UDST students achieve second place at Shell Eco-Marathon Europe and Africa

Tribune News Network Doha University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) has announced that its Wolves Racing Team has secured second place in the Autonomous Urban Concept category at the prestigious Shell Eco-Marathon Europe and Africa 2025 regional competition, held in Poland. The event featured 120 student teams from 25 countries across Europe and Africa. The student-built autonomous electric vehicle, fully designed and developed in-house at UDST's campus, reflects the University's advanced applied learning model, and showcases the students' exceptional technical expertise in engineering, automation, and sustainable mobility. The vehicle successfully met and passed stringent European autonomous driving regulations, highlighting a significant milestone that demonstrates the technical sophistication and reliability of the design. Notably, this year marked the Wolves Racing Team's debut participation in the autonomous vehicle category, competing as the sole non-European team among a highly competitive field of global universities within this category. The organising and judging teams of this competition expressed their admiration and appreciation for the technology used as well as the technological competitiveness demonstrated by the university students during their participation in this type of competition, especially in designing and building the car in record time. Commenting on this achievement, Dr Salem Al-Naemi, president of UDST, stated: 'This remarkable accomplishment reflects the strength of UDST's applied education approach, empowering our students to transform knowledge into real-world innovations. Designing and building an autonomous electric vehicle from initial concept to participation in international competitions requires advanced technical expertise, innovation, and a commitment to achieving the highest standards of quality and excellence. The Wolves Racing Team has demonstrated that Qatar's youth are fully capable of competing on the international stage, contributing to the advancement of sustainable technologies in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the priorities of the Third National Development Strategy.' Dr Awni Al-Otoom, dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at UDST, also commented: 'This accomplishment is the culmination of the learning journey initiated after our students took part in Shell Eco-Marathon in Indonesia and Qatar. Throughout this experience, they further developed their competencies and expanded their expertise in the field of vehicle engineering. We take great pride in their success, which exemplifies the strength of UDST's engineering curriculum and the faculty's dedication to preparing students for the demands of today's dynamic industrial sector.' Rob Maxwell, managing director of Shell Companies Qatar, added, 'We are incredibly proud to see a Qatari team excel on the international stage. Wolf Racing's success at Shell Eco-marathon Europe and Africa is a shining example of the innovation and talent emerging from the region. Following the success of our regional event in Doha earlier this year, it's inspiring to see a local team carry that momentum onto the international stage and deliver such an outstanding performance. This is exactly the kind of innovation and ambition we aim to foster through our programmes.' Shell Eco-Marathon is one of the world's leading competitions in energy efficiency, challenging teams to design, build, and test advanced, high-efficiency vehicles. UDST's continued participation in such global platforms reflects its commitment to promoting innovation, applied research, and hands-on learning that prepare students to become future-ready professionals.

GTA extends tax certificate validity to ease compliance

Tribune News Network Doha The General Tax Authority (GTA) has announced an extension of the validity period for several key tax certificates, in a move aimed at simplifying tax-related procedures and offering greater support to taxpayers. As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the taxpayer experience, the GTA has extended the validity of the non-objection certificate (NOC) for change of ownership to 180 days, allowing taxpayers additional time to complete relevant transactions. In a significant digital services upgrade, the tax compliance certificate can now be issued through the Dhareeba tax portal, with its validity extended from one month to a full year. This certificate is a crucial document that confirms a taxpayer's compliance with all applicable tax obligations, helping facilitate smoother interactions with public and private entities and boosting investor confidence. The NOC for commercial registration cancellation and the disbursement of dues certificate have also seen an increase in their validity period to 90 days, reducing the need for reapplication and giving taxpayers more time to complete the required steps. The GTA emphasised that these updates are part of a broader commitment to service improvement and digital transformation. All updated certificates and related services are available through the Dhareeba platform, which continues to provide taxpayers with flexible, efficient tools for managing their tax affairs. These enhancements reflect the GTA's strategic objective to foster a more transparent, efficient, and investor-friendly tax environment in Qatar. By reducing administrative burdens and leveraging digital platforms, the Authority aims to further strengthen compliance and support the country's economic diversification goals in line with Qatar NationalVision 2030.
