the first of its kind in the world. The production includes 4,000 MW through solar, 1,000 MW through wind, 1,680 MW through pumped storage totalling 6,680 MW of green power from a single site.
As part of his visit, he inspected key infrastructure, including the upper and lower reservoirs of the closed-loop pumped storage system, the powerhouse complex, and the advanced substation.

Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka HYDERABAD: Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday directed officials to seriously focus on increasing non-tax revenues and to secure a deserving share of central funds for Telangana . A meeting of the cabinet's assets sub-committee was held at the secretariat, attended by ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, along with Bhatti Vikramarka, who is heading it. The committee reviewed all the ongoing infrastructure projects and development works. The committee has been tasked to submit a report to the govt with recommendations of the budget that could be released to priority projects by categorising them into short and long-term projects. The report has to be submitted by June-end. Bhatti emphasised the need to not only enhance non-tax revenues but also to secure central funds. "The Congress govt, without discontinuing the welfare schemes launched during the previous BRS govt tenure, is also implementing new welfare programmes worth 33,600 crore. In the 2023-24 financial year, after coming to power, the govt faced revenue loss from the Outer Ring Road and excise income," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Bhatti listed out schemes like Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa and free electricity among others, and said the govt would implement all its assurances. Govt enhances electricity dept employees DA by 1.9%
Hyderabad: Telangana should emerge as a guiding force in the power sector for the entire country and the state government is moving ahead with a well-structured strategy to achieve this, said Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. He was addressing a gathering at Praja Bhavan on Saturday after officially announcing the hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for power department employees. The Deputy Chief Minister stated that employee welfare is a top priority for the state government and as part of this, the government has decided to enhance the DA by 1.944 percent for power employees and pensioners. This magnanimous decision by the government will benefit 71,417 employees and pensioners across the state, he added. The revised DA also applies to artisans along with power employees and pensioners. The DA has been increased from 14.074 percent to 16.018 percent, and the revised rate will be implemented retrospectively from January this year. The enhanced DA will result in an additional monthly burden of Rs.11.193 crore on power utilities. However, he emphasized that employee welfare remains the government's primary goal. Electricity has become as essential to industrial production in today's competitive world as air is to life. During the previous government's tenure, in March 2023, the peak power demand stood at 15,000 MW. After the Congress government assumed office, the demand rose to 17,162 MW by March 2025, an increase of 2,000 MW. Despite this sharp rise in demand, the government and power employees have worked like a family to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply, Bhatti Vikramarka reminded. He stated that looking ahead, the state government anticipates a steep rise in demand. According to a central government agency report, Telangana's peak power demand is projected to reach 26,299 MW by 2029–30 and 33,773 MW by 2034–35. To meet these future requirements, the state government is already planning ahead to boost power generation capacity, Bhatti Vikramarka said.
