Oman refutes reports of the sale of shares in natural gas fields
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals said it continues to implement its long-term strategy based on developing national assets and maximizing their returns to serve the country's economic and development goals.
Dr. Saleh bin Ali al Anbouri, director general of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, said that the Ministry continues to monitor the implementation of major development projects in gas fields in line with global best practices in terms of sustainability and financing.
This is based on a solid financial base and well-thought-out investment plans that keep pace with the aspirations of the next phase, without the need to divest from natural gas-producing assets.
The Director General also noted the inaccuracy of rumors circulating about the sale of shares in natural gas fields.
He noted that the Ministry is keen to enhance operational efficiency and attract global technical and investment expertise through well-thought-out partnerships that focus on knowledge transfer and enhancing added value within the Sultanate of Oman, without compromising ownership or sovereignty of strategic national assets.
The Ministry affirms its full commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability, and continues to coordinate with all local and international partners to serve the interests of the Sultanate of Oman and enhance its position as a trusted regional hub in the energy sector.

Mining concession awarded for RO 200m sea salt production project
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals signed on Sunday, June 22, 2025, a mining concession agreement with Integrated Global Engineering Company to develop natural salt production in Concession Area I-51, located in Al Wusta Governorate. The concession covers a total area of 15 square kilometres. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman by Eng Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, while Shaikh Ali bin Salim al Junaibi, Chairman of Integrated Global Engineering Company, signed on behalf of the company. The agreement aims to expand the production capacity of the existing salt plant and establish additional facilities to increase the annual output of natural salt to 1.2 million tonnes. The salt will be extracted through the construction of seawater storage ponds, followed by natural evaporation using wind and solar heat. The salt will then be dried, refined, and packaged. The estimated investment value of the project is RO 200 million. Al Aufi emphasised that the project represents a strategic step forward in advancing economic diversification in the Sultanate. He noted that the project is expected to create significant employment opportunities for Omani citizens. The primary objective is to boost the production of natural salt and develop its industrial derivatives for use in various projects aligned with sustainable development goals. The minister also highlighted that this is the third sea salt production project signed in Oman, as part of the Ministry's broader strategy to promote local industries, maximise the utilisation of natural resources, and reduce dependence on imported products. Shaikh Ali bin Salim al Junaibi, Chairman of Integrated Global Engineering Company, stated that obtaining Concession Area I-51 in Al Wusta will help realise the company's vision of increasing production capacity to one million tonnes annually. He added that the project is expected to meet domestic market demand as well as the needs of downstream industries currently under development, in line with the economic goals of Oman Vision 2040. The company also plans to produce multiple derivatives of salt required by both local and global markets, particularly for food processing, animal feed, and pharmaceutical industries. Shaikh Al Junaibi further affirmed that the agreement reinforces the government's strategy to localise industries, make full use of natural resources, and reduce reliance on imports—contributing to the enhancement of the national economy and generating a range of job opportunities for Omani talent, including part-time work for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Boosting Omanisation in energy and minerals sectors discussed
Muscat: As part of the Shura Council's commitment to monitoring employment and Omanisation initiatives and enhancing the role of national talent in key sectors, the Youth and Human Resources Committee hosted Mohsen Hamad Al-Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, along with a number of ministry officials. The meeting focused on the efforts being made to empower and develop the national workforce within the energy and minerals sectors. The session, held under the chairmanship of Younis Ali Al-Mandhari, Head of the Youth and Human Resources Committee, and attended by members of the Committee, began with a comprehensive presentation by the Undersecretary. He highlighted the Ministry's role in supporting and developing employment policies, underlining the need to strengthen ties between the Ministry, employment institutions, the labour market, and educational institutions. He also outlined the key challenges facing institutions and companies operating in the petroleum sector and called for innovative solutions to boost employment and Omanisation in this strategic sector. He affirmed that the Ministry remains committed to empowering national talent and integrating them into organisations within the oil and energy sectors. Following the opening remarks, the Committee members were briefed through a presentation by a Ministry expert on ongoing efforts to enhance Omanisation rates in operating companies across the oil and gas sector, as well as in contracting and service companies. The presentation also featured an overview of the 'Energy Sector Human Resources Forum,' which serves as an important platform for exchanging ideas and experiences on strengthening national competencies. Forum highlights integration between academic, industrial sectors
More Omani students will benefit from the Siraj Foundation, an endowment foundation supporting education, during the 2025-2026 period, turning their dreams into reality, as announced by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. This announcement was made at the First Annual Forum to Enhance Integration between the Academic and Industrial Sectors, held under the auspices of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, at the Ministry's General Diwan office on Wednesday. During the forum, 18 agreements were signed to promote community engagement in enhancing education, with the primary goal of strengthening partnerships between higher education institutions and society. These agreements aim to cultivate a culture of endowment in support of education, focusing on raising awareness among students, teaching staff and administrative departments, as well as encouraging participation in educational institution events and activities. The forum also featured visual presentations from private higher education institutions, public and private sector organisations; and the Siraj Education Endowment Foundation. The Ministry also presented the Ejaad platform, emphasising cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors. Engineer Mahmoud bin Khalfan al Hadidi, CEO of the Siraj Foundation, expressed pride in expanding the network of partnerships with educational institutions to enhance social solidarity and support students in need. The Foundation is actively implementing initiatives and programmes to support education in Oman, including the "University Student Sponsorship" initiative and the "Siraj Advantages" electronic platform, which facilitate donations and support for students pursuing higher education. The First Annual Forum to Enhance Integration between the Academic and Industrial Sectors brought together institutions from both sectors and was attended by CEOs of public and private sector organisations, as well as presidents and deans of private higher education institutions. In his opening speech, Yahya bin Salam al Mandhari, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, emphasised the importance of aligning higher education with the needs of the labour market to contribute to sustainable development, in line with Oman Vision 2040. The forum aimed to exchange experiences in areas such as scientific research, training for graduate students and financing projects in private higher education institutions, highlighting the significance of developing a flexible educational system to meet the demands of the changing times and supply the labour market with skilled national talents.
