HBO's Harry Potter: All about the new series
In the early 2000s, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint became globally famous, thanks to the Harry Potter movie series. HBO is working with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros to make a TV series based on the franchise. Mark Mylod will direct several episodes, and Francesca Gardiner will write and run the show. JK Rowling, Ruth Kenley-Letts, Neil Blair, and David Heyman, the producer of the Harry Potter movie, are among the executive producers.
Rowling's 'controversial' stance on trans rights in recent times has, however, led to some criticism about her involvement in the project. Casey Bloys, the HBO content chief, recently dismissed concerns that the show would be influenced by those viewpoints, stating that the emphasis is still on authentically interpreting the books.
When and where to watch the new HBO Harry Potter series?
Shooting for the new Harry Potter TV series will begin in the summer of 2025. The release is planned for 2026. We expect more casting announcements soon. The goal of the project is to give fans a fresh take on the series.
Netizens' reaction to the new cast of HBO's Harry Potter series
The internet has been divided over the new cast of the series, with many fans embracing the fresh faces and others sceptical about the reboot.
One user wrote: 'Please tell Dominic, Arabella, and Alastair they are already loved by the fandom. We can't wait to see the show!'
Another added: 'Not bad at all. Good luck to them. Hope they have fun making this for a new generation of Potterheads.'
A fan praised the casting of Arabella Stanton as Hermione, noting: 'She actually looks like book Hermione — even the teeth Emma Watson didn't have.'
However, not all reactions were positive. Some fans expressed disappointment, particularly with the casting of Snape and Hermione:
'After miscasting Snape, I have no faith left,' one fan wrote. Another added, 'The movies are superior — this remake will flop.'
Despite the mixed reviews, excitement remains high, with many eager to see how this new generation of actors will bring Hogwarts back to life.

JK Rowling REVIEWS First Two Episodes Of Harry Potter Series; Here's What She Says

Last Updated: Author JK Rowling supports HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series. She collaborated with writers but isn't credited. Author JK Rowling has publicly extended her support for HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series. As production gears up, Rowling took to X to express her enthusiasm for the show. She also revealed that she has collaborated closely with the 'extremely talented writers" working on the project, although she won't be credited as a writer as she was for the Fantastic Beasts films, according to Variety. On X, JK Rowling offered a verbal sneak peek into how the much-anticipated Harry Potter series is shaping. She wrote, 'I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD (sic)." I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) June 21, 2025 A user asked her if she is writing for the show too. The bestselling author said, 'No, but I've worked closely with the extremely talented writers (sic)." No, but I've worked closely with the extremely talented writers.— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) June 21, 2025 Variety also noted that HBO had made it clear from the outset that Rowling would be involved in reviving the franchise for television, with each book in the series being adapted into a full season. Network CEO Casey Bloys had earlier told the press that Rowling played a significant role in the selection of showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, who are leading the creative vision for the show. Rowling, however, remains a polarising figure due to comments she has posted on social media since 2020, which many view as transphobic. She frequently uses platforms like X to challenge her critics and respond to public figures, including calling out John Oliver over his comments about trans athletes. Who will play Harry, Hermoine and Ron in Harry Potter series? Previously portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint respectively, fresh faces will take over the popular characters in the series. Dominic McLaughlin will take the titular role, while Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout will be the new Ronald Weasley. Other actors have been selected to portray key members of well-known families like the Malfoys, Weasleys, and Dursleys, as well as some Hogwarts students. Familiar characters such as Molly Weasley, Draco and Lucius Malfoy, Petunia and Vernon Dursley will appear in the series. Additionally, characters like Cornelius Fudge, Parvati Patil, Seamus Finnigan, and Lavender Brown will also feature in the upcoming show. Katherine Parkinson will take on the role of Molly Weasley, originally played by Julie Walters in the films. Lox Pratt has been cast as Draco Malfoy, and Johnny Flynn will play his father, Lucius, roles previously portrayed by Tom Felton and Jason Isaacs. Bel Powley will depict Petunia Dursley, Harry's unkind aunt, a role once held by Fiona Shaw. Daniel Rigby will assume the part of Vernon Dursley, succeeding the late Richard Griffiths. Bertie Carvel will take on the role of Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, originally played by Robert Hardy. New Hogwarts students include Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown. First Published:

The Gilded Age Season 3 returns with drama and shift in power dynamics — full Episode 1 recap and Episode 2 release date

The Gilded Age Season 3: The Gilded Age is back, and the power plays are only just beginning. After a season-long hiatus, HBO's opulent period drama has returned with its third season, once again diving into the glittering world of 1880s New York high society. With old money clashing against new wealth and personal ambitions threatening to upend tradition, The Gilded Age wastes no time getting back into its trademark social tug-of-war. If Episode 1 left you craving more, we've got you covered with a detailed recap of everything that went down, from Bertha Russell's Opera House triumph to the growing tension between Ada and Agnes, and a look at when Season 3 Episode 2 will release. Here's everything you need to know. What's The Gilded Age Season 3 about? Created by Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes, The Gilded Age explores the collision of wealth, power, and rigid social mores. The fresh season explores the intrigue among four central families: the nouveau-riche Russells (Baranski, Spector, Brown), the aristocratic van Rhijns (Nixon, Walter), the free-thinking Scotts (Benton, Nathan Lane), and the newly arrived Marian Brook (Jacobson). The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 1 recap In the Season 3 opener Who Is in Charge Here?, The Gilded Age turns its gaze to the once-solid bond between sisters Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon) and Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski). After losing her fortune in Season 2, Agnes expected life to go on as usual until Ada, newly wealthy from her late husband's estate, casually invites the Temperance League into their Fifth Avenue parlour. Agnes's calm authority shatters as she watches Ada, for the first time, boss around servants and guests with a thrill in her voice. Every pointed question Agnes tosses Ada's way, 'Who's in charge here?' echoes the shock of a household turned upside down. For Agnes, identity and power were inseparable, as she'd always been the older sister, the decision-maker. Stripped of her savings and status, she's left to grapple with an unfamiliar role of spectator in her own home. Baranski describes this as Agnes's toughest challenge yet, learning that deference and privilege aren't guaranteed, no matter your birthright. Ada, who once shied away from every big choice, now feels the rush of calling the shots. Nixon notes Ada's decision-making 'muscles' are new and untested, but she dives in headfirst, delighting in directing household business and discovering a side of herself she never knew existed. It's a heady mix of excitement and uncertainty, as Ada balances newfound power with the fear of misstep. The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 2 release date and time New episodes drop weekly—Episode 2 of The Gilded Age Season 3 premieres Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and Max. Don't miss the next chapter in this lavish portrait of ambition and change. For more news and updates from the world of Hollywood, keep reading Indiatimes Entertainment.

Warner Bros Discovery restructuring may back India OTT plans—but faces challenges

Warner Bros Discovery's decision to split its streaming and studio business from its traditional TV networks may give a fresh push to its digital plans in India—but growing in the country's crowded and price-sensitive OTT market won't be easy. Under the restructuring, Global Networks will house entertainment, sports and news television brands such as CNN and Discovery, along with digital products including the discovery+ streaming platform. The newly formed Streaming & Studios entity will comprise Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group and DC Studios, which will continue releasing their films theatrically in India. David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, said in a global release, 'By operating as two distinct and optimised companies, we are empowering these brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today's evolving media landscape." Also read: Why Warner boss Zaslav is having to split up the media empire he built 'This separation will invigorate each company by enabling them to leverage their strengths and specific financial profiles. This will also allow each company to pursue important investment opportunities and drive shareholder value," added CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels. India playbook challenges The separation could allow Warner Bros Discovery to invest more aggressively in OTT in India, especially in subscription-based models. However, the challenges are plenty. Currently, the company only runs the discovery+ streaming service in India, while syndicating most of its intellectual property (IP) to JioHotstar. Experts believe that the platform, now free from having to serve traditional TV audiences, could lean into bold, edgy content aimed at younger demographics. 'The digital business isn't big in India, and it will have to show revenue now," said Girish Dwibhashyam, streaming industry expert and former vice-president and chief operating officer of DocuBay, a documentary streaming service. 'The split could rejuvenate their investments in OTT but it would also bring down their negotiating power with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and aggregators for distribution partnerships since it would no longer come under the same umbrella as broadcast," he added. While Warner Bros Discovery has dabbled in infotainment, science, and mythology in India, Dwibhashyam sees room for more daring content experiments. Given that they no longer have the baggage of producing the same programming for both TV and OTT, the company could explore edgier themes, he said. Also read: Online games and self-publishing platforms: movie producers tap new avenues for fresh plotlines Vinay V. Singh, managing director (USA), Primus Partners, added that the company could now double down on high-quality originals and global formats. 'These are key to capturing Indian millennials and Gen Z in a fiercely competitive OTT landscape," he said. Singh also said HBO-branded content, currently available via video-on-demand through partnerships like JioHotstar, may gain more muscle with renewed global backing. Despite the digital optimism, linear television remains dominant in India, especially in smaller towns and non-English-speaking markets. However, if other global media giants follow Warner Bros Discovery's decoupling strategy, standalone TV units may need to raise ad or subscription rates to remain viable. This could further drive viewers toward cheaper OTT platforms, including those that rely on advertising-based video-on-demand (AVoD). Industry experts anticipate that the decoupling trend could push streaming companies to innovate their pricing models. Expect bundles that include local originals, micropayments, ad insertions, and dynamic pricing to boost reach while protecting average revenue per user (ARPU). Subscription blues Yet, streaming monetization remains a hurdle in India. According to a report by Ormax Media, India's video streaming audience stood at 547.3 million, but active paid subscriptions stagnated at 99.6 million. Notably, the SVoD (subscription video-on-demand) audience declined by 2% in 2024, even as the AVoD base grew by 21%. 'Foreign companies haven't really seen India as a hot market. Plus, there isn't real value in SVoD yet," said Sunil Lulla, founder, The Linus Adventures. Warner Bros Discovery has also refrained from fully adopting the ad-supported model in India. Last year, Sai Abishek, head of factual and lifestyle cluster, South Asia, had said the platform would continue to focus primarily on a subscription-driven model. What's next While Warner Bros Discovery declined to comment on Mint's queries for this story, industry watchers say the company's strategic split could be a reset moment for its India plans. However, competing in a saturated market—dominated by players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, and SonyLIV—will demand more than just capital. It will require smart partnerships, platform innovation, and the courage to bet big on differentiated content. Also read: Few winners, many misses in Bollywood's lopsided H1 recovery story
