Four FRU officers remain in ICU after Teluk Intan crash, condition improving, says police chief
KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Four members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) remain in intensive care following a recent road accident, with three being treated at Teluk Intan Hospital and one at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh.
The officers currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Teluk Intan Hospital are Corporal Haslizal Mohd Ali, 44; Sergeant Mazlan Mat, 50; and Corporal Mohd Izwan Ishak, 39. Corporal Syed Isfan Syed Mohammad, 32, is being treated at the ICU in HRPB, Ipoh.
Hilir Perak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bakri Zainal Abidin told Harian Metro that the most recent officer discharged from Teluk Intan Hospital was Sergeant Mohd Parih Ali, 44, at 6.30pm on Tuesday.
'As of this morning (Wednesday), three officers remain in the ICU at Teluk Intan Hospital, and one at HRPB. I pray for their full recovery. Doctors have reported positive developments.
'They are now conscious, stable, and breathing with oxygen support. This was described as a positive sign. Most of their injuries were caused by the impact of the accident.
'Full recovery may take time, but the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters remains committed to ensuring the welfare of the victims' families.
'This is why we have been conducting regular hospital visits to meet with the families, identify their needs, and provide welfare support,' he reportedly said after attending a special assembly at the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters, where he presented 75 certificates of appreciation to those involved in managing the incident.
The first officer to be discharged was Corporal Nizam Tarmizi, 38, on the day of the incident, followed by Lance Corporal Muhammad Aniq Taufiq Rozi, 26, on May 14; Corporal Mohd Harrisul Ikhsan Mohd Mahabudin, 39, on May 16; and Corporal Mohammad Zulnaidi Muhammad Zulkifli, 34, on May 17.
Bakri added that senior police leadership have also made visits to the victims and their families to offer moral support.

Noor Azreyanti said the Irrawaddy dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris), also known locally as 'empesut', is a unique species that is becoming increasingly rare in Southeast Asia, including in Malaysia. She added that the loss of even a single Irrawaddy dolphin has a major impact on the ecosystem, given its critically low population and elusive nature. Meanwhile, Noor Azreyanti said the latest seizure was the sixth involving ray nets in the Kuala Kedah maritime zone so far this year. 'The use of the nets not only affects the population of stingrays, which are benthic predators, but also disrupts the overall balance of the ecosystem if left unchecked,' she said. Perak MB orders full probe after mysterious explosions, tremors rattle Ipoh residents again
IPOH, June 21 — The Perak government has called on the relevant departments to conduct a thorough investigation into the explosions and tremors reported in several areas here last Wednesday. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the incident, including a similar one in October last year, had caused concern and alarm among residents. 'It is time for the relevant departments and agencies to prepare a full report and conduct a study into the cause of the explosions,' he said at a press conference after closing the National Training Week (NTW) 2025 at the Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC) here today. Saarani also advised the public not to spread unverified or false information about the incident. 'The public should remain calm and need not worry, as the situation is under control and no serious incidents have been reported so far,' he said. Explosions and tremors were reportedly heard and felt around Chemor and Chepor here at about 10.30 am on June 18, but the cause remains unknown. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, at a press conference the following day, said the police would hold discussions with the relevant departments and agencies soon to determine the actual cause of the explosions and tremors. Retired factory worker in Penang loses RM733,000 in bogus investment scheme promising 15pc return
GEORGE TOWN, June 21 — A retired factory worker recently lost RM733,300 after falling victim to an online investment scam syndicate. Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Barat Daya district police headquarters received a report from the 66-year-old victim on June 18. He said the victim claimed to have received a text message in early March from a woman who introduced herself as a representative of a reputable investment company. 'He was promised a return of between 10 and 15 per cent on each investment, within just 20 minutes,' he said in a statement today. 'Interested in the offer, the victim was instructed to download an application to register as a member and begin investing. Hamzah said the victim made 25 transactions into three different bank accounts between March 7 and April 24, but realised he had been cheated when he was asked to make an additional payment to withdraw his supposed investment profits. He added that further investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — Bernama
