Irreplaceable BBC radio legend confirms exit after 16 years

It comes as BBC Radio 6 shared its spring and summer programming with listeners.
The 45-year-old who is known for presenting New Music Fix Daily with Deb Grant (Mondays – Thursdays, 7-9pm) and The Ravers Hour (Fridays, 11pm-12am) said it's 'been a blast' and "it's been a tough decision to make" as he steps down from both shows in a few weeks' time.
Tom Ravenscroft to leave BBC Radio 6 after 16 years
In a post on Instagram, he said: 'It's with a heavy heart that I announce that after 16 years I'm to leave Radio 6 Music at the end of May. New ventures, foreign travels and being around to do the school run beckons.
"It's been a tough decision to make, I've met so many wonderful people as a result of this job and will be forever grateful. You couldn't ask for a more fabulous community.
"Thanks to everyone who tuned in, sent music, recorded sessions, put together mixes and sent funny emails. It's been such a treat to have been able to do this job; listening to everyone's creations, building shows and sharing what I've found.
"I'd like to think we all have bigger, better and more interesting record collections as a result of the time we've spent together.
"Special thanks to all the producers, assistants, engineers and presenters I've worked with over the years. It's been a ball, thanks for having me."
Tom's final New Music Fix Daily show will be Thursday, May 29, and his final edition of The Ravers Hour will be Friday, May 30.
As he confirmed his exit from the popular station, Samantha Moy, head of BBC Radio 6 Music said Tom is 'irreplaceable' and 'quite simply a 6 Music legend'.
She commented: 'On behalf of us all at 6 Music, I want to thank Tom Ravenscroft for his huge contribution to 6 Music over the years – for his work spotlighting formidable electronic artists with his own shows, including the peerless Ravers Hour, as well as shaping the sound of our evenings with New Music Fix Daily and his incredible series, Peel Acres.
'He is quite simply a 6 Music legend: iridescent and irreplaceable - we will all miss him.'
Joining Deb to present New Music Fix Daily from Monday, June 2 (7-9pm) is Nathan Shepherd.
Nathan will continue to present Indie Forever on Fridays (9-11pm), which was recently nominated for an Audio and Radio Industry Award (ARIA) and a New York Festivals Radio Award.
Nathan shared: "All my life I've been passionate about new music. Without new music there's no future in music.
'I'm so excited to be a part of the New Music Fix Daily team and to present alongside the amazing Deb Grant."

BBC Radio 1 star, Lauren Layfield, usually presents Life Hacks with Pete Allison, but told fans she has to miss today's programme due to a nauseating condition BBC's Lauren Layfield has admitted she is "gutted" she can't present her popular Radio 1 show today after revealing she has vertigo. Lauren, 37, usually hosts Life Hacks, which helps 'hack your life to make it better' alongside Pete Allison, but today she's had to step down. Taking to X, sharing an image of someone strapped into a chair, upside down, clinging on for dear life, wearing a mask, she posted: "Gutted missing Life Hacks today, I've got b****y vertigo. But don't worry, my exec @petelinney has told me there's a vertigo treatment where you get strapped into this chair and spun round really fast, so will probably do that this afternoon," followed by a string of shocked emojis. ‌ READ MORE: Jamie Laing and pregnant Sophie Habboo break silence on 'tense street exchange' ‌ According to the NHS, vertigo is the feeling that you, or the environment around you, is moving or spinning. The feeling may be barely noticeable, or it may be so severe that you find it difficult to keep your balance and do everyday tasks. Vertigo can develop suddenly and last for a few seconds or much longer. Its symptoms include: loss of balance – which can make it difficult to stand or walk - feeling sick or being sick and dizziness. Lauren began her radio career in July 2018, when she began covering weekend shows on Capital FM. She later presented the station's Capital Early Breakfast show from 2019 until September 2023. In November 2023, it was announced that she would be joining BBC Radio 1 in January 2024, presenting the Friday morning Early Breakfast show throughout the month. In March 2024, the presenter bagged a permanent role on Radio 1 from April 2024, co-presenting the station's Life Hacks programme alongside Newsround's Shanequa Paris. ‌ Life Hacks is a programme and podcast, formerly presented by Vick Hope and Katie Thistleton. The show began in 2017, replacing The Surgery in the Sunday teatime slot. The punchy programme discusses health and social issues such as exam stress, sexual health, alcohol and drugs, in the hope of alleviating some of the strain the topics can bring to listener's lives. The original presenters were Cel Spellman, Katie Thistleton and Radha Modgil. In August 2020, Cel was replaced by Vick Hope. Vick, who is married to DJ, Calvin Harris, has now gone on maternity leave as she prepares to welcome the couple's first child.

Tom Grennan undergoes surgery to remove metal plates from his jaw

Chart-topping singer Tom Grennan required surgery on an old jaw injury (Picture: John Phillips/Bafta/Getty Images for Bafta) Tom Grennan has undergone some pretty intense surgery to remove metal plates from his jaw. The 30-year-old singer was hospitalised at the age of 18 after being attacked by a group of strangers in his hometown of Bedford. As a result, he needed to have screws and metal plates fitted to his jaw to fix his injuries. However, the plates recently started to cause complications, so he underwent another operation earlier this year to have them taken out. He told The Times newspaper: 'They were pushing themselves out of my gums … [Having surgery] was a relief for me. I'm no longer reminded of that time in my life. 'It was like I closed the door, and that was me being released, I suppose.' The songwriter started experiencing complications with the metal plates in his jaw (Picture: Instagram) At the age of 18, Tom was attacked by a group of strangers in his hometown (Picture: Farrell/Backgrid) During the interview, Tom admitted the attack left him with lasting physical and mental injuries, and it took him years to recover. 'I think that was the first time my world came crashing down, the first time I really knew what it was like to be depressed, to feel suicidal, like nobody loved me. 'From one little thing that somebody did. One punch caused an earthquake, a tsunami. It took me years to open up.' However, he credited the trauma from the attack with leading him to embrace songwriting and kickstart his creativity. 'The attack was horrible, but it allowed me to open up another part of my mind. I'd never written a song before it,' he revealed. As well as having surgery on his jaw this year, Tom also went under the knife to fix a tendon injury, and he recently admitted the recovery process has been tough as he battled anxiety issues. Tom is admired by fans for speaking openly about his mental health (Picture: David Fisher/Global/Shutterstock) Tom told MailOnline last month: 'I'm a person like everybody who suffers with anxiety and mental health. 'I've got a bad ankle; I've had to have an operation to get a tendon rebuilt, so I was in a boot for eight weeks. It's not good; it's a long recovery. 'So we'll see what I can do. I'm going to have to get it strapped up—I'm still not comfortable with it. I think that's where a lot of my anxiousness over the past few months has come from.' The Little Bit of Love hitmaker has long spoken openly about his mental health. In conversation with Roman Kemp for mental health charity YoungMinds last year, Tom reflected on feeling like he was in a 'sinking hole' when he was younger. 'I couldn't get out of bed,' he admitted. 'I thought the whole world was against me. I thought I wasn't good enough. I never had been somebody who would talk about my feelings, especially to my friends and not to my parents, either. In recent years, he's become one of the most recognisable voices on UK radio (Picture: PA Wire) Later this year, Tom will head out on his biggest tour to date, performing in arenas up and down the country (Picture: Farrell/Backgrid) 'So then I started to just write little notes in a notepad and then picked up a guitar.' As he began processing his own emotions, it also allowed Tom to open up to his mum and form a deeper connection with her. The star first found fame as the guest vocalist on Chase & Status's All Goes Wrong in 2016 and has gone on to become a huge presence in the UK music scene. Tom released his debut album in 2018, which peaked at number five in the charts, before his next two records both hit number one. Later this year, he'll embark on his biggest ever tour, playing in arenas across the country. Got a story? Top summer beauty trends from Kate Middleton's hair colour to no-smudge mascara

From the shades of the season to must-have buys, here are the buzzwords to have on your radar as we – and experts – round up the 10 best beauty trends for summer 2025 We're now well into summer, and if you want to know what beauty products, treatments and trends are worth trying this summer, you're in luck. We've rounded up our pick of the best viral beauty trends that you'll actually want to wear, from the products our team can't live without to inspiration for you next appointment at the hair or nail salon. Here's what's hot right now... 10 biggest beauty trends for summer 2025 Mocha bronde Mocha Mousse is Pantone's Colour of the Year, and it's made its way to become a top hair colour trend for summer, says hair stylist and trends forecaster Tom Smith. Described by Tom as 'monochromatic and muted', at the salon ask for neutral mushroom and cool coffee tones running throughout (steer clear of caramels), and you could benefit from using a blue or purple shampoo or conditioner like John Frieda Blue Crush Blue Conditioner, currently £6.89, every couple of weeks, too. Tubing mascara If you find that your mascara typically doesn't last long on your lashes in hot weather, or when sweating or swimming, it's time to try a tubing mascara. Unlike traditional formulas (think of them like paint), tubing mascaras contain polymers that form 'tubes' around each eyelash, lengthening them then setting in place without smudging or flaking. They also remove differently, too, sliding off each hair with warm water and a gentle rub – making them ideal for eyes prone to stinging. Too Faced Ribbon Wrapped Lash Mascara, £28 – read my full review of this mascara here Revolution Wrap Lash Tubing Mascara, currently £7.99 (usual price £10.99) K-beauty Korean beauty certainly isn't a new trend, but with the recent launch of cult favourite K-beauty brands in the UK, such as Beauty of Joseon at Boots and Belif on Beauty Bay and Amazon, it's now easier than ever to give them a try. Korean formulas are known for being especially hydrating with a dewy finish, yet incredibly lightweight, making them ideal for summer, when applying heavy cream in hot weather might not be that appealing. SPF superstars Sunscreen is often seen as more of a chore than a treat, but facial SPF formulations have come on in leaps and bounds – so there's really no excuse not to wear it every day. Merit's The Uniform Tinted Mineral SPF 50, £34, launched with a waitlist of over 20,000, while beauty editors have been singing the praises of Ultra Violette Future Fluid SPF 50+ Superlight Mineral Skinscreen, £38. Created to be make-up-friendly, Olay Brighten & Glow Vitamin C Moisturising Fluid SPF 50+, £26, looks set to be the high street's big hitter – and you can often find it on offer, too. Fruity fragrances Perfumes take their inspiration from fruits, with juicy concoctions creating dreamy scents. Try PHLUR Peach Skin Body Mist, from £25, Ariana Grande R.E.M. Cherry Eclipse Eau de Parfum, currently £36 (usual price £45), or Jo Loves With Love From Como, £135, with zesty notes of grapefruit and clementine. And look out for a lip-smacking new launch from Jo Malone London next month. Sunscreen oils They're back – but with a big difference. Unlike the sometimes dangerously low (or even no) protection tanning oils of the past, Bali Body's new Watermelon Sunscreen Oil SPF 50, £22.95, comes with super-high broad spectrum sun protection for that gleaming-limb look without risking your skin. It smells incredible, too – like summer in a bottle. Neck care In summer there's little chance to hide under high-neck jumpers, so if you're not already paying attention to the skin under your chin, you really should be, say the experts and – judging by all the new neck creams being launched and the interest we get from readers whenever we write about them – it's clearly an area worth paying attention to. Boost Lab's Edelweiss Neck Firming Serum, £24.99, is good value with impressive shopper results, while Prai Ageless Throat & Decolletage Creme, £31.99, continues to be the best-selling neck cream at M&S. Butter yellow Striking the perfect balance between cute and cool, butter yellow continues to be fashion's colour of the season, with celebrities including Cynthia Erivo, Victoria Beckham and The Princess of Wales all spotted wearing outfits in the surprisingly flattering shade recently. For a low cost, low commitment way to try the trend, pick up a nail polish such as Essie's Summer Soulstice, £8.99, or OPI's Nature Strong in Make My Daisy, £18.50. In the nail salon, ask for Bio Sculpture's Alinta or The GelBottle's Sorbet shades of polish. Berry girl make-up Every season there seems to be a new food-themed make-up style, and this summer it's 'berry girl', made popular by Hailey Bieber (who else?) recently. Although tones of cherry, plum and raspberry worn on lips, cheeks and nails may seem more suited to winter, it's a surprisingly fresh and youthful summer look. Try Charlotte Tilbury's Unreal Blush Stick in Berry Glow, £30, and for lips, e.l.f. Glow Reviver Melting Lip Balm in Yummy Gummy, £9. Riviera bob Article continues below Bobs have been trending for years, but this summer the way to wear them is bouncy and voluminous, yet slightly ruffled and undone – think Aubrey Plaza's character, Harper, in season two of The White Lotus, embracing just a touch of holiday hair humidity. To get the riviera bob look, 'ask your stylist for a straight bob cut just longer than your chin,' says Tom Smith. 'Some soft, very long layering should be cut with a shattered finish – avoid steps or blunt lines, and keep any fringe area longer and blended into the rest of the shape.'
