Seven events planned for Sabah Governor's birthday celebration

KOTA KINABALU (May 14): Seven events have been organized in conjunction with the 72nd Official Birthday Celebration of the Governor of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, starting from June 14.
Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam, who is also the chairman of the Main Celebration Committee, stated that related programs have been arranged to enliven the occasion.
'This year, we only have seven events or seven programs, which we hold annually.
'The first will be a tea party with special-needs children on June 14.
'After that, on June 15, we will hold Sabah Ethnic Day. We believe that Tun, as the Governor, is the umbrella for all the people of Sabah, so this event is to celebrate everyone in Sabah.
'Following that, on June 19, there will be a tahlil (prayer recitation) and thanksgiving ceremony. As usual, on June 21, we will hold the official parade ceremony, the Conferment of Sabah State Awards, Honors and Medals, and the State Banquet in the evening,' he told the media after paying a courtesy visit to Tun Musa at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Wednesday.
He added that the Sabah Ethnic Day Celebration, scheduled to take place at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), is expected to bring together nearly all ethnic groups in the state, with an estimated attendance of over 1,000 visitors.
Also present were Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah and director of the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department, Datuk Jumain Abdul Ghani.

Video clip case: MACC calls in another Sabah politician
KOTA KINABALU: Another Sabah politician has been summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to give a statement at the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex on Monday (June 23) morning. It is learnt that the state assistant minister was called in as part of the ongoing investigation into a corruption case involving a mining prospecting scandal. A source said that the politician, who is a state assemblyman and also a Member of Parliament, arrived at the MACC office at about 9am, accompanied by two lawyers. Also expected to be charged is a whistleblower known as "Albert", previously linked to the circulation of video clips related to the case. The alleged offences are believed to have occurred between 2023 and last year, involving the solicitation and receipt of bribes amounting to approximately RM200,000 in connection with the processing of mineral exploration licence applications. Both individuals have since been released on MACC bail and are expected to be charged at the end of the month.

DPMs, Cabinet Ministers Convey Condolences Over Death Of Sarawak Premier's Wife
KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) – Deputy Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers conveyed their condolences to Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg over the death of the Sarawak Premier's wife Puan Sri Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang today. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a statement, described her passing as a great loss to the people of the state. He added that her loss is not only felt by her immediate family but is also mourned by the people of Sarawak, who greatly valued her contributions and service. "The Premier's late wife, whom I had the honour of knowing, was a gracious and gentle soul who was deeply committed to charitable and social work, especially in empowering women and communities in Sarawak. 'I represented the federal government this morning in visiting the Sarawak Premier's family, conveying our condolences and expressing the solidarity and prayers of all Malaysians in this time of sorrow. 'I pray that Allah will shower His mercy upon her soul, forgive all her sins, and place her among the righteous. May Abang Johari and his family be granted strength, patience and acceptance in facing this trying time,' he said. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in a Facebook post, expressed his condolences and described her passing as a significant loss to the people of Sarawak. "It is a great loss not only to the family of the deceased but also to the people of Sarawak. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Premier and all members of her family," he said. Several Cabinet Ministers also conveyed their condolences through official statements and social media posts.

Embrace diversity as a strength, not a source of division
KUCHING: Racial diversity should be embraced as a strength to enhance national unity, rather than as a battleground for rivalry or a means to showcase superiority and ego, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. He said that in many other countries, such diversity has led to racial and religious hostility, eventually burdening the nation and negatively affecting the people. 'Unity within our multiracial society is increasingly essential to ensure that Malaysia remains strong amid the current uncertain global geopolitical landscape. 'Never underestimate the potential problems if you are disunited. The geopolitical conditions are so challenging and alarming. The future is never certain. But what we can ensure is a united Malaysia,' he said. Anwar was speaking at the 2025 Sarawak-level Gawai Dayak celebration dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here tonight, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
