
Two arrested in Oman on drug-related charges
Muscat: Anti-Narcotics Authorities of Royal Oman Police managed to arrest two individuals in drug-related cases in Sultanate of Oman.
ROP said: 'In a coordinated effort to combat drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, led by the South Al Batinah Police Command, has successfully arrested a Pakistani national in the Wilayat of Barka.'
'The suspect was apprehended following a meticulous tracking operation and was found in possession of a quantity of marijuana intended for sale and personal use,' ROP added.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, under the Dhofar Police Command, arrested an Omani citizen for drug possession. Authorities are continuing legal actions in response to the case.
These operations reaffirm Oman's commitment to cracking down on illegal drug activities and ensuring public safety through rigorous enforcement measures.

Social development ministry launches ‘Ayadi' volunteer work platform
Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development yesterday launched the 'Ayadi' or Hands platform for volunteer work, aimed at promoting a culture of volunteering and managing it with high professionalism and efficiency by providing a supportive digital environment. The launch ceremony witnessed the introduction of the first three initiatives on the platform. Sohar Port and Freezone announced the launch of the 'Our Sea, Our Responsibility' initiative, which aims to enhance community responsibility and environmental awareness to preserve coastal ecosystems and support marine resource sustainability. The initiative targets around 200 volunteers. The Oman Design Association introduced the 'Oman Design Week' initiative to engage Omani youth in organizing an annual event celebrating design and promoting Oman's cultural identity, with the participation of about 10 volunteers. Meanwhile, Salalah Volunteer Team's initiative, 'Hands of Good,' focuses on environmental and community efforts in the rugged mountainous areas of Dhofar. It aims to open mountain roads and trails, clean water channels, and natural springs, improving the lives of local residents and their living environment.

Oman Customs foils cigarette smuggling attempt
Muscat: Oman Customs has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle restricted quantities of cigarettes and e-shisha into the Sultanate of Oman by two expatriates. Oman Customs stated: "Hafeet Customs thwarted an attempt by two Indian nationals to smuggle restricted quantities of cigarettes and e-shisha, in addition to more than 600 packs of tobacco derivatives, which were expertly hidden in the compartments of their vehicle. Legal proceedings are underway against them."

2025 Summer Programme for Gifted Students launched in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate
Nizwa: The activities of the 2025 Summer Programme for Gifted Students in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate began on Tuesday. The programme, organised by the Directorate General of Education in the governorate, targets more than 80 male and female students from various wilayats of the governorate as part of the national "Tharwa" programme for nurturing gifted students.
