Sky Sports host apologises to Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk during trophy party
Liverpool were finally awarded the Premier League trophy, almost a month after becoming champions, and celebrated their league win at Anfield in jubilant scenes on Sunday
Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates apologised to Liverpool title-winners Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk on Sunday afternoon following the Reds' draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield. Cates was left offering her regrets for interupting the pair's opportunity to celebrate in front of fans after finally receiving the Premier League trophy on the final day of the season.
Arne Slot's side could not sign off with a victory but have already been champions for a month after securing the title with a win over Tottenham in April. That did not stop jubilant celebrations following the full-time whistle against the Eagles however.
Van Dijk and Salah were at the heart of marking the club's achievement but were eventually dragged away to conduct broadcasting duties. Liverpool captain Van Dijk had held the trophy aloft to kickstart the party inside Anfield and sang You Never Walk Alone with supporters.
When Cates was eventually able to grab both to conduct an interview, she began by saying: "Thank you so much for coming over to talk with us, apologies for dragging you away from these incredible scenes. Virgil thank you so much, congratulations."
Reflecting on the moment, Salah explained the joy he was experiencing and the difference in comparison to Liverpool's previous Premier League win. "It's incredible, last time we didn't have a chance to do it in front of the Kop [due to Covid restrictions], today we had a chance and it is an incredible feeling to win the Premier League for this club," the Egyptian said.
"I don't think so (heard Anfield so loud), I don't think so, it's a really great feeling to win the second one with the fans, I am really happy."
Van Dijk added: "It's incredible. The moment was against Spurs. It felt like four months ago, but I am very emotional. It's a special day for my wife, for my kids, it's incredible to be champions. No one can take this away.
"I love this club, I love the fans, I love everything it stands for. I am really happy and we will keep going."
A tearful Trent Alexander-Arnold meanwhile declared his Liverpool finale "the best day of his life". The Reds ace is to depart with the end of his contract.
"I didn't know what to expect at Anfield after what happened a few weeks ago. To get the reception that I got means more than anything to me," he said.
"I hope that one day the fans of this club will be able to recognise the hard work and everything I've done for this team. There wasn't a second where I didn't think about this team. I've loved every single minute of it. It goes down as the best day of my life for me."

Revealed: 'Why Ruud van Nistelrooy is STILL at Leicester' despite club deciding to sack him after hapless relegation campaign
Leicester City 's decision to keep Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge for now, despite their relegation from the Premier League, has finally been explained. The Dutchman oversaw a disastrous run of results having replaced Steve Cooper last November, meaning the Foxes will play in the Championship next season. Last month, Mailsport the former Manchester United striker will depart after less than a year in charge of the club. However, weeks after Leicester's final game of the season, van Nistelrooy's exit has still not officially been confirmed. According to The Sun, the 48-year-old is still in the job because the club is waiting to enter its next financial accounting period — a move that would reduce the cost of terminating his contract. Speaking last month, Van Nistelrooy was hopeful of resolving his future at the club as soon as possible. He said: '(I am) still hoping to find out. The quicker the better, in the best interest of the club. We're all hoping to find out soon. 'There's 70 people working at the training ground who want to evaluate the season (and start) looking forward to the next.' Van Nistelrooy's disastrous spell in charge saw Leicester suffer 17 defeats in 19 matches. The Foxes endured a nightmare run of form at home, going nine consecutive Premier League games without scoring a single goal — and losing every one of them. Their relegation from the top flight was officially confirmed on April 20, capping off a calamitous campaign under the former striker. With less than seven weeks remaining until the start of the new Championship season, Sean Dyche is said to be among candidates to replace Van Nistelrooy at the King Power. The 53-year-old has been out of working since being sacked as Everton manager in January following a poor run iof results.

For sure – Marcus Rashford would relish playing with Lamine Yamal at Barcelona
Macus Rashford has revealed he would like to play alongside teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal at Barcelona. Rashford, 27, signed a five-year contract with Manchester United in 2023, but spent the second half of the recently concluded Premier League campaign on loan at Aston Villa and his future under Ruben Amorim – who had left him out of several squads – remains uncertain. The forward opened up about his ambitions in an interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz which was shared by BBC Sport. Asked if he would like to be team-mates with Barca's 17-year-old scoring sensation Yamal, Rashford said: 'Yes, for sure. Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully… we'll see.' Barcelona sporting director Deco in May told Catalan radio station RAC1 that the club 'like' Rashford. Rashford added: 'It's difficult to put into words what (Yamal) is doing because he's not supposed to be doing that at 16 or 17. I don't think we've seen that before.'
