Mahuchikh, Holloway headline Paris Diamond League
Here, AFP Sport looks at four stand-out disciplines at the eighth meeting of the 15-event Diamond League circuit at the Stade Charlety:
Women's high jump
Mahuchikh has conquered the world of high jumping at the age of 23.
The world and Olympic champion set the current world record of 2.10 metres at last year's Diamond League meet in Paris.
It was a jump that erased the legendary world record of 2.09m set by Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova at the worlds in Rome way back in 1987
"I don't like the world 'pressure'," said the Ukrainian, adding that her coach insisted she focus on herself and jumping technique.
"It's so exciting to jump here again after the world record, I want to do my best and give a memory to spectators on Friday."
Mahuchikh, looking ahead to the worlds, added: "Every Diamond League and every competition now shows what we did, what we should do better, and get in better shape for the season.
"I think something special is coming."
Also vying to top the podium will be the Australian pair of Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers, a two-time world indoor champion who has won twice in Paris (2021, 2023) and beat Mahuchikh in Stockholm last weekend.
Men's 110m hurdles
US star Grant Holloway makes his return to the track after flopping in the opening Diamond League meet in China.
Holloway finished last after leading for much of his race but losing momentum disastrously after the eighth hurdle.
The three-time world champion and Olympic gold medallist trailed across the line in 13.72sec, way behind fellow American Cordell Tinch.
"Everybody wants to win every track meet they go to," Holloway said. "But you've got to be able to give and take.
"The ultimate goal is definitely the world championships in Tokyo."
Back competing, he added, would allow him to "re-evaluate and attack and do the same thing again".
Tinch is absent from the French capital, but Holloway will feel the heat from compatriots Trey Cunningham and Freddie Crittenden, Japan's Rashid Muratake, and the French trio of Wilhem Belocian, Just Kwaou-Mathey and Sasha Zhoya.
Women's 400m
Dominican Republic's Marileidy Paulino tops the field for the women's 400m, and will be up against a strong field including last summer's runner-up, Bahraini Salwa Eid Naser, and Dutch athlete Lieke Klaver.
Paulino, gold medallist at last year's Paris Olympics and the 2023 worlds in Budapest, has been the star of the show for the past two years.
She won the one-lap race in Paris meets in 2023 and 2024. However, it is Eid Naser, world champion in 2019 and victor at Charlety in 2018, who has set the standard this term thanks to a time of 48.67sec in Kingston.
"I believe I can continue to be the star of the show," Paulino said. "I've worked hard to be strong and in track, fans like the show, and between me and Salwa we're capable of putting on a show.
"It's been a packed season, preparing for the worlds, that's the focus."
Men's 3000m steeplechase
Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma lit up the 2023 edition of the Meeting de Paris by smashing the previous world record (7:52.11).
There was disaster at the Paris Olympics, however, after Girma fell heavily in the last lap of the Stade de France track.
"I'm very happy to be able to come back here," said Girma. "Paris is like my home!
"After falling in Paris, the feeling was very bad and my head hurt for a long time. It took some months to return to training.
"I'm happy to be healthy and back competing."
Morocco's Sofiane El Bakkali is the two-time Olympic steeplechase champion.
He will also be at Charlety, but this time around he'll be lining up for the 5,000m, alongside the Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha, who boasts no fewer than 10 Diamond League victories.

Fleetwood, Thomas and Scheffler share PGA Travelers lead
Thomas reeled off five consecutive birdies in firing a six-under par 64 while Fleetwood shot 65 and Scheffler fired a 69 to all stand on nine-under 131 for 36 holes at windy TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Paris Olympic runner-up Fleetwood, ranked 17th, matched his season-low round. He has seven European Tour wins but seeks his first PGA Tour victory. Fleetwood eagled the par-five 13th after reaching the green in two and sinking a putt from just inside 10 feet, then chipped in at the par-four 14th for eagle from the fairway from just inside 90 feet. "Would have been happy walking off with two birdies," Fleetwood said. "But two eagles was a big bonus." A 12-foot birdie putt at the par-three 16th gave him a share of the lead. "It happened really quick. You don't expect two eagles in three holes," he said. "You don't really look for those things to happen. "I played really well. Felt like I did a great job of scrapping on the front nine then played well on the back nine." Fifth-ranked Thomas, a two-time major winner, opened the back nine with a bogey then birdied the next five holes. The last two in the run, at the 14th and 15th, were from just beyond 26 feet each. "I was very patient. I hit a lot of really good iron shots. I felt like I was in good control," Thomas said. "I didn't feel like I drove it very well. I kept it in play and kept it in front of me, which is a big part of it, but I just kept it out of trouble. Finally made some putts on that back nine. It was nice." Scheffler, who won his third major title at last month's PGA Championship, stumbled back with a double bogey at 17, plunking his second shot into the water. "I played really nice," Scheffler said. "Had a weird lie on the second shot and kind of chunked it. After that I hit each shot the way I wanted, just didn't get the results from it. "Outside of that, I felt like I played pretty well. It was very challenging out there with the wind gusts." Scheffler made a bogey at the par-five sixth after missing the green with his approach but responded with birdies at the seventh on a putt from just inside seven feet and the ninth from just inside 10 feet. At the par-five 13th, Scheffler reached the green in two and two-putted for birdie from 24 feet to grab the solo lead, then sank a birdie putt from just inside 17 feet. Day just one shot back Australian Jason Day, the 2015 PGA Championship winner, made three birdies in a row on holes 12-14 -- all on putts between four and eight feet -- and closed with a 21-foot birdie putt to shoot 66 and take fourth on 132. "There's 40-mph gusts out there," Day said. "You had to hit on the right wind." Americans Denny McCarthy and Austin Eckroat shared fifth on 133. World number two Rory McIlroy made bogeys on three of the first four holes then made birdies on three of the first six on the back nine as he battled to a 71 to stand on 135. "I hit some good shots and held it together when it could have got away from me early in the round," McIlroy said. "I felt like I battled back pretty well. Defending champions Toulouse hold off Bayonne to reach Top 14 final
Toulouse scored two tries through half-backs Romain Ntamack and Paul Graou, while full-back Thomas Ramos kicked 22 points. But Ugo Mola's side were pushed hard in the sweltering Lyon heat, failing to erase the doubts of their 35-18 defeat in the Champions Cup semi-finals against Bordeaux-Begles in early May. Bordeaux-Begles face Toulon in Saturday's second semi-final. Bayonne, playing their first semi-final since 1983, were only trailing 20-15 at halftime but buckled in the second half. "In this type of match, Toulouse often comes out on top because they have the experience," said Bayonne coach Gregory Patat. "They controlled the game at their own pace, with their own know-how. "We should have scored a few more to get back into the game, to see where they (Toulouse) really stand." A succession of injuries in the last few months to Antoine Dupont, Peato Mauvaka, Blair Kinghorn, who returned on Friday night, and Ange Capuozzo, had raised Toulouse concerns but they came through to stamp their ticket for next week's final at the Stade de France. Kevin Durant buys minority stake in PSG, eyes global expansion with Qatari owners
NBA star Kevin Durant has purchased a minority stake in Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain, the French soccer club said Friday, June 20. Qatar Sports Investments, PSG's majority shareholder, signed an investment and strategic partnership agreement with Durant, the club said in a statement. Financial terms were not disclosed. The announcement comes amid talks between the NBA, FIBA and other entities about the potential of adding a new league in Europe. Durant will provide expertise on the PSG's multi-port strategy, including potential expansion into basketball, the club said. "Under the terms of the partnership, Durant – via his media and investment company Boardroom, co-founded with long-time business partner Rich Kleiman – will acquire a direct minority stake in the club," PSG's statement said.
