Baghdad –INA
Oil Ministry announced on Sunday plans to increase oil production to more than 6 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2029, while confirming an agreement with BP to develop four oil fields in Kirkuk.
Deputy Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the ministry aims to expand oil and gas production capacities under a clear five-year plan, targeting an output exceeding 6 million bpd between 2028 and 2029.
'The ministry is working to achieve this goal through projects across all provinces, leveraging exploration activities by the Oil Exploration Company, as well as drilling and production operations under the six licensing rounds,' he said.
Khudair highlighted the Integrated South Gas Development Project at the Artawi field as one of the key ongoing extraction projects. He also noted an agreement to develop four major oil fields in Kirkuk, with a final contract expected to be signed with BP in the coming days.
He added that national extraction companies now handle 70% of operational activities.

About 5,000 foreign oil workers exit Iraq amid Iran–Israel conflict
Shafaq News/ Thousands of foreign workers employed by international oil companies in Iraq's Basra province have left the country due to escalating regional tensions following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, a senior oil official told Shafaq News on Sunday. According to the source, a total of 4,860 foreign employees have departed oil sites in southern Iraq since the strikes—part of a wider conflict triggered by Israel's military campaign and Washington's direct involvement. 'Approximately 1,700 workers from British Petroleum (BP), 1,000 from France's TotalEnergies, and 700 from the US-based Schlumberger have exited their sites,' the official said. In addition, 560 personnel from Italy's Eni, 500 from Kuwait Energy, and 400 from ExxonMobil have also left their posts in Basra. The source attributed the departures to security concerns stemming from the conflict between Iran and Israel, as well as the heightened risks following the US strikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. While Iraq has not been directly targeted, fears are mounting that its strategic energy sector could become collateral in the broader regional fallout. The mass withdrawal of foreign technical staff raises concerns about operational continuity in one of the world's most oil-rich provinces. The Ministry of Oil has not yet issued an official statement on the departures.

Iraq to set up new cement plants producing 52 million tons annually
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals revealed on Tuesday that it is developing a plan to set up new cement factories with a production capacity of 52 million tons annually. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, Doha Al-Jabouri, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Iraq's cement factories, both associated with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and the private sector, are currently producing 32 million tons annually. The Iraqi government has developed a strategy to enhance cement production capacity in response to growing demand and ongoing construction projects in Iraq, as well as to fulfill current and future demands, according to Al-Jabouri. The Iraqi official indicated that the ministry's plan also offers opportunities to develop integrated cement factories with a production capacity of 52 million tons per year. The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, launched in April six large-scale cement factories worth $1.171 billion in the southern Iraqi province of Muthanna. According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Al-Sudani initiated commercial operations at Najmat Al-Samawa Cement Plant 2, which produces 6,000 tons per day. Al-Sudani launched construction works for the Al-Arabi Cement Plant, the Khairat Al-Muthanna Cement Plant, and the Al-Ittihad Cement Plant, each with a capacity of 6,000 tons per day. Additionally, Al-Sudani launched the construction works for the Al-Samawa Cement Plant with an output capacity of 6,600 tons per day and a 1,200-tons-per-day caustic soda project. Given the numerous development projects requiring various types of construction materials, Al-Sudani emphasized that the primary goal of the current initiatives is to meet the needs of the local market and eliminate imports.
