New Delhi: In a major development, the Bharat Pensioners Samaj (BPS) has written to the Finance Minister and the Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training, calling for quick action on the 8th Central Pay Commission. The Bharat Pensioners Samaj (BPS) one of the oldest and largest federations representing pensioners and senior citizens. In the letter, the federation has appealed for early finalization of the Terms of Reference and prompt appointment of the chairman and members of the 8th CPC.
Expressing concerns, the federation has said that the delay in fixing the ToR and the appointment of the chairman and members of the 8th CPC is creating an atmosphere of anxiety and uncertainty among the central government employees and pensioners.
The letter written by the BPS reads, '…the lack of further progress — notably the non-finalization of the Terms of Reference and the absence of announcements regarding the Chairman and Members of the Commission- has led to growing unease.'
'The prolonged delay is fuelling rumours, speculations, and misunderstandings, causing anxiety and uncertainty among government pensioners. Unverified information circulating on various media and social platforms is creating confusion and adversely affecting morale.'
The federation said, 'Given the criticality of the situation, we humbly request your good offices to kindly expedite the necessary steps.' These steps are as follows: Early finalization of the Terms of Reference (ToR),
Prompt appointment of the Chairman and Members of the 8th CPC, and
Ensuring representation of pensioners in the Commission.
In the letter penned by Secretary General of BPS SC Maheshwari, the federation said that 'Clear and timely communication will not only dispel rumors and reassure stakeholders but will also facilitate the smooth and effective functioning of the Commission to deliver its recommendations on schedule.' Here are some of the important details: More than 1.2 crore central government employees and pensioners are eagerly awaiting the formation of the 8th Pay Commission
Despite the government's approval on January 16, 2025, the Pay Commission has not been formally constituted.
However, according to the reports, the Modi government is likely to form the panel soon.
The ToR and the appointment of the chairman and other important members have also not yet been completed.
The government on January 16 announced the approval of the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
The Pay Commission is scheduled to be implemented from January 1, 2026.
A look at the process of the 7th commission revealed that it took an average of 2 to 2.5 years to prepare the report and implement it.
Given the current circumstances, if the commission is constituted in late 2025 or early 2026, the report will be completed by 2027 or 2028.

Op Sindhu: 90 stranded Indians to arrive in Prayagraj today

Prayagraj: Around 90 people from Sangam City and nearby areas, including 20 members of a Dariyabad-based family, are expected to arrive in Prayagraj on Monday after being safely evacuated from Iran under Operation Sindhu. The group was previously stranded due to airspace restrictions. So far, over 1,400 Indian nationals have returned home from Iran under Operation Sindhu, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday. The first batch of 110 Indian nationals evacuated from Iran arrived in India on Thursday, with many evacuees sharing first-hand accounts of the frightening situation they witnessed before being moved to safer locations. India had announced the launch of Operation Sindhu on Wednesday to bring back its nationals from Iran and Israel in view of the precarious security situation arising out of Iran-Israel hostilities. Breathing a sigh of relief, the Dariyabad family — whose 20 members were stranded in various cities across Iran for over 10 days — expressed its gratitude and shared that the Indian embassy officials have made comprehensive arrangements for their safe return. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Eat 1 Teaspoon Every Night, See What Happens A Week Later! After speaking with his family on Sunday, Naqvi confirmed that the Indian government and embassy officials have made arrangements for their safe return. Sameer said, "About 90 people from the city and adjoining regions, who were trapped in Iran for the past 10 days, are likely to reach New Delhi late Sundayor Monday morning, and they would then reach Prayagraj." Sameer expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Modi government for its tireless efforts to evacuate Indian citizens from war-torn Iran amid escalating tensions with Israel. He specifically thanked the embassy officials for their exceptional care and support. A 20-member Dariyabad-based family, including elderly individuals and two children, embarked on a pilgrimage to Iran on May 20. Their planned return date was June 13. However, due to the sudden escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran, their travel plans were severely disrupted. "All the families, whose members were stranded in Iran on their pilgrimage, are thankful to the Modi govt and embassy officials for taking better care of them in this time of crisis," said another family member, adding, "Embassy officials are constantly connecting with family members until their safe return is ensured." In a special gesture on June 20, Iran has lifted airspace restrictions for three charter flights to evacuate about 1,000 Indian nationals, mostly students, from the Iranian city of Mashad. Mohammad Javad Hosseini, the deputy chief of mission at the Iranian embassy, said more evacuation flights could be operated in the coming days to bring back Indians if required.

‘No Airspace Used': India Hits Back At Rumours Linking It To US Strikes On Iran

Israel-Iran Conflict: India has debunked the claims that its airspace was utilised during the US' Operation 'Midnight Hammer', which targeted key Iranian nuclear facilities, sparking heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. Amid escalating regional conflict, India has maintained its territorial integrity, refuting any claims of involvement or facilitation in the operation. As tension simmers across West Asia, on June 22, the Government of India stepped in and doused the misinformation. Viral posts on social media claimed that US bombers used Indian airspace to reach Iranian targets. The claim quickly snowballed, dragging India into the storm. But within hours, the country's official fact-checking wing, the Press Information Bureau (PIB), issued a denial. In a post on the social media platform X, PIB Fact Check informed that Indian Airspace was not used by the US during the Operation to strike Iran's nuclear sites. The clarification did not only aim to clear confusion. It was also a signal that India does not want to be perceived as playing any role, direct or indirect, in the spiraling conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Several social media accounts have claimed that Indian Airspace was used by the United States to launch aircrafts against Iran during Operation #MidnightHammer #PIBFactCheck ❌ This claim is FAKE ❌Indian Airspace was NOT used by the United States during Operation… — PIB Fact Check (@PIBFactCheck) June 22, 2025 Why Rumour Caught Fire? In the wee hours on June 22, American stealth bombers targeted three nuclear installations deep inside Iran. That attack was quickly dubbed 'Operation Midnight Hammer' and has sharply raised the temperature in an already volatile region. With global air routes under scrutiny and military flight paths being tracked by amateur sleuths, speculation began to swirl. Some claimed that the most logical route for US aircraft involved passing over Indian skies. But aviation experts pointed out early on that long-range bombers like the B-2 Spirit have enough fuel and support infrastructure to operate from bases like Diego Garcia or American carriers in the Arabian Sea, without needing Indian airspace at all. Israel-Iran Conflict The conflict between Israel and Iran began when Jerusalem launched 'Operation Rising Lion' on June 13, striking Iranian military and nuclear sites. In response, Tehran also launched massive drone and missile attacks on the Israeli region. PM Modi's Call With Iranian Prez The Ministry of External Affairs, in a release, informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, on Sunday following the American airstrikes. Iranian President briefed PM Modi "in detail and shared his perspective on the current situation in the region", especially the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister expressed India's deep concern at the recent escalations and conveyed that New Delhi is on the side of 'peace and humanity.' PM Modi emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy as the way forward. The Politics Of Perception In the age of satellite trackers, open-source intel, and viral disinformation, perception can become reality within minutes. A misleading tweet or doctored flight map can be enough to cause ripples on the world stage. India's public denial is, therefore, more than a bureaucratic formality. It is a firm effort to stay out of the war narrative building around Israel, the United States, and Iran. And it reflects how quickly digital misinformation can threaten to redraw geopolitical lines. As the Middle East inches toward deeper instability, India intends to stay out of the line of fire.

"Nice thought": BJP's Shahnawaz Hussain on PM Modi's call for "immediate de-escalation"

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi tele-conversation with President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian in which he called for 'immediate de-escalation', BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said that it is a 'nice thought' and wished for peace across the globe. Speaking with ANI, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said, 'This is a nice thought (PM Modi's message to Iran President). Let's wish for peace across the globe, including in Iran. There is no way out of war. We are the country of Buddha, and we always give this message.' PM Modi spoke with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing deep concern at the recent escalations and called for 'immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy' after the US bombed Iran's nuclear facilities. In a post on X, PM Modi said, 'Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations,' PM Modi stated. He emphasised the need for a peaceful resolution and added, 'Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.' US, on early Sunday, carried out 'massive precision' strikes on Iran's three nuclear sites -Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow- and warned of further retaliation if peace is not achieved. Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that an emergency meeting would take place on Monday in light of the developments taking place in West Asia. The IAEA confirmed that there has been no reported increase in off-site radiation levels following the recent strikes on three key nuclear sites in Iran, including the underground enrichment facility at Fordow. 'Following attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran -- including Fordow -- the IAEA can confirm that no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported as of this time. IAEA will provide further assessments on the situation in Iran as more information becomes available,' the agency said in a statement. Iran condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear program. A statement issued by Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) confirmed that early on Sunday morning, Iran's nuclear sites were 'subjected to savage aggression--an act in violation of international laws, particularly the NPT.' 'This action, which violates international regulations, unfortunately took place under the indifference--and even complicity--of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),' it said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US military action under the leadership of Trump, stating that Trump's bold decision to target Iranian nuclear facilities will change history. Meanwhile, India continues its evacuation efforts for Indian nationals in Iran, with multiple flights planned to bring back Indians from the conflict-hit region. (ANI)
