MIS portal launched to provide information about land acquisition projects in Bihar

: Revenue and land reforms department on Tuesday launched
MIS portal
through which one can get information about
land acquisition projects
in one click.
Department minister Sanjay Saraogi said the MIS portal, launched under the aegis of the directorate of land acquisition of the department, has been developed to review the land acquisition action and to make it transparent and accessible. "Through this portal, a particular project can be reviewed immediately and action completed on time by resolving the errors and problems reflected in the system. This will help in completing the ongoing projects in the state on time," he said.
Additional chief secretary Deepak Kumar Singh, who was present on the occasion, said many land acquisition projects were going on in the state. "We hold meetings to monitor the projects. Now, it will be easy with the MIS portal to complete all the projects on time," he said.
The minister said the process of land acquisition was going on for many projects of railways, including Patna Metro, various airports and expressways in the state. "With this portal, information about the action being taken at every level will be available on the computer-laptop itself. This portal will also help in adding wings to the other development-oriented works of the state," he said.

Patna Multi-Modal Logistics Park
(MMLP) Project (105 acres approx), Vikramshila University Construction Project (205 acres approx) and projects related to road construction under NH, NHAI, MORTH, road construction department, besides various railway projects (including DFCCIL), related to construction of outposts and posts of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), airport construction at Gaya, Darbhanga and Purnia, land acquisition projects of water resources department for embankment/guide dam construction/repair etc.

Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan seeking that the Centre instruct National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) to procure mangoes under the price deficiency payment (PDP) and market intervention scheme (MIS) to bail out Karnataka's mango growers who are in distress due to crash in prices of the produce. In separate, but similarly worded, letters dated June 22, Mr. Gowda brought the plight of mango growers to the knowledge of both Mr. Modi and Mr. Chouhan and said that mango was one of the major horticultural crops in Karnataka, cultivated over an area of 1.39 lakh hectares, particularly in Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chickballapur, Kolar, and Bengaluru South (formerly Ramanagara) districts, with an estimated production of eight lakh to 10 lakh tonnes during the rabi season. However, due to weather vagaries and diseases, the mango yield has dropped to less than 30% this year, he pointed out. 'From May to June this year, heavy arrivals caused unsustainable price fluctuations. Prices fell from ₹12,000 per quintal to ₹3,000 per quintal, while the cultivation cost itself is ₹5,466 per quintal. This has financially stressed farmers, with many small and marginal mango growers unable to cover basic costs, leading to protests,' Mr. Gowda said. He expressed concern that Andhra Pradesh's ban on Totapuri mango varieties entering Chittoor district, adjacent to Karnataka, has disrupted the supply chain and resulted in a risk of post-harvest losses for Karnataka's border area mango growers. This has created tension among the mango growers, leading to protests in many districts, especially in Kolar and Chickballapur, he pointed out. The Chief Minister of Karnataka and the Chief Secretary have asked Andhra Pradesh to revoke this ban immediately. Additionally, the State government has requested the Centre to start procurement through Central agencies such as NAFED and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd. to aid farmers and alleviate rural distress, he noted. 'I request the Central government to instruct NAFED to procure mangoes under the PDP and MIS. This will support farmers by ensuring fair prices through direct purchases from farmers and through farmer producer organisations (FPOs),' he said. 'I trust that the Central government will promptly take appropriate actions to support Karnataka's mango growers by providing adequate financial benefits under various schemes,' he said.

Government may slow down declaring more state highways as National Highways
Representative Image NEW DELHI: In a major policy change, the Centre is preparing a model to provide financial assistance to state govts for one-time improvement of state highways rather than declaring more of these as NHs. The road transport ministry will instead focus on building more new greenfield highways and expressways. This comes after PM Narendra Modi's direction to the ministry to come up with a model by July end for the purpose. State govts will maintain the upgraded state highways. TOI has learnt that in the last infrastructure review meeting, Modi had asked the ministry to come up with innovative models for supporting state highway projects and connecting non-major ports under state govts. This change in approach gains importance considering that in the last 11 years, govt has notified conversion of 55,000 km of state highways to NHs and now, the total length of NHs stands at 1.46 lakh km. This has been highlighted as one of the biggest achievements of govt. Sources said that after expanding the NH network, now there is a need to focus more on widening them and maintaining them. Data shows that till March, India has more than 63 lakh km of road network.

Patna Metro's first corridor set to roll by August 15: 6.5km 'blue line' nears finish line; key stations almost ready, trial runs soon
Patna's first metro corridor, the 'blue line', is nearing completion and is expected to be operational by August 15, 2025. This elevated section of Corridor II includes five stations and is 6.49 km long. PATNA: Patna's first metro corridor, the 'blue line', is expected to become operational within the next 60 days. This elevated section of Corridor II (Patna Junction-ISBT) of the Patna Metro Rail Project is nearly complete. The 6.49-km route includes five elevated stations - Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhoothnath, Zero Mile and ISBT. Metro officials said 90% of the work on the priority corridor has been completed and operations are scheduled to begin by Aug 15, 2025. "Final touches are being given at some stations while others are in the last phase of civil and electrical works. Installation of tracks and electric poles is ongoing," they said. U-girders have been placed at Khemnichak, platform casting has started at ISBT and purlin installation is underway at Bhoothnath station. Civil works at the ISBT Metro Rail Depot - spanning 76 acres - are complete with finishing work in progress. Regular review meetings are being held to meet the project deadline. Urban development and housing minister Jibesh Kumar said the corridor was in its final stage. The development area will also include an auditorium, training school, canteen, and operational control centre. An auxiliary substation of 2,500 KVA will support the power needs of the depot. Each metro station will consist of two levels - concourse and platform. The concourse will house ticket counters, waiting areas, information kiosks, public announcement systems, check-in/out facilities, food courts, retail shops and accessibility features such as lifts, escalators and stairways. Khemnichak station, a key interchange, will have three levels and two platforms, allowing seamless connectivity between Corridor I (Danapur-Khemnichak) and Corridor II. The Patna Metro project has an estimated cost of Rs 13,925 crore. The state govt will cover 20% of the cost (excluding land acquisition), another 20% will come from the Centre and the remaining 60% will be funded through a loan from JICA.
